I've been passing by this booth for years, assuming it was just tourist info & SF tote bags. Wrong. You can buy a Clipper card here, but more importantly, here's where you get a senior Clipper card. If you consider yourself computer capable & figure you can help your senior friend out, you're going to be embarrassed. Online application is a no-go, which means you can't use the Clipper app as a senior until you apply for the card in person. Yes, confusing. After a lot of frustration I broke down and called consumer help line & got a live human who explained all this. It was around 2pm on a Tuesday at the Ferry Building & there was no waiting to get service. So easy, so friendly & helpful. The whole process took less than 5 minutes. And this is probably the only place in San Francisco you can find a paper map.

Customer Service- good luck getting any of that!

According to their website, the Bay Crossings bills itself as a "ferry ticket shop and ferry and tour information center." As a customer service company, they could not be less oriented to service. When I was notified that my Angel Island/Alcatraz tour (purchased online) coincided with the SF Marathon, I realized that my group (which included a handicapped individual) would likely not be able to make it from the Oakland to SF ferry to Pier 33 in time because of the road closures- especially Embarcadero. After trying to call the number provided with no success, I was excited to see Bay Crossings at the Ferry Building with two human beings to see if they could suggest a way to get to get from the ferry to Pier 33 on time. And there were no customers in the shop, so perfect timing, right? I started to explain my situation to one of the employees who was listening, when the other one appeared and interrupted me, and not so helpfully he pointed off in the distance, naming some streets (to which I am unfamiliar as an out of towner). And then concludes with "it is all online." Stunned, I repeated "it is all online?" His reply, "It is all online." He didn't hear what I had started to explain to the first employee, nor did he know the information I had gleaned already from looking at the schedules and marathon routes/closures. Guess his customer service approach is to shut down any specific questions and simply direct people who are not familiar with the area to the internet. Gee thanks.

During Covid-19 indoor spacing is important. We were waiting in front of the display for this store for our bagels, as the area in front of that business was crowded. He asks us to move which was unfortunate, as while waiting I saw a book I wanted to purchase, which is what happens when people serendipitously linger around a business. Not buying it here for sure.

City Lights is one of my favorite bookstores in San Francisco. There's something about wandering…read morethrough it that makes me feel like a kid again. With every twist and turn, another staircase or room appears, filled with books and entirely new worlds to discover. It always brings me back to the days I spent with my grandmother at our old library. We would sit together on the stairs and read to each other, completely content to spend hours surrounded by books. I think that's part of why City Lights feels so special to me--it brings back that same sense of curiosity, comfort, and excitement I felt with her. I rarely come here looking for one specific thing. The fun is wandering the shelves until a cover, title, or completely unexpected book catches my attention. Somehow I always leave with another story I can't wait to disappear into. There are bookstores you go to simply to buy a book, and then there are bookstores you experience. City Lights is the latter. It's a little piece of San Francisco that I hope never changes.

One of the neatest bookstores in the US. The Poetry room upstairs is wonderful. So much fun…read morehistory here to learn about. If I could give Goodreads zero stars, I would…read more I started experiencing review-bombing on my book in February 2022. It was coming from TikTok users whom I never directly interacted with. The reviews on my works were obvious violations of guidelines, so I reported them and requested for Goodreads to remove my works, which I own under title 17 of the United States Code. They never responded nor addressed those reviews. I experienced it again with my new release, which was never submitted by me on Goodreads. This time, the reviews were even more harmful. I contacted support again and my readers attempted to help me. Their reviews (genuine and detailed) were removed but the trolls were never addressed. I just sent a cease and desist letter to their headquarters, and I will take further legal actions to protect my works but it is appalling that a company can operate with such business practices. I invite any author who was targeted to review them, stand against them and take actions to hold them accountable.

Finally a book community for avid book lovers! Goodreads is an online community composing of book…read morereviews, recommendations, plot spoilers and discussions for like minded positive intellectuals. A united conglomerate where book readers gather to share without being chastise. Readers can search by book title, author name, and ISBN. I'm old school as I love to physically touch a book and turn the pages rather than scrolling page down on a computer screen. It is here where I was able to find one of my childhood books to learn that the author has continued writing the series for a total of five books (I've only known the first two exist until learning of Goodreads. com). Books -- where a good read is an easy find! All in all, pickup a good book for good reads!

I can find restaurants that are well rated AT MY PRICE POINT. Then I can further research on YELP to see if they are reachable on MUNI, BART with a short walk. Even the obits are enjoyable giving you insight into ordinary people from the bay area who have led interesting lives. I like the Chronicle.

Updated review. Last month I received my credit card statement that the San Francisco Chronicle…read morecharged me $39 for a newspaper subscription. I had to call the credit card company to dispute the charge. Why? I have canceled the subscription several years ago. I haven't received their newspaper after that cancelation. To this date, no newspaper has been delivered to my home. The credit card company sent me a letter, notifying me that the $39 has been credited to my account. Yesterday I received an invoice from the San Francisco Chronicle wanting to charge me $76 with a new paid through date of June 28, 2026. Okay, I don't know why they want to sweat on me for $76 since I did not ask for a renewal subscription and there is no newspaper delivered to my home. I don't want the damn newspaper even if it were free. I will have to call their number (415 777-7000) to pick a bone with them. It looks like they are trying to prey on a senior citizen with their nonsense. Enough said!
