Basics is anything but basic- they have a lovely selection of "every day" bras and underwear as well as things that are a little fancier for the times when you want to mix it up. I happened to be in the market for a strapless bra, and Basics had a lot of options. The staff was helpful and friendly, and although I haven't purchased anything yet, I will be back when I am ready to make my move. In the adjoining room they have a fantastic selection of swim and workout wear that is sure to make anyone feel fancy on their next trip to the gym. The first thing that hits you when you walk in is this absolutely divine smell of orange blossoms and jasmine. Every time I've arrived, I just wanted to stay and keep on breathing in the glorious fragrance... and of course browse the unmentionables! Basics Underneath is a rather plain name that belies the fact that there's an excellent selection of brands, styles and sizes, from simple Calvin Klein sporty deals to lacy racy numbers. Hardly "basic"! My all time favorite lingerie is made by Huit, not always easy to find, but once I find a store that does carry it, I'm a customer for life. This is the *only* bra that no matter what, fits me perfectly, is comfortable and gorgeous too. I know every luxe-loving lady out there is all about La Perla, but I have bought their bras, easily 2-3 times the price of Huit, but I was never completely in love with any of them the way I am with Huit. So, finding the perfect bra for only 75-90 dollars? Yes, please. I appreciate that the sales ladies are there to help you... *if you need them* I stress that because there's nothing worse than having an overbearing saleslady begging to help you find your size, measure you etc (which is why I stopped shopping in Victoria's Secret ages ago, not to mention their bras suck). Speaking of size, I don't think I've ever been in a store that had so many bras in unusual sizes, some I had never seen before in a pretty style you would expect to find them in. I was professionally fitted years ago (I was already wearing the right size, less common than you think). However, I recently lost weight. I thought I just needed new lingerie, but NO, my size had changed (went down a band size, up a cup size). I was shocked. The ladies at Basics Underneath worked with me to find a "bra wardrobe," new bras for a variety of purposes & in several colors, all in my correct size. They will not let you leave with an improperly fitting bra. Also, not every style within your size will work for you; they will work to find the ones that fit and look best. The level of customer service at this store is outstanding. Basics Underneath also carries a variety of Spanx items, including swimwear (who knew?). Gentlemen, you can pay attention now. A staff member walked in on me in the dressing room and instead of apologizing and quickly leaving she stood there with the curtain open and explained that I was in someone else's room. The ladies at Basics Underneath are so incredibly helpful and made the experience all the better. Through this amazing little shop and the genial workers, I was able to find the PERFECT bra! My two favorite bras are from Basics Underneath and I swear, they are my favorite because they actually fit! I agree 100% with Susan W., they will not let you leave with an ill-fitting bra. The owner helped me on my first visit, and another salesperson on my second. They both had a highly trained eye for fit, and were quick to point out where certain bras just weren't fitting. I'm grateful to have discovered my true size, and I'm unlikely to shop for bras anywhere else in the foreseeable future. A note on price: even though the bras are a few bucks more than if you went to the mall, I can really see the savings in having two or three really nicely fitted bras you can wear with everything, instead of dozens of wrong-size bras that can each only be worn with certain clothing items. The staff also seemed happy to help me find bras on the more affordable end of their scale. Most importantly, both times when I went in for one bra, I didn't feel pressured to leave with a whole sack 'o' lingere... the sales clerks remained focused on the task at hand--finding a workable bra within my specifications. read more

I have bought all of my bras here for years. I recently spent quite a bit of money at the shop and returned a few days later to return a bra that I wore for a total of two hours, because it was so uncomfortable it left a welt on my side. The shop refused to take it back even though I had the receipt and the tags and it had only been worn very briefly. It was an interesting shopping experience. The ladies have no problem getting up front and personal. This is not a place for shy ladies to go. They seem really dedicated to helping you find something you'll love. I purchased something I thought I would love then after an hour of wearing it, the fabric irritated my skin to the point of rash. Unfortunately, they do not have a return policy. I should have asked when I purchased, but I assumed incorrectly. Their website also has very little helpful information (like hours). I went in with a couple requests, and they found me exactly what I wanted! The staff was so nice and helpful, making sure each bra fit, and giving feedback. Don't be shy, they're not judging you! They want to make sure it fits properly! The bra I ultimately chose was a little bit pricier than I originally planned to spend, but I just kept coming back to it. I have always loved this store, everyone is so helpful, and they have a lot of different styles. I had a problem with a bra that I purchased, and they were so nice to offer to fix it or take it back. I went here the other day looking for a bra for a special occasion and had the best bra shopping experience of my life. Like I actually left feeling really good about myself...which I don't think has ever happened. The staff was so helpful! She listened to what I was looking for and picked out a bunch of beautiful options for me then made sure I was getting the right size. She was super positive and kept telling me how good I looked - and who doesn't love that? The selection was amazing - so many gorgeous options. I went to get a swim suit and I told the lady helping me that I wore a 38D which was what I was told at victoria secret about a year ago. She looked at me and immediately said you are not a 38D I can look at your rib cage and tell. After I bought my swimsuit in the correct size I went across the street and got fitted for a bra. My correct size is a 34DDD and oh my god what a difference! I am 23 years old and there is no way I should hate bras the way I do but now with the correct fit I am extremely comfy all day without the urge to rip my bra off as soon as I walk in my door. The staff are extremely helpful and sweet. They go the extra mile to make sure your fit is correct and I have no regrets visiting this shop. They are on the expensive side so be prepared to make an investment but for something you want to be comfy in everyday it is well worth it. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'm a local and have shopped here for all my bras; however, after my most recent experience I will not be returning. The whole gimmick at the store is to sell you expensive bras based on the fact that you have been buying the wrong size your whole life at big box stores. So I'm a 32C at most normal places and they tell me those places are wrong and I'm REALLY a 30E. Since only high end expensive bras come in this obscure size.... Anyway, that was actually fine with me up until now because the store is close and I usually buy high end brand names anyway. The last time I went in, they measured me and brought a bra to the fitting room. I immediately told them it was too tight but she assured me with the straps adjusted it was the right size. I said ok since it was better with straps adjusted but should have stuck with my first instinct. I got home and after wearing it 15 minutes realized that it was way too tight. I brought it back the next day and was told there was absolutely no possibility for exchange since it was on sale. I would have even take a lesser store credit - anything since I will never wear the $55 bra that I bought one day ago (that was the sale price btw). I didn't even pick the bra off the rack and was NEVER told it was a final sale. Needless to say, I won't be going back. You would think they would treat loyal customers better but it seems not. read more

Purchased a bra ,was accidently sold the incorrect size (of the two identical bra's) I TRUSTED I was sold the correct bra. I became aware of the transgression when I put the bra on, and it rode up my back (do to it being ill fitting.) I tried to return the bra immedietly (put it on ,and took it off never went anywhere with it on) for the correct one. I was told because I removed the tag (because I TRUSTED I went home with the correct bra after spending plenty of time there) I could not exchange the bra. It was the stores mistake, I paid twice. They care more about taking a numbers loss then losing a customer. They preferred I take the loss, than do the right thing. I was highly excited to find them because I loved them more than the quality store I had been purchasing bras from till date. Incredible service. I was in there & the girl attending was by herself & trying to help 3 different clients, so I had to wait for her attention for about 15 minutes, but totally worth the wait! She measured me & told me I have been wearing the wrong size bra & immediately got me fitted into supportive bras that have changed my life. The employees and owners are nice enough, though the salespeople must not be as knowledgeable as they project themselves to be if they sent me home with the bra they sold me. An $80 strapless for my wedding, they clearly brought me the most expensive option and I trusted their "expert" opinions. After wearing it once, the bra crumpled and developed terrible creases. When I brought it back, the manager (owner?) refused to give me full credit for the now-useless bra, because it had been worn. If I hadn't worn it, I never would have discovered the problem until my wedding day. The only reason I'm not livid about this experience is because this didn't happen. The manager told me that the bra was not the correct shape for my breasts. You would think that the people fitting me would have taken this into account. She did exchange the bra for one that cost $30 less, so that money may as well have been flushed down the toilet. She also lost all of my subsequent business, which is a shame, because I had noted a few items I wanted to come back for. As a new mother, I need a new set of bras; I suppose I'll find them elsewhere. This really comes down to "buyer beware": beware of anybody who's trying to sell you something. Jeeze, I just love this place. Seriously. I needed a strapless bra which I was dreading to buy even from my favorite lingerie store but they did it again! Peggy, the bra specialist (because the people who work here are beyond sales associates, I'm convinced they have degrees in lingerie) greeted me the minute I walked in the door and asked if I needed help. Ohhhh yes, Peggy, I need help! She looked up my size on the computer (because they have a file on me with all my past purchases and items I like - RIGHT?! I love this place!!) and found the PERFECT bra for only $65! It has straps that can be removed or converted into different ways, which she showed me how to do!! The price point is comparable to VS but actually made in my size from a cute & local boutique store with excellent customer service! Truly, such a great experience! I never go out of my way to write reviews, but the customer service I experienced here was so awful I had to say something. I came into the store this weekend looking for a bra, something I struggle with due to deeply seeded self esteem issues. I was expecting professionalism and respect and instead I was ignored. My insecurities were not taken into consideration when I asked for help but rather, blasted on display. The woman working behind the counter acted as if I didn't belong there after I was unresponsive to her pushy attitude and as a result, exposed the company's true motives. WILL NOT EVER SHOP HERE AGAIN! I went to this store for the first time yesterday looking for a cute 2 piece for a photoshoot. Upon entering I heard one employee speaking to a customer in what I thought was kind of rude manner, I let it go, I was distracted by my shopping. A few minutes later I was approached by an employee to see if I needed assistance. She ask me what I was looking for, she just asked my bra size and started grabbing pieces. She was grabbing things I wasn't even looking for so I told her (so she didn't waste her & my time) & she still didn't listen. She was pushy & not paying attention to my wants/needs. She walked to another section of bras where she tried to talk me into a bra, I told her no, that it wouldn't fit me. She continued to try & push the same piece on me, I declined AGAIN. She even STILL tried to tell me about that same bra somehow thinking she was going to convince me. I tried to tell her no again, her exact words, while GRABBING MY ARM & interrupting me were "If you would just stop & listen to me, I know what i'm talking about, I do this all the time." I had to politely & as calmly as I could tell her that since she "knew so much" that I had to leave because I clearly couldn't be helped here. On my way out the other employee had apologized but the damage was already done. I had read the reviews before going & that's what convinced me that I should shop here. Yes the place smells nice, yes they have a nice selection but all that is taken away by the attitude of the employees. I know this is a long rant but moral of the story is: don't go here unless you want piss poor service from a snob who thinks she knows everything and more about your body size than you because she works at a bra store. Especially considering I had at least 2 $95 bras in my hand, not including the bottoms I would be getting. A wonderful little store near the Whole Foods on Magazine St. They have exactly what the name suggests - basic bras and underwear, some hose/tights and shapewear (Spanx, etc.), and some swim suits. What I love is their attention to fitting you *just right* and the range of sizes. For us well-endowed women, it can be difficult to get a good fit in a bra that is pretty. Now, the bras aren't lacy, sexy things but they aren't Sears circa 1958 either.
