It's 4 kms or 2.5 miles, a loop trail, and has elevation gains of 93m or 315 feet. The trailhead located off the Bedford Highway on Kent Avenue (across from the Rotunda and has parking lot has space for ~20 vehicles In order to get to the ravine trail, you will need to follow this path from the parking lot: Rockingham Loop (Blue), Governors Loop (Red) and the Ravine Trail (Orange). These trails will take you to the bottom of the ravine. It's here the trail ends, but connects with other trails. We recommend making a right at the bottom. It will allow you to follow a beautiful stream - which is perhaps the most beautiful area of the park. Allow yourself about 2 hours to complete this loop. It's located 40-45 minutes outside of Halifax. This is a tent, trailer and RV friendly location (although I'm not sure they have any pull through sites). There are 95 spots available (combined). Open May 18 - Oct 8 Wifi is available at the main entrance and surroundings areas. Will not reach to most of the park. This park has some amazing spots. None are right on the water, but a lot of them have some wonderful ocean views! There are flush toilets and free hot showers in the main bathhouse near the entrance. Vault toilets are located throughout the remainder of the park. You can bring one vehicle to your campsite. You must pay for any additional vehicles you bring with you to your site. You can leave any spare vehicle at the main entrance for free. There are many walking trails in and around this campground. The town of Chester is a 5 minute drive away where you can get supplies. You can buy fire wood onsite. Thanks for reading. Be sure to give me a thumbs up if this was helpful!

For the daytripper, there are picnic grounds, a playground for the kiddos, walking trails, kite-flying fields and a tiny beach. Not much beats hanging out on a quilt under your beach umbrella while the kiddos bounce in the shallow waves. If you're planning a multi-day stay, the campground offers many amenities that have been upgraded in recent years. A modern wash-house offers hot showers and flush toilets - a real improvement! Campsites are generous and mostly secluded, allowing you to enjoy nature without being on top of your neighbour. Costs are reasonable, although regulations have tightened up in the last few years. Don't let that stop you, though - Graves Island truly has to be experienced to be believed.

It has a rubbery artifical surface which means it doesn't get muddy, and softens trips and falls. The worn-out previous wooden ship playstructure was replaced in Fall 2015. There is a bathroom which is clean, heated and open all year round. As a bonus for those in the diaper way it also has change tables- in both bathrooms. There are lots of benches around the playground so it is easy to sit and keep an eye on the kids. In the Summer, the park is close to cool breezes from the Basin. It is fun to spread out a blanket and watch the ships sailing in and out of Bedford yacht squadron. There is a brick walkway that goes along the waterfront that is great for casual strolls and running. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Narrows. It is kept clear in the Winter so you often see people pushing strollers and older people getting some fresh air.

There is basically nothing blocking your view in the park. Which I'm guessing is a plus when you bring kids to the park to play, a pano view of the surroundings. It's basically a big patch of grass between the ocean and the parking lot. Lots of benches, lots of fantastic views of the basin. It was winter when I stopped in to check this park out, but I think there is a paved path/boardwalk that goes pretty far. It's a great place to walk your dog (on leash) or go for a stroll if you're in Bedford and in the market for that kinda thing.

The trail is on the site of an abandoned railway line leading west out of Halifax towards the South Shore. This trail also leads into the city now, to the new Chain of Lakes Trail, so you can get to the BLT from a Halifax recreational trail. At the other end of the BLT you can connect to the St. Margaret's Bay Rails to Trails and ride out to Tantallon and beyond to Boutliers Point and Ingramport. We have gone both ways. They are essentially one trail, but they go by different names in different parts. I guess they were built at different times, or run by different associations. To get there from Clayton Park, we drive through Bayers Lake and go out the other side passing by Rona and the Canadiana restaurant. Here you turn right onto highway 3. Then you drive a little bit, then turn right on Lakeside Park drive. Look for the Coca Cola plant on your left. Park your car in the lot and you are at the trail head for the BLT. Here you can get on your bike or begin your walk. There is parking for about 20 cars. There used to be ATVs on the trail, but I think they discontinued them. I see people walking and people riding their bikes. People walk their dogs there too. I know of one beaver dam, one waterfall, and once I saw some deer at the far end of the trail. There is a big lake in the middle with benches to sit on, (called Cranberry Lake) and often people and/or dogs go for a swim. The whole trail is about 13 kms long, from the Coke plant to the St. Margaret's Bay Trail. We bring bikes, helmets and a snack in the panier. It is fun to be outside in the fresh air. A really nice spot to spend a few hours.
