I was looking for a new Veterinarian as the one I was previously at were not up to my standards. As I approached Baxter, they did require you to kind of be put on a waiting list but it was not that long maybe a week or so I have three golden retrievers and they were taking real good care of and catering to all their needs, such as updated shots and check up and ensuring that their health is very good. read more

We moved to the Fort Mill area from out of state a few years ago, and were so worried about finding a vet hospital that I'd feel as comfortable with as the one we left behind. We're so glad we found Baxter Vet! We have two rescue cats that we adopted as adults, and they were both abused before we got them. Due to this, they're terrified of everyone other than myself and my husband, so it always makes me anxious to bring them anywhere because of their stress levels. Baxter has always gone above and beyond to make them comfortable. They have a room waiting for them when we arrive, and they always do everything possible in the exam room since they're more comfortable with me. All of the doctors that we've seen (Dr. Siegfried, Dr. Crovesi and Dr. Baete) as well as the nurses and front desk staff have been so kind and caring towards them as well as me. I chose this place because it's AAHA accredited (which my last vet at home was and why I looked for that) and they've always gone above and beyond to provide what I feel is a really high level of care from just their annual exams all the way to dental surgery. My older cat had to have an echocardiogram recently and they even have a traveling specialist that came to Baxter to do it so I didn't have to drive to a specialist in Charlotte. The prices are actually really reasonable for this area so that's a bonus too! Overall cannot recommend this practice enough! read more

Baxter Veterinary is okay, if you have a designer dog with perfect behavior. But if you have a pet that you adopted from a shelter and/or understandably gets nervous during a visit to the vet, better to look for a staff with more understanding and patience. My dog, who was a patient at Baxter for 4-5 years, needed follow-up care for a hematoma we had to have surgically removed while out of town. First they referred me to the Urgent Care on Gold Hill to have his ear cleaned and re-wrapped (who were fantastic by the way), and then just refused, for a week and a half, to schedule an appointment in order to have his stitches removed. Our numerous calls were just ignored until we were forced to find a new vet, or maybe that was their way to discharge us from the practice? Just beware... read more

The facility is conveniently located very close to my home. It has excellent doctors, a veterinary clinic, grooming services, and a spa for pets all in one place. While I find the prices to be higher than average, the quality of the facility and the personnel make it worth the cost for me. read more

I have been struggling to decide whether to write this review. I gave it some time for the raw emotion to go away and decided that it is my responsibility to share my experience with this establishment. I had 2 dogs, both 4 years old that we brought to Baxter since puppies. Much of our experience was positive, several of the staff members were warm and helpful and seemed to love our dogs, but there was a general feeling that the people that ran this place were solely out for the money and it felt at times very impersonal. I wish I would have acted on that feeling and left before it was too late. Our beloved 4 year old Springer Spaniel got an ear infection and we struggled with topical treatments to get rid of it. Baxter recommended a specialist, but that Vet couldn't see us for 6 weeks. They then consulted with the Specialist and prescribed Fluconazole for our dog. He was on it for a little over 3 weeks and in hindsight, experienced some side effects to the medicine (which we didn't realize, because the side effects were never discussed) None of these potential side effects were ever discussed, so we never realized any of them. Then, suddenly, the dog stopped eating. He had a very restless night after he started not eating, so we took him to the ER late that night, worried primarily that he may have had bloat. Nothing was uncovered at the ER visit, other than to say, maybe he ate something he didn't agree with and to follow up with Baxter the next day. I called Baxter early that morning, while the dog was crying most of the morning, telling me something was wrong. Baxter said that since I didn't have an appointment, I could bring him in for an additional $95 fee! This after the dog had been there 3x in the past 6 weeks for well over $1,000 and a $400 ER visit at the Hospital. But sure, you charge me an extra $95. That sent me a terrible message. But the health of my dog overrode my anger and I paid the fee. The Vet we saw that day examined the dog and also couldn't find anything that appeared wrong. He said "we could do bloodwork", "but we just did it 3 weeks ago" (Which we did). However, that was before starting the Fluconazole. We took him home and he continued through the weekend, barely eating, throwing up and having diarrhea. We brought him back first thing Monday morning, they finally did the bloodwork and noticed that his counts were off, indicating some Liver malfunction. In the interest of making this a shorter story, 4 days later, we put him down after spending the rest of his time in the Hospital and deteriorating to the point of no return. He was 4 years old, with no underlying conditions or health issues, other than ear infections, prior to being on that medication. Flucanozole has known side effects and is not FDA approved for pets. One of the leading side effects is that it can do damage to the liver. None of these side effects were ever mentioned or disclosed to us. In addition, when we brought him in with symptoms, we got all sorts of questions as to what he could have eaten. Like mushrooms, or berries, or standing water. They prescribed the medication, with all the side effects that are known, yet never made any mention that it could have been that. Looking back, I consider this to be a major oversight. I requested a call with Dr. Beatte. During this call, she accepted no accountability for anything. She blamed the specialist for prescribing the medication, she blamed the Animal Hospital for not notifying them of putting the dog down. She in effect "fired us" as a client since she said, "it sounds like you lost trust in us and I would like to part ways". As if it was our fault that the trust was lost. After putting our dog down, we got flowers, cards, notes, texts and phone calls from our groomer, our doggy day care and the Animal Hospital. Baxter Vet fired us as a client as a parting gift and credited back the $95 for the no appointment fee. After charging us thousands. That should give everyone a good idea of who they are. Sadly, I would not recommend them to anyone. I will never know for sure whether this medication contributed to the loss of our dog, but the fact that none of these side effects were ever discussed with us, is flat out negligent. Update after response - So we apparently weren't "appreciative" enough? So we are the bad people in this? WOW, just blown away by this complete lack of accountability and blaming the dog for "eating something", but absolutely no accountability or consideration that the medication could have affected this. No accountability for not making us aware of potential side effects. Just the excuse that he was on it once before, when potential side effects were never mentioned either. We have been coming to Baxter since we moved to the area 2 years ago. It may be a little pricier then other places, but you pay for what you get. We have always received the BEST care for our pups. I am writing this review now after having to put our 13 yo baby down. I have only had to do this once before and this experience was way better than the previous one. The doctor and nurse were so comforting and understanding of the situation. They provided us with the information we needed to make the decision. They have a private room where they do this and it has nice chairs, tissues, waters and a private exit. Thank you to Baxter for making this horrible thing as good as it could be. read more

After a Quality of Life appointment with Dr. Jacob Mauck, my husband and I agreed it was time to put our senior dog to rest as her health continued to deteriorate. He said we could return later that day between 3:30 and 4:30. We arrived at 3:30 and met with Julie. She provided details about the euthanasia procedure, requested and processed payment, then took our dog to the back to insert the IV. She said she'd allow us time alone together, and return in a few minutes. Nearly one hour passed, and no one came. When Mauck arrived, I expressed my grievances, and he apologized for the delay. He also reminded me: "I did say between 3:30 and 4:30", and, "I had clients who drove over one hour to see me." It was never explained to us the appointment window meant having to wait an hour with our dog, with an IV in her arm. Several days after the procedure, I emailed owner Dr. Kelly Baete and asked to speak with her in-person so I could provide the details of our experience with Dr. Mauck and Julie. In her response, she wrote she would be available for a phone consultation. I questioned why she did not wish to meet, and explained that it would also allow me the opportunity to apologize to a technician I was rude to. Nearly two weeks later after the exchange, I received this response from Baete: "I would prefer to speak to you by phone if possible because my schedule at the office tends to be pretty tight with my current patient care load. You can also feel free to speak to my office manager..." Areas for improvement for Baxter to consider: · If you are euthanizing a pet, that client should be your priority · If you feel that individuals will be reluctant to pay post-service, consider collecting payment prior to arrival, and not during the euthanasia appointment · Your relationship with your patrons should be like that of a doctor. You are also in the Customer Service business. If feedback is being offered, be receptive so you can improve upon your practice and its processes. read more

Don't return calls even after 24HRs. Then ask for an appointment and told they would squeeze me in, but gave no range of time. So I could have waited through the doctors " personal appointment " and lunch plus whenever he could squeeze me in..at closing???. I feel they price gouge horribly. A specific test of yearly lab work came back clotted so was asked to return for another test on that specific result and was charged for the retest after this was a lab error. Nail grinding costs 37.00. You can get this done at Petsmart for 20. Assistant manager would not listen on the phone to my concerns of prices. Stated, "I'm sorry, we have a bad connection. I have never met a vet that wasn't great with my pets, but I have rarely seen a vet clinic run effectively and efficiently. Baxter vet is an incredibly well run operation. They have available Saturday hours, follow-up reminders, prompt greetings when you arrive, and clear communication before, during and after care. They have also been very empathetic with us regarding the challenges of our 13 year old, crotchety dog. The pricing is right in line with expectations and additional products or services are offered by not pushed. It is obvious a lot of time and energy has been spent on processes and training, and it shows. read more

I'm highly disappointed with this vet ! I have been taking my dogs here for quite some years. For their regular visit shots everything was fine. Until I took my dog in on a Friday , she was feeling down & Ill. I quite wasn't 100% sure if she was pregnant or not. Her behavior was abnormal so I took her in they did an ultrasound, 3 X-rays , & still no answers. At last before she left they blood work . Letting me know by Monday we should have an answer. Monday got here I called them in the morning to see their result ! Still no answers $500 later all this work & im still in the grey zone let her know how she's doing how she's acting what should I do oh no let's give it time . That same day in the evening I had to rush her in the Er for them to let me know right away what she had putting her in critical conditions $4,000 laters & her health being bad. Called the vet today in the morning wanted to speak to a doctor or manager . Let me know to wait for lunch time ... so the doctor Crovesi can go over her record before speaking to me I ask for a manager wasn't able to get no one. For an explanation in where the ball was dropped at !! Deff disappointed in letting my dog be high risk I would of had more respect if they did could be upfront & let me know to get a second opinion but I trusted them ! read more

One of the worst experiences I have ever had with a Veterinary office. Horrible and disappointing vet tech customer service from "Hailey". Your pet is just a number and there is zero compassion or empathy from this facility in regards to your pet. It also takes multiple attempts to have a concern addressed (3 call backs on same day later with not resolve) and even then it is bypassed and we were told our dog would have to suffer through her tooth pain until 4 days later when an appt was available. Unacceptable. Was told I'd also get a call from "Tabitha" the office manager but days have passed and still zero communication. If you want a good practice Go to Mill Town Pets in Fort Mill where they actually care and are compassionate and have a real connection with your pet. What a disgrace Baxter Vet. From the short visit that I had here today they were very friendly. I had two puppies show up at my parents house so I took them here to get micro-chipped. They were more than happy to do this for me. They also let me purchase some flea medicine to get rid of the fleas that they have. I will be bringing my pets here in the future. The prices are a little bit high but if you get great service and you know your pet is in great hands you know it will be worth it! On another note, the facility was very very clean. Having just moved here I needed to get my geriatric cat a yearly ultrasound. Just walking into this clinic I received attitude from the receptionist, which turned me off off to this place right away. After speaking with the Doctor I was completely done with this place. I have been in the Veterinary field for 20 years and made them well aware. I was spoken down to several times and there was absolutely no professional courtesy what so ever. They also tried to up sell unnecessary products. That said, my first real experience with Baxter Vet was absolutely outstanding! A client of mine had a Boxer mix that has eye surgery only a couple days before the owner went to Europe for the month and I cared for her dog. I was a little concerned regarding some eye discharge and contacted them as they were my client's veterinarian. They instructed me to email photos and such and within less than an hour I received detailed instructions for his care and worked out beautifully! I am getting many new to the area clients that haven't even had a chance to shop for vets and I'm often asked if I had any recommendations. From the first visit I felt immediately comfortable with the professional care given to my 8 year old rescue/adopted pit bull. We see Dr. Carroll regularly, she's always patient, informative, and thorough. During an early detection of bladder cancer (due to Dr. Carroll's test recommendations) she also referred me to an oncologist whose care I feel equally comfortable with. Mabel (my dog) and I are always greeted with smiles by the staff at the front desk and the veterinary techs give her hugs as they see her, asking how she is. The office and exam rooms are consistently clean and orderly and I've never felt I had to pay for something that wasn't necessary. I feel very fortunate to have found Baxter Village and Dr. Carroll after having moved into the area a year and a half ago and highly recommend them to anyone. read more

We can't say enough about the wonderful experience we had at Baxter Veterinary Clinic. Our usual vet wasn't able to see our 7-year-old male German Shepherd for an infected paw until after the New Year (4 days away). We called BVC, they fit us in that Saturday morning and took us back to be seen within five minutes of arriving. The facility was inviting & cozy, the staff was helpful & friendly and Dr. Mauck was extremely thorough. Our pup is usually pretty anxious at the vet but he seemed at ease with Dr. Mauck and the techs. We were pleasantly surprised by the affordable pricing, as well. I have a feeling we'll be switching our pup's care to BVC in the near future! read more

We brought our cat and dog here, and have left to pursue care under a vet that will not try to sell unnecessary follow ups, tests and treatments. Customer service was terrible. When promised a call back on our dogs initial cancer diagnose, we did not get an answer after two calls. On the third day I called again and finally got an answer. I was told it was miscommunication, while the fact of the matter was that the Dr. had committed to look at the biopsy in office while the 2nd biopsy was being sent to the lab. No one should have to wait to find out their dog is dying when a promise was made to callback the same day. Additionally, when we were constantly hounded for follow up visits that were not necessary. Our new vet took our cat off $50 cat food and provided us with a more effective and cheaper option. Baxter Vet. Clinic was our worst vet. experience in over 30 years of pet ownership. read more

We have a rescue who is very scared of people and especially men. Baxter Vet Clinic knows this and always gives us a female technician and female doctor to bring down the anxiety of our sweet pup. We have moved thirty minutes away from Baxter and we still bring our dog here because of their care and love for our dog. read more

I took my dog in for surgery and less than 12 hours later she's dead. Now granted she was an old dog and if she'd died a month later I wouldn't be posting this. But AT NO TIME was I told "she's elderly, she might not survive this". But then why would they warn me? Then I might not ok the surgery and they don't collect $800. They did refund half of that. How kind of them after killing my dog. DO NOT USE THIS VET!! I was looking for another vet anyway cause of Baxter's outrageous fees but needless to say this seals it. Our fur family moved from Charlotte to Fort Mill. We were referred to Baxter Veterinary Clinic. We couldn't be happier. The kids get prompt response and excellent care. We lost one of our three at an emergency overnight hospital the other day at 3:00am. By 9:00a that morning I received a call from one of the team members at Baxter expressing condolences. I'm new to the area and so happy I finally found a vet I'm comfortable with! I've taken my dogs to previous hospitals down here that I just wasn't happy with. Yes, I'm a crazy dog mom and a bit high maintenance when it comes to my dogs, but I don't see that as a bad thing lol! I'm a vet tech and my previous place of employment was fear free, so I knew I wanted to find a fear free hospital down here to take my dogs to. The entire experience from the moment I walked through the door to when it was time to pay was an absolute pleasure. The front desk staff was friendly and they all greeted me with a smile on their face. They also loved on my dog and he loved every minute! I was placed in an exam room right away which was awesome since my dog gets so excited to meet new people and other dogs. The technician came in shortly after to get a complete medical history. She was so great with my boy. She loved on him and gave him treats while she got his history. He absolutely loved her! The doctor came in a few minutes later. I was very pleased with her exam. My dog has a pretty complex history and has a lot of issues. She read through his records prior to us arriving and already knew a lot about his previous medical history. She did a very thorough exam and even got down on his level to make sure he was happy and comfortable. She discussed everything in depth with me and answered my questions. Hands down the best Bet Office EVER!! So lucky we found them when we moved from California. Our pups are a part of our family and very important to us. We are always treated with a smile when we walk in or a friendly voice on the phone. No matter watt we have come in for all of our concerns were addressed, and we felt we were given amazing service. I unfortunately had to say goodbye to my best friend earlier this year and all the girls and Docs at Baxter Vet made it as easy as possible. I took my 12 yr old Chihuahua in when she had a fever. She had a basic check up, rabies shot ( I asked if that could be delayed since she was not well) they said no "it's the law." Her urine was checked at my request. It was suggested she be spayed. Second, possible Thyroid problems I didn't see this until later due to the small print, and I received a lengthy description of Pyometra, pics, and cost. My dog didn't have any symptoms of Pyometra. I did make several calls to the clinic for several weeks putting off the spay. NEVER did the clinic mention treating her for Thyroid. She had been on Clavamox antibiotic. I wish I had never gone to this vet. My dog has gone down hill. I got the spay done elsewhere by a young male vet who didn't even talk at the check up except he commented on her bones around her eyes. I mentioned she had lost weight while on the antibiotic and not eating, So this is the 3rd vet to suggest I spay my dog at age 12. She could have died from age, small size and the sedative, but I was never told this. I discovered this online. So why are they suggesting I spay her with the risks involved? She is still with me but not too mobile and eats but is skin and bone. I wish the vet had focused on the Thyroid matter first. The blood test came from Spay Neuter. On the blood panel it said young female so I don't know for sure that was her blood test. That's three vets all agreeing to spay a 12 year old small elderly dog. Being new in town and looking for a regular vet, I brought both my dogs here on separate occasions. Pro: -When I took my dog in to get treatment for a simple hot spot, Dr. Baete and her vet tech were kind and prescribed a topical spray that cleared up the hot spot quickly. Cons: -We were told to schedule a follow-up visit for the hot spot, which from experience I know is a bit excessive, as my previous vet would have been just fine picking up the phone to check on my dog rather than charge me for another visit. I have no problem paying for treatments (and my bank account can testify to that) but I also know that a good vet isn't going to charge me every time I want to talk to them. -When I took my arthritic dog to see Dr. Doyle, I didn't feel like he had anything new or helpful to offer. The whole appointment felt a bit rushed, and I felt he was very quick to speak on testing done by my dog's previous vets. Having tried at least four distinct treatment plans for my dog's arthritis over the last year, Dr. Doyle simply told me that they are all good ideas, and we started again at square one with Rimadyl. My dog had an adverse reaction to the drug within a few weeks, so I discontinued treatment and sought care at another vet. -They must have some deal with Trupanion, a pet insurance company, because in the month after my first visit I received several calls and emails from Trupanion. It was really annoying because to try to call them back and ask them to stop calling took a lot of time. I was never asked if I was okay with my info being given to this company. It wasn't so much my dog's adverse reaction that turned me off to this practice, as I know that the vet cannot guarantee how the drug is going to affect my dog. Ultimately, it was just the rushed and seemingly thoughtless care for a problem that we have clearly been working hard to find a solution to. I was looking for a vet who would listen, be careful in judgment and be willing to answer all my questions. I don't think that's too much to ask for, as I have found this kind of care elsewhere. Overall, my experience with and impression of Baxter is that it is competent practice but they failed to really wow me. On the other hand, the new vet we see is over-the-top amazing, and that's what I was looking for. read more
