I simply don't know how I managed before I got my blue checked table cloth and napkins. What was I thinking? This is the kind of place where you buy yourself the occasional treat and get gifts for Christmas and birthdays. Mostly for ladies it has to be said, unless you know any men with a taste for matching table linen. And lucky you, as they sound like fun. The costume jewellery is also worth a mention - lots of chunky silver(ish) necklaces and bracelets at reasonable prices - around £30 for a long chunky necklace. There's a café upstairs which is on my list of places to go. I didn't make it upstairs on my last visit but the smells wafting downstairs were enough to convince me that it's gonna be good!

The shop is clean and bright and sells some new goods as well as the donated goods. If you have kids who like to read, it is always worth checking their shelves or if you are a reader too, then take a browse. Most books are in very good, near new condition and reasonably priced. And just think, your purchase will not just bring you enjoyment, it will help others too. What a feel good factor!

But not so full that you can't actually see each thing. They have particularly nice pieces for a child's room which is done in a nautical style. Things like bleached out coloured wooden boats and signs saying 'gone fishing'. I also love the scented candles and have just bought a fig and mint one which smells good enough to eat. They come in lovely tins for £7 and are the perfect treat for yourself or a gift for someone else. The napkin holders and napkins are fab too and are next on my list. I have also bought some lovely wooden heart decorations for the kitchen. They also do larger pieces of beautiful painted wooden furniture. Big chunky pieces with big chunky prices to match. You can also buy some lovely Cath Kidston trinkets to put on your new furniture. Ideally you should go alone to a Broader Picture. Kids will flail about dying of boredom and men will simply have no comprehension of why you would want to spend 20 minutes in there.

And then I realise that I am married with children so indeed already a grown up but sadly without the budget to buy all my clothes from Stone. It's a beautiful shop with high end pieces so prices are also high which means that I have to be content with little bits like flip flops and t shirts from here. Stone is beautifully laid out and well stocked with Custo, Almost Famous and lots of other smaller but equally fabulous labels. It's the kind of place you would get an outfit for a wedding or a really special occasion. Tops range from £50 - £150 and dresses are up to £200 so your eyes will water at both the fabulousness of the clothes and the prices. The clothes really are gorgeous though and they look very expensive which is reassuring. Stone also sticks fab costumes jewellery which happily is much more affordable.

It is a gorgeous shop though that sells high end designer fashion, it's perfect for the people who holiday up here with that little bit more money. The most I've ever been able to afford from here was a pair of earrings, they were pilgrim and oh they're so pretty! Stone is the sort of shop you might go to for graduation wear or maybe formal attire but for the most of us who can't afford the luxuries of designer clothing every day at least we get to look at all the pretty clothing. Moores is a traditional kind of small department store which has successfully managed to move with…read morethe times. It still retains the genteel air of an older department store, with plenty of clothes that only men and women of a certain age would wear. However, there is also lots of fashion and homewares which young and young at heart shoppers will love. There's everything from make up - Clarins and Clinique - to Canterbury rugby gear; funky costume jewellery to beautiful scented candles. Moores also has an Accessorise and Monsoon concession, a toy shop and a lovely café. The café sells only home made food that tastes how it should do and is always very busy so you might find a bit of a queue. On the top floor are kids clothes and also a toy shop which is well stocked with lego, dolls, games and jigsaws. So you can always bribe the kids with a pocket money price toy if they behave while you browse on the other two floors. They have also recently opened a Bear Factory where you can create your own bear. You can see the stuffing being churned around inside a big machine, which I find a little freaky but the kids love it.

During sale time you can pick up lots of bargains, with most basic items being priced at £1 or under, with t-shirts sometimes costing you 25p! Great news in a poor economic climate eh?
