DEAL: Join their mailing list to book a deal directly on their website. When you arrive they might offer you VIP seating with a shot glass gift if you didn't already purchase it beforehand. They didn't volunteer the information about how many rows there are so be sure to ask how many rows there are because we were about to pay extra, but there were only going to be maybe 6-7 rows so we didn't mind not sitting up front. Maybe if it was 20 rows then I would have upgraded and paid extra. It also depends on which room they use so sometimes they don't know yet how many rows they will have. Even if you don't sit up front you still might be picked to partake in the show, but no guarantees. OVERALL: I recommend this dinner and magic show as a different activity from a boring night at a restaurant and the movies. The dinner reminded me of a full course Chinese dinner like what you would order banquet style. I thought the food was tasty and enough portions to where there were very little leftover. They played music during dinner which made it nice. I thought we would be eating dinner and watching a magic show at the same time, but you eat dinner first then go to a different room to watch the show. DETAILS: they do magic at the table as you're waiting for dinner. Check in is in the back private rooms. I think it's worth arriving on time to see the table magic. Dan had his son there who was a cute kid and talented. He did magic too. I didn't mind it being like a family affair it made it more sincere and genuine. Dan and his son even sat at our table and ate dinner. You are sitting with people you don't know who bought tickets for the show. Dress isn't formal I'd say semi formal is good or even business casual you would fit in just fine. There was a couple here that had attended the dinner and show 3 times. Dan asked them which show they saw so he could try to make sure he did magic they hadn't seen before. I thought that was considerate of him and probably why they keep coming back. LOCATION: they have the Cupertino location in Vallco mall or the Oakland location in downtown Chinatown area. We went to the Cupertino one. PARK: Outside parking in the parking structure behind what used to be TGI Fridays, but is now some kind of sports grill lounge bar. This is the perfect family activity, especially if you have Chinese parents - they'll LOVE it. I was afraid that the teenagers would think a magic show was lame, but they really enjoyed it as well and appreciated the unique dinner-and-a-show experience. I was also happily surprised that they served legit Chinese banquet dishes, like honey walnut prawns and duck buns. There was more than enough food and I could tell that Dan & co. were really trying to take care of us and make sure that everyone was satisfied. As for the show, the focus this time was on sleight of hand and card tricks. They put on different shows based on the size of the group, and as we came on a random Monday night, our group was smaller. We got to see lots of close-up magic (like stuff involving rubber bands or tiny peas you wouldn't be able to see on a big stage) which we were still trying to figure out days later. I wasnt sure what to expect from this but I gave it a chance because I thought this would be something my parents would like. They speak very limited English so even though the entire show was spoken in English, it didnt take away from the awesome trick and show. There were some parts that if you didnt understand English, you would be derping pretty hard but that is just the way it goes. I got two groupon deals for $115 a pair and I guess it is usually $100 a person for dinner and the show. You can have the option to buy just the show but there is no groupon for that. Once you have the groupon, you make the reservation online and type in those groupon codes so you end up paying $0 then and just bringing in your groupon the day of. This was held in one of the private rooms in Dynasty and there were roughly 40 people total. Come in before dinner starts at 7 so that they come around each table and do some tricks. There isnt assigned seating but they just randomly place you there. I got there around 6:30 and there were a few people already there. It started a bit later which also pushed out the show start to 8:15. The banquet food included soup, noodles, rice, peking duck, shrimp, pork ribs, string beans, pea sprouts, walnut shrimp, and fried fish. I thought it was a pretty good banquet meal as I was expecting like the cheaper American food. Once you finish eating, hurry and grab a seat. There may already be seats reserved in the front for those who pay more so just be aware of that. The show was great. Dan and Jennifer were great. The highlight of the show was definitely Dan's boy, James. He is so cute and adorable! He did a few tricks before dinner started and this kid does all these tricks and he is only 7. It is that cute father son act I tell you. He did great in the actual show, especially at the end but I dont want to ruin the surprise. Jennifer was a guest magician and one of hers was my favorite trick where I was straight up amazed. I still dont get it and I probably never will. I have to say that dinner and show were a bit pricey but my family enjoyed it and I really liked supporting Dan and co. since they are so nice and cute together. Yay for litto James! read more

I came here on some online deal (it ended up being about $100 with another $20 for priority seating for TWO of us instead of $200 or so). It was a very nice and personal experience. I was informed that about 66 people were there for the event. The event starts when we are seated in a dining area with about 10 or so tables, each with about 10 people seated. Dinner is served "family style" where we all share the entrees among the people at our table. The food was actually pretty good. While eating, magicians would come to our table and show us some tricks. It was very nice. Some tricks were very impressive. Even close up. Although I could see some of the hidden secrets from where I was sitting. All in all, the dinner portion was nice and relaxing. One tip though. If you're coming here, make sure to go to the bathroom BEFORE sitting down at your table. A couple of the guests at my table left to go to the bathroom and missed a few of the tricks. Seemed like a waste. Afterward, they escorted the people who paid the extra $10/person first to the stage area (seemed like 20 or so people). Then the rest of the attendees were escorted to the stage area. We sat in the 2nd row which was fairly close. The show was entertaining and somewhat impressive. Definitely not like something you see in Las Vegas but still a great show nonetheless. Not sure if I would go again (once you've seen a magic trick, it's not as impressive the 2nd time) but I would definitely have gone for a first time experience. We even got to meet Dan Chan in person, up close, since we arrived pretty early. He showed us some close-up tricks as well as took a picture with us at the end (along with the other magicians). I went to a dinner show with the Dan Chan Presents dinner show team and it was absolutely amazing. The night I went Dan was accompanied by a comedy magician, and a magician doing crazy tricks with CD's and even a shadow puppet bit. I've seen plenty of magicians and Dan's magic is top notch. The 3 shell game is totally amazing and fooled us again and again. Also equally amazing was the card trick where he made my signed card appear in his wallet. I used the checkout code "direct" on the website giving us free upgraded seating. He also gave us a cool ambigram shot glass that said Dan Chan Magic Man both upside down and right side up. My name is Rudy and I am a (Mike/Dan/Alex)-holic. Coming into this show I did not know what to expect. Not only was this one of my first live magic shows, but also the first dinner magic show. The show first starts of with getting people seated in round tables with friends and family. The magicians, one-by-one approach the tables casually without much fanfare, but the magic tricks performed in front of you shock the socks out of you. I won't disclose the magic tricks performed, but let me tell you that even though our table had 5 engineers we could not figure out the tricks. In general, I would say they are simple tricks with high impact factor that leave the table agasp. After that a LOT of food comes out. I don't recall the complete menu (again, too many dishes to recall), but I did appreciate that one of the magicians sat with us to entertain any questions we had about him. For most of the magicians that I have seen I know the magic that they perform, but do not know much about their personal story. What they were doing before? How they got into the world of magic? What is their lifestyle? What conferences do they go to? How do you become a great magician? Given that I love to travel to explore different cultures, it was very interesting to learn about being a magician's. Once full and content with the food we are then transferred into a seating area where we get to see more complicated and shocking magic tricks. The kind of thing you would see in an auditorium but close-up. From the levitation kind of tricks all the way to mind reading and humor. Overall it was a great experience. My favorite parts were definitely the close-up magic and getting to talk to the magicians. The latter of which you seldom do in magic shows. Our family of 3 got tickets through Goldstar for VIP seating and had a fantastic evening. The dinner was top notch, some of the best Peking duck ever , and the magic show very entertaining. I couldn't tell what tricks they were using even standing next to the slight of hand. Our 11 year old wished the show was longer, which is about the highest compliment he could give! Sooooo entertaining!!! Wow! Such a great night filled with laughter, amazement, confusion, delicious food and great company! I found Bay Area Dinner Show when searching for an entertainer for a corporate holiday party in December and was unable to book a show because I called a week before... my bad. A few weeks later I decided to call Dan Chan about my father's birthday party and see if he could put on a show in Oakland for us. Dan went above and beyond...really... to coordinate and find a date that worked for my family. He was so accommodating and wonderful to work with. He is a great guy... kind, warm, funny and extremely personable. The show was wonderful to say the least! He showed us many illusions that truly amazed us and had us talking about it for days! My father who is a sceptic about these kinds of things was thrilled with the performance. We came with a group of 10 people, ages 16 - 60 and everyone enjoyed the show and told me they would go see Dan and his performers again! My favorite thing about Bay Area Dinner Show is that it's not just magic or illusions, but a full night of entertainment. Dan makes you laugh, think, participate, work together and play together. I told him at the end of the show that I had seen David Copperfield in Las Vegas last year and in my opinion, Dan's show was much much more entertaining! Sure... Dan didn't make a life size vehicle disappear (we were at a restaurant... not a Las Vegas Stage), but the intimacy, participation and seeing tricks I had never seen before was way more fun than sitting in a large auditorium staring at a stage that is so far you can't believe what you see. Had the Pleasure of going to this last night to start of my birthday week! =) Me and my bf got their a little late, but they were still very kind and promptly sat us for dinner, where there were magicians at every table doing "close-up" magic to entertain as the dinner courses began to roll out. We had the pleasure of sitting with many of the magicians during the actual dinner part, which was great. The dinner is a "family-syle" setting, where you sit at a larger table (even others that you did not come with). Me and the bf had no problem with that. It was actual a plus to be able to engage in conversation with many other people from around the bay area. As for the actual dinner, it was pretty good. I would say probably around 7 or 8 different Chinese dishes. Our personal favorite was the Peking duck =). After dinner, we were then led to another room where we were entertained by various comedy-magician acts. It was a very small setting, which helped with the magicians being more one-on-one. I would say roughly 40 guests in all. I had the pleasure of being called up for an act lol ..... oh man... dancing and doing the YMCA... good time! haha Overall, Me and the bf had a great experience in all aspects of the night. The only reason I gave one star less was for small things. Though the food was good, I felt a little disconnect between the show and the servers of the dinner. Almost as if they were two separate entities. Also, The production of the actual show was pretty low-key, BUT that did not take away from the talent of all the performers at hand. Took our grand daughter to the show for her 9th birthday. Paid the extra $20 for priority seating so that she had some involvement/interaction with the performers. Turned out we got to sit front row center and our little girl had an awesome time and even participated in a couple of the acts. They had 7 different performers all very skilled in their craft and the show was most enjoyable - we all had a great time. Will go back again when the acts get a change/refresh. Only markdown was for "average quality" food at the restaurant. Would definitely recommend this for a good night out. read more

Okay my yelps, listen up? I have a public announcement to make lol. On Memorial day May 26 2015. I had the most joyful, laughable and exciting time of my life at the Bay Area Dinner and Magic Show. Where do I start? This location is in an excellent quiet secluded area, in china town,close to downtown Oakland near Broadway. It was so pleasant ,peaceful and very clean. F.Y.I. When I goggled the address it gave me 288 9th street suite 288, I took a cab to that address it does not exist. So I contacted Dan Chan the person who was directing the show and he navigated me right to the restaurant. The correct address is 388 9 Th st.suite 288 located in The Peony seafood Restaurant on the 2nd floor. So my friend and I arrived 30 minutes early before show time and we decided to go out and have a cocktail on Broadway. We arrived back at the appointed time which was 6:30 pm for showtime. When we returned the place was full. We were seated with some very nice people including Dan, his son Kevin who was also performing at 7 years old. So smart intelligent and very entertaining. I was like Wow... Dan Chan is so down to earth and very personable,We all shared some personal experiences amongst each other about our self's it was so awesome to be in the presence of this wonderful magician, I was honored. There were 3 Magicians Dan, Kevin and Cal.and they all did a phenomenal job confusing and making people think very hard about there magic and mystery's. I was chosen to participate in the show by reading Q card for Cal, while Cal guessed a paying card number that the other participant was thinking in his head. you got it he guessed it We were all amazed and very well satisfied. with the awesome delicious food and dessert Laughing out of our seats, Thanks Dan you are the man!!! read more

This is the first time I have attended a Magic show/dinner entertaining event. The Magic show I have attended comprised of a lead magician, a mentalist, and a sleight-of-hand guy. The experience is very intimate as the magician will walk around the table interacting with the customers and shows them magic trick to entertain the customers while we're waiting for the main show to begin. Food was excellent and services were impeccable. I absolutely recommend this for a gift for anniversary, birthday, or just a surprise for your significant others. I was watching the dinner show last night at Chinese Dynasty Restaurant. I had a enjoyable night. First of all we started off with foods, like fried rice and all the yummy food. After we finished and relaxed for a bit, then we moved to a room and the dinner show begins. Mike was the guy who starts off, with some silly trick. ha ha that was funny. Then Dan and Alex to show their magic skills. I like the dinner show, They mix comedy into their magic show. Also they let the audience to participate some of the magic tricks, that make us to pay even more attention to the show. I agreed with the review by Rama K. I don't understand why so many people give it a 5-star rating. We went to the dina/show at Dynasty in Cupertino. There were less than 20 people. We paid $150 each for VIP seats, but did not see any difference because we all sat together and ate the same food. The dinner portion costs about $40. The food was so so. If we ordered the same food at a Chinese restaurant, it would cost us about $20. The magic show was good. The magicians look young, and very friendly. But the portion we paid for the magic show is about $110. It is not worth that much. Overall, the dinner/show is over priced. No wonder not too many came to the dinner/show. I must say their tricks were very professional, things that would be good enough for TV. Some of the tricks were just puzzling. One of my friend invited me over to watch a magic, at first I thought it will just be another ordinary magic show. When I was sitting in the back and waiting for the show to start, I did not expect it would became an amazing show. For the price I pay, it was definitely worth it. Mike started the show with his great sense of humor and his funny magic tricks. It made me feel very relax through out his part. Then Alex and Dan came in with their stunning magic tricks which were very amusing, giving the audience a great deal of joy. Not just a great magic show, it's full of variety. The show I saw also included feats of pick-pocketing. Still wondering how he got the watches and wallets of the guy off so quickly. We got the "direct" deal from the website with VIP upgrade. The VIP upgrade was a must for our family since my husband absolutely loves close up magic. Dan spends most of the time on the VIP tables, the other tables were done by his associates. Ask him to do his special "dinner show" and "3 shell trick". It's crazy!!! We're still raving about it days after the show. When I sat down to talk to Dan at dinner he was so personable. I found out his clients have flown him around the world to entertain for billionaires in Sun Valley Idaho and even Japan 4 times. A real class act and a great time. read more

If you've been to magic shows before, many of the tricks you see here are classic sleight of hand tricks that you've probably seen many times. And you can tell these guys are not quite master magicians yet--observant viewers may sometimes see what's hidden behind their hands (though part of this is also because you're seated very close to the stage so it's just not possible to fool everyone). That said, it's still very enjoyable and if you use the discount code on their website, it's a good deal for a fun night out with a date or with friends. The family-style Chinese dinner is decent, and the lack of polish in the actual magic tricks is made up for by the comedic acts. There are surprising twists to some of the classic tricks, some new tricks you may not have seen elsewhere before, and audience engagement is high. There were only three rows of about 15 seats per row the night we went, and everyone in the front row plus quite a few people from the 2nd and 3rd rows were invited to participate at one point or another. Dan's young son and daughter were seated at two of the tables and provided some unexpected adorable entertainment while we ate simply by being themselves, as only kids can do. My mom, 13 year old daughter and I, attended the Bay Area Dinner Show last night. It is held at the Dynasty Seafood Restaurant in the Vallco Mall which is 90% closed for major renovations. Finding the location was hard since many of the entrances are closed. Walking into the empty mall was weird and non impressive. The restaurant itself was huge but not updated. The staff upon entering the restaurant was not warm nor friendly, we asked where the dinner show was and they pointed out a sign that lead to the back room, they did not offer to usher us to the event. Once to the backroom we found A long hallway with many smaller meeting rooms. Our show was in a smaller meeting room. I would say the room was maybe 20 x 20. The room feel cluttered, as there were three large tables, lots of extra chairs, equipment and other items. We were greeted by Dan, the magician and his son James who is nine and adorable. We were seated while we waited for the other guests to arrive. James and Dan did a bit of tableside magic, basic stuff with shells and cards. It was all very good and they were very sweet and entertaining. I have been to other magic shows and seen similar things, however it is still very good. The food was served on a huge Lazy Susan and we all shared it with the other guests. The food was very good. There was very little table service and any drinks were extra charge. the restaurant staff was not warm or friendly. After dinner in the cramped room about 10 to 12 people more people came just for the show. The show lasted what felt like 30 minutes and included more card tricks, some shell tricks, juggling by the nine-year-old and a A few other tricks that I have seen before. Nothing was mind blowing . The room was tiny, the act was very close up but because there were so many people sometimes hard to see. The music was ran by the nine-year-old with prompts from his dad, it was not professional at all (although JAMES was incredibly talented and adorable). My daughter thought he made the show. The host was very sweet but the show was just not fine-tuned or professional feeling. I felt like I was going to a good home grown garage show. They needed a better set up . Too much rearranging of proofs and furniture, The room was way too small. With all that said, I want to say we were entertained and we did have fun but it was not what we expected.
