Absolutely loving this little slice of heaven in the heart of downtown Morro Bay. Very friendly staff and comfy cozy seating for everyone. We recently attending a showing of 300 Waves, a fun surfing film with lots of locals shown in and out of the waves, and filmed right there in Morro Bay, The Rock to the pier, and also some Hawaii footage. Looking forward to some of the upcoming fund raising movie showings. It's nice to see this venue supporting local schools and organizations. Snack bar is ideal. My first visit for a movie since the change of ownership. What's new you ask...well thats a good question and um I'm still lookin'. The main difference besides the "new" featured movie are classic movies that show on Monday. (That was the closed day the old theatre). This location has also buddied up with the Palm in SLO to share films. Price to get into the movies still a bargain at ten bucks. Yea they're going to make it up on popcorn and sodas but if you want them to stay around ya need to ante up. We have enjoyed Bay Theater since the 50's. It has kept it's old town feel over the years and through various owners. I prefer it to the big theater complexes and avoid San Luis Obispo parking. Fair Oaks is my next pick. I DO miss the Obispo Theater though. Such a shame it burned down. AND DO use the concession stand. Theaters do NOT make a profit on movies AT ALL. Their income comes from selling popcorn, candy, and drinks. read more

I'd heard that the owners were selling the theater but they're back open again with a current film showing. No mention in their webpage regarding COVID precautions or the same yet. Truly hope that they're able to make a good of it again in these difficult times. read more

Going to give it r just for the classic and cozy theater it is. This is a old school single screen movie theater that doesn't have the updates seat, screen, or sound system but has thing no modern theater could ever have. The throw back small town, locals all around, make a day of it atmosphere that you can't get anywhere else. To watch a movie with your kids at a classic old theater is an amazing thing and even if you are on vacation this will just be the cheery on top of a great trip to the coast. read more

So here's the lowdown: - It's the only theater in Morro. - Since it's practically dead this time of year, parking is certainly not an issue. - Only ONE movie feature shown twice a day. Love love love this retro theater.! It was built during World War II to accommodate the war effort, and the North Coast area of San Luis. The new owners thoughtfully restored it to retro Seventies style, n ice and clean with clean bathroom. Best place for popcorn, and real butter. Next best thing to your own living room. Gets crowded from all the tourists in town, so show up on time to beat the line. read more

Big bonus if you are in Morro Bay: a nice theatre to visit. This "old style" theatre from the days when there was a single theatre with a huge auditorium for viewers. The seats are comfortable, the screen is large and the sound is tops. The admission is about $8 - which is chump change if you live in any of the big cities and buy a movie. The theatre appears to be independently owned and run by an individual who greeted us with the sincerity one only sees in a small town where everyone is naturally polite and respectful. There was a pack of old people behind us who had buckets of popcorn and enjoyed talking and eating. I had the sense that someone was building a nest behind me. Eating and talking was the apparent reason they came to the theatre. Choose your seat wisely. Next time, I'm moving if anyone nears me has food. read more

I've lived in MB almost 2.5yrs and this was my first experience at Bay Theatre. I was pleasantly surprised!!!!! The theatre is absolutely beautiful! Staff is friendly and inviting. Plenty of comfy seating too! Tickets are $8 per person and concession items are priced pretty good. I wasn't too fond of the popcorn as it was a bit rubbery for my liking. Next time I will opt for a Sprite and Reese's Pieces :) I can't wait to go back! I caught Sully with Tom Hanks! Great flick! Surround sound is great quality too! read more

We've been going to this small local theater for years now. It seems like almost every time we're in Morro Bay visiting family we end up catching whatever movie is playing on this single screen. Unless it's prime tourism season for this small town, you can usually show up mere minutes before the lights go down without a problem! For a small town theatre, it is surprising how incredibly nice this place is. There's only one screen, showing only one movie twice a day though, so you're probably still going to need to drive elsewhere to see multiple new movies a month. But hey, if they're showing something you wanna watch, I highly recommend you go see it here for $7 instead of driving to the overpriced $9.50+ SLO theatres with their funky gym sock smells and sticky floors (I'm looking at you, Downtown Theatre!). An added bonus: it will always be quiet during the movie, AKA no screaming kids or obnoxious teenagers, because 3/4ths of the people there with you are going to be over the age of 50, hah. :) Their popcorn is definitely good, especially so with butter. A medium ran me $4.50. You can definitely tell they've remodeled the inside recently as everything looks almost new. The seats are comfy and they have movable arm rests! I love you, Bay Theatre, just for that fact alone. P.S. When the movie is done playing, they sell the posters displayed throughout the box office for $10. Just let them know you are interested and they'll give you a call when its ready to be picked up. read more

Love the home town feel of my local theatre. Good sound very friendly people and cool old style wooden beam ceilings. Major openings they even printed what I like to call "collector tickets". Rogue One opening night only had about 1/2 theatre full so we all got to stretch out and enjoy even more. I love the atmosphere and vibe of an old school theatre. read more

And, the star gets taken away again!! Their popcorn is back to being stale!! They pop it while you watch, so I believe they either aren't storing it properly, overpurchase and so it gets stale, or they are buying stale popcorn kernels!! Also, their butter still makes the popcorn soggy, probably too much water in the butter rather than oil. I smuggled in some of my own melted butter and it didn't get soggy, so I know it is their butter. What they serve is stale soggy popcorn. I will pass on the popcorn (or smuggle my own stove-popped in) the next time I see a movie here. read more

This is my favorite theater by a mile. The seats are incredibly comfortable. Though it wasn't stadium seating, there is no problem seeing the screen. The theater and bathrooms are clean. The popcorn WITH REAL BUTTER is beyond my linguistic capabilities to describe. Even the architecture of the place is fantastic. I saw Man of Steel there and in spite of hating the movie, I have never enjoyed going to the movies more. It's hard for me to peel myself away from the beach when I'm near it, but I'm glad I did in this case, and I will be doing the same when I visit Morro Bay in the future. read more

This theater is way bigger than you'd expect for a small town. The theater seats well over 300. Recently remodeled with high-back seats and movable arm rests. $8 for any/all movies. The folks working the night we were there were very pleasant. Very clean...feet didn't stick to the floor. Theater only has one screen and they show new releases. We watched Les Mis on the second weekend it showed. We arrived approximately 20 minutes before showtime and got a great seat...no problem. But the place was packed by showtime, so I suggest you come early. Remember, this is the only theater in town and on the weekends and holidays there are tourists looking for something to do. Usually just two showings a day, late afternoon and one evening. Sometimes the showtimes listed online are different than the actual times advertised at the theater. Great little local theater. The staff are always friendly and smiling. The $8 ticket price is so cheap these days, even if it's a release that is a week or two old. The portions of the food are good and reasonably priced. We go here whenever they are playing a film we are interested in because it's rarely crowded and it's inexpensive. This is the only theatre that feeds to Morro Bay and Cayucos. Growing up in Cayucos, I remember it being a HUGE deal to head to the theatre from our ranch house - it was a HUGE deal to actually go see a movie in the near-by town. Since then it has received an awesome face-lift as well as much needed cosmetic surgery eternally. From new seats to new carpeting to new paint to a new screen and cleaner bathrooms this theatre is now seeing grander days!! Tickets continue to be an amazing low price that an entire family can afford. To this day, though, whenever we do go out as a fam to hit a flick when we're all home, I still need the 20 minutes to decide if I want the gummy bears or juju fruits.... ohhh the decisions. read more

Loveable little cinema locates in morro bay! Only plays one movie at a time, with two shows at 1600 and 1900 daily. At first I was a bit sceptical about this place, the ceiling looks like something fit more for a barn.. But both the audio and video is excellent and well fit for a "larger" cinema anywhere! Plus it's really cheap compared to other places.. 8 dollars for a ticket and 3 dollars for popcorn? Great value for your money right here.. All in all, I'd say if you're looking for something to do in the evening, check out this place! Why only four stars? Well the lack of multiple movies is something you can't ignore obviously. This was such a fun experience to go here while on vacation. We come to Morro Bay a lot, and have always seen the theater. Avengers Infinity War came out this weekend, and where anywhere else tickets have been sold out for weeks, we walked up 10 minutes before showtime to a theater with a ton of seats left. Prices are awesome (8 bucks can't buy you a movie in most big theaters anymore), concession prices awesome, and the theater seats were so comfy! Plus it was just a gorgeous old building to be in. Wow! I love this theater! I just moved here from San Diego, and my father flew in from Seattle to help me move to Morro Bay. We decided to go see 'A wrinkle in time' as a father- daughter treat after the stress of moving, and I was very impressed with his theater. Very comfy slightly reclining seats, very comfy dark blue velour Upholstery, and a very classy and attractive theater! And the sound and picture were great as well. I am so delighted to find a cool, quality, affordable, old school theater in my new town. I will definitely be back! read more
