From the start, Julia focused on setting the right, achievable goals, and it made all the difference. Because of her expertise, my son was able to meet every milestone we set. Her communication with us as parents is top-notch; after every session, she provides a clear summary of his strengths and areas for improvement, which helps us stay on track at home. Most importantly, my son absolutely loves her and looks forward to every session. We couldn't be happier with the progress he's made! I also want to give a huge shout-out to Tracy at the front desk! When we started at Keys to Communication, my daughter was barely speaking--she hardly said any words. After a year of services with Ms. Patricia and Ms. Janet, who were both equally amazing, my daughter is now at an average level for her age. I can't thank the staff enough, all of whom are so kind, for their services and for the wonderful care they provided my daughter while she was a patient at this clinic. I truly recommend this place and their services.

I am a single father that struggled to find helpful resources for my 6 year old autistic son,…read moreAyden, that is non-verbal. I leaned on my job's network and I had multiple peers singing the praises of Bright Stars for speech therapy. Due to the hurdles I have faced in the past, I was rather pessimistic at first and made some assumptions, that maybe this place would be like others with a long waitlist and would just forget about me. However, Kristen White reached out to me even though there was a waitlist and pulled some strings to assist me in getting care that I need because she saw how bad I was struggling. Her smile and calming tone gave me hope that there was a light at the end of the tunnel with getting my child the help he needs. After the evaluation, we did not have to wait too long before we are connected with Chelsea Miranda. She was an amazing start in my speech therapy journey and I thoroughly enjoyed working with her. My son, Ayden, would run to her in excitement and ready for the educational play. Although she informed me she was relatively new, I feel like her willingness to engage with my son every session and focusing on building a connection won me over with Bright Stars. Due to scheduling issues I am having at the moment, unfortunately we no longer could work with Chelsea. On the other hand, in life when one door closes another door opens, and I could not be more happy to start working with Dakota Noble. When I tell you, I was nearly emotional after our first few sessions because I felt like the insurance commercial, I am finally in good hands. The cool thing about Dakota is that she have a vast background working with autistic children and day one I could tell she was the one (therapist wise of course, don't want my girlfriend mad at me). The way Ayden runs to the center and grabs her hand and take her to the room for their session warms my heart. I am just an engineer that is still figuring out this fatherhood and child services for a special needs child out. Not only has Ayden been building a connection and growing, but she has been an outstanding mentor from a parenting perspective on figuring out how to navigate everything. She is so intelligent, patience, and kind. It is an interesting feeling to not only have your child feeling heard, understood, and seen, but a parent that is fighting to be the best parent they can be feeling the same way is unmatched. So I say all of this because I wanted to show my appreciation of the Bright Stars staff that includes the front desk that has worked with my chaotic schedule too, Candace Carson-Brunt and Carol Cabri. Thank you all and I appreciate you all from the bottom of my heart and I look forward to continuing to work with you all.

Kristen and Dakota kept sessions fun and engaging while working on oral motor skills, articulation, and vocabulary. Their annual testing and plans were easy to share with her school team, which kept everyone focused on the same goals. As someone with Down Syndrome, speech will always be something my daughter has to work on, but I'm so proud of how articulate she is and that people can understand her. I'm very grateful for the support and partnership Bright Stars has provided and highly recommend them.

The following is one example of the many times Udie threw a life line to children who were struggling through her evaluations. When an 8th grade girl's learning challenges presented as a mystery to me, I sent her to Udie for a speech and language assessment. Prior to my meeting Anvi*, her mom had literally drove Anvi to the mental health bldg near my local hospital because she was at a complete loss on how to help her. Anvi's grades had never been great, but they were slipping to almost failing and her standardized test scores were dropping too. The school had no answers & offered little help. Udie's evaluation revealed a significant expressive language delay that affected both reading comprehension and written expression. Anvi's genial nature and unwitting help from adults who filled in the gaps in her communications masked the true nature of her problems. It was like a blanket had been lifted when Udie diagnosed Anvi's language disability. Once helpless, Anvi's mom now had a road map to finding the best way to support her. I still see Anvi around town and she is happy & thriving. I can't imagine what would have happened had Udie not uncovered the source of Anvi's difficulties. Udie is supremely knowledgeable & experienced in her field. She brings intelligence & creativity to address each child's unique profile. Udie offers individually designed programs to fit each child, rather than fit a child into a predesigned program as some well known chain clinics do. My criterion for recommending a professional includes: are they knowlegeable, do they keep up with research, do they communicate my child's needs to me and arethey empathtic & kind. My observations of working with kids for over 30 years is they are not concerned about the furniture or conditions of a place, but how they felt & how they were treated when they were there. I would not recommend anywhere else to someone who needs the services provided by Udie and her staff. *name has been changed

It took nearly three months to secure appointments for my son. The initial appointments were scheduled incorrectly, and I then had to complete additional paperwork to have them corrected, which resulted in further delays in care. Communication from the office has been inconsistent -- each time I called, I spoke with a different staff member and had to re-explain the entire situation. There was also confusion regarding appointment times, despite me notifying the office about schedule changes in advance. That said, I want to be very clear that the therapists -- particularly Ms. Nicole -- have been wonderful. She is passionate, attentive, and clearly cares deeply about her patients. The clinical care itself has been positive. It's unfortunate that the administrative side does not reflect the same level of organization and professionalism as the therapists. I truly hope the practice can improve its scheduling and communication systems, because the clinicians deserve that support. For families who have flexible schedules, this may be a good fit. However, for two working parents who need consistency and clear communication, it was not sustainable for us.

From intake to our final class, the staff made sure that the scheduling process was a breeze, and that visits did not fall short of expectations. They have an excellent staff dedicated to your child's development, and the office is pristine. Not just clean; very well kept. I noticed that there wasn't one tear on a book or broken toys. They put lots of effort into upkeep, knowing well that toys and books can take a beating with younger kids. East Bay Child Development Center has terrific speech therapists and therapists specialized in helping in all other types of child development, including but not limited to physical therapy, etc. We went through 2 different speech therapists and 1 or 2 therapy students which was a little harder for our son to grow accustomed to because it would take him awhile to warm up (which I've learned isn't unusual for any development therapy center), but each therapist tried their absolute best to ensure they were giving him the utmost care and attention.

Everybody there seems to go everywhere, I don't know if these people work here are they clients. The back door to the outside was open, this is called dysfunctional. The office receptionist was like his first day to work, confused and looked around like a lost boy. There four people by office were speaking loud and chatting. They failed my son years ago when he was younger because they said he was not ready for speech when I just changed my insurance to get accepted to come here. Now he's 12 years old saying he's not a good fit. Shame on you to say that to me. You can't discharge him that's illegal. My son is trying with his speech and he has rights in California to receive speech therapy any age. Discrimination by the ability, then age, what's next because his sister running around the office and also I was on the phone? For that lady who spoke with me today over the phone couldn't wait on me. And making me feel like I was being fired from the job, she sounded rude and said my daughter was running around the room and I was speaking loud on the phone so the excuse to fail my son. Then changed her words saying he's not a good fit and he runs fast and wants to push the kids. She needs to find more excuses for her to dismiss him. You don't know how hard and challenging to be a mother of autistic kid. I finally thought I have him his speech going and then you locked me up like shutting my mouth. Go see if your speech therapist is the one who has the problem. She too lazy to give speech therapy or has a lack of skills. This is Shameless and discrimination.

There are a few things that I wish I had known from the beginning, so I thought it might be helpful to share them with other families who are interested in the center: -at this point, fall of 2019, it doesn't seem that there is anyone else working at the center-some reviews mentioned a team of people, so I'm guessing that might have been in years past -because of Mary's delicate immune system, she requested that we cancel sessions if anyone in our family had any signs of illness, such as a runny nose. With my family, this was problematic, as I have a younger son too and work with children in my own work, so we ended up missing quite a few sessions even in the first month -communication about scheduling, superbills, etc can be challenging. Overall, I wish that these issues had not cropped up, as I definitely had the feeling that Mary has a lot to offer her clients and she also can be supportive of parents as well, with parenting tips if they are wanted.
