First time staying at a YMCA and for around $30/person for a 2 person private room, it's honestly not that bad even though it looks a little bit like a jail cell especially with the faucet which looks a little rough. The beds were pretty good though and lots of lighting and power outlets which I very much appreciate and enjoy. Also the bathrooms were very clean and very convenient, it is literally a 10-15 second walk away from the rooms. The reason for the 3-star though is that the walls are way too thin, not only between rooms but also facing the outside too. Every time someone was walking up and down the staircase and the hallways, you can hear them and also if they were outside talking to. So I've got to say, not the best night of sleep I've ever gotten. Also, they don't give you a towel so be mindful of that. Other than that, not a bad experience for Bath YMCA but I would be cognisant of that going forwards. read more

I spent two nights here in late August while I was taking a quick trip through England with a friend of mine. The Good: The location is very close to the Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths, the two main attractions in Bath. Still, we were fairly far away from the bus and train stations, so that was annoying (especially with a broken suitcase handle). The breakfast that was included was good and enough to fill us up for the day. The rooms were fairly sound proof and were cleaned and well maintained. We were far enough away from downtown Bath that the nights were nice and quiet. The Bad: I don't like having to pay to rent towels, but it was only a pound per towel so it wasn't the end of the world. Also, they didn't have an elevator, but I am starting to get the impression that that is the norm in the UK. The Ugly: Nothing in particular. read more

We were very pleased with the hostel- 4 bedroom private room. Simple and clean, and only a few doors down from the shared bathroom. The WiFi from the lobby even reached our room- a huge win. The hostel was a little noisy at times during the night, but given the excellent location, price, and quality of accommodations, I would highly recommend. An added bonus is that the Hilton is just next door and costs 5x what we paid at the Y. read more

This city is…read morea perfect place to go rummaging for a bargain in a charity shop, as the generous (and most likely wealthy) ladies and gents often donate their barely worn designer names to goodwill. Tucked away down Green Street, it often goes unnoticed by the general throng of shoppers but make sure you pay it a visit. The volunteers are friendly and helpful, and always up for a chinwag. Not only is there a great range of clothes and accessories on sale here, but also a good selection of books and music too. Don't forget - whatever you buy here will go to a superb cause. Their window displays are always well thought out and attractive. My favourite time of year to walk past BHF is Valentine's Day, when people have paid to put their declarations of love in the window. Aww. Nice.

This may sound a bit cheap of me, but I'll guarantee one walk around Oxfam on George Street and you'll feel the same well. Well organised, with fantastic donations, Oxfam is one of my favourite charity shops in Bath. I once bought a Reiss shirt for £8 - lovely! Their bric-a-brac and music selection is equally as good here. Not only a great cause, but a perfect place to bag a bargain.

Not only a great charity shop, if you love to have a rummage, but the best place in Bath to find…read moreout what's going on in the city. The windows of this shop is literally filled with flyers, wanted ads and offers ranging from club listings to 'one broken bike needs loving owner'. The streets outside the shop are normally busier inside with onlookers trying to find the best thing in town. My favourite discovery I found in this window was a dress making course at a local community centre. As for the shop itself, it is quite a traditional charity shop - a real mish-mash of clothes, bric-a-brac and LPs. Probably not the best place to find a gem, but it only seems fair to pop in after gawping at it's window for half an hour.
