For those looking into going back to school or for first timers, look no further Nevada State is…read moredefinitely the school to go to. After being out of school nearly for 8 years, I finally went back. Although, I chose this school as my top choice after doing extensive research, I found out that NSU was number one for nursing. Even if you are not going for nursing, I definitely would recommend NSU for several reasons. The biggest thing that I have learned about attending college campuses is to make it enjoyable, yet having students want to come to school. I just literally hit my first year attending as a transfer, and the professors and advisors want to see you succeed. Compared to other colleges that I have attended, NSU has that support you need. No matter what subject you're taking, all the professors try and help you pass. No matter how hard the subject is. While the professors give you all the resources to pass. You also have your advisors who do not sugar coat. They honestly tell you the truth of what you can and cannot handle. If you are looking for a school that is not just all around academically, but you want affordability this campus is cheaper than attending private or even out of state. Best part is, classes are smaller and they put a cap on classes, especially that have lab as well as the co-requisite.From experience, the smaller class size allows you to learn, know your peers and have that one to one more with the professor. Parking is also free.so for those that live far, definitely a school to attend.

Extremely frustrating and disappointing experience with Nevada State College…read more My advisor instructed me to reach out directly to the department head to ask whether I could take History 251 and History 499 concurrently. I did exactly that, and the department head approved the request. Based on that approval, I planned my schedule and attempted to enroll. When enrollment opened, I was suddenly blocked from registering and told I needed to submit a petition. After jumping through multiple hoops, the petition was denied. I then appealed the decision, and that appeal was also denied by the "dean." It is very hard to believe my appeal was actually reviewed. It is completely unacceptable for a student to receive direct approval from a department head, only to have it taken away later. This directly affects graduation timelines, finances, and stress levels. If I weren't so close to graduating, I would seriously consider transferring to another school. This college is becoming increasingly expensive, and many students are simply trying to finish their degree and move on. Nevada State needs to do better at honoring approvals and supporting students instead of creating unnecessary barriers.

With that being said, from what I understand, some of your doctor or nurse practitioner visits may include a student that shadows the professional. The nurse practitioner that I saw, I got the OK because my girlfriend has been coming her for a couple years. So I don't know who here is or is not accepting new patients at this time. I can tell you that I got the most thorough initial evaluation with all my questions answered, and no rush at all, which is an oddity in today's medical world. The facility itself in the areas that I saw were very clean and everybody was extremely friendly. I truly look forward to our next visit.

The day prior to the appointment, I received a confirmation call requesting that I arrive 30 minutes early for my 8am appointment. Unfortunately, I already had a meeting scheduled from 6:30am - 7:30am so I could not do this. I arrived for my appointment at 7:55am. I am already an established patient of the clinic and my insurance had not changed, so there was no need for me to fill out forms or do any insurance updates. I was turned away from my appointment that I had arrived ON TIME for, because I didn't arrive 30 minutes early, after waiting to be seen for 3 weeks, with an issue involving pain. I even explained to the front desk that I AM A HEALTH CARE PROVIDER who owns/runs my own primary care practice and I had blocked off time on my schedule specifically for this appointment, and thus, did not have any time available within the next 3 weeks to reschedule because I have my own patients to care for. Still- no exceptions, or accommodations were made. As a business owner AND a medical clinic owner- I am foremost to understand why certain policies and procedures are set in place for an office to function smoothly. HOWEVER- I also know when to be flexible, accommodating, and when I can make exceptions from time to time. Given the fact that the office staff failed to clarify at the time the appointment was book that I was expected to arrive 30 minutes early, AND the fact that I had already waited 3 weeks for the appointment AND the fact that I am in pain... I feel that it would have been reasonable to make an exception to the rule. I will not be returning to Touro University for care, nor referring any of my primary care patients here if this is how patients are handled. I'd rather pay out of pocket and go somewhere that I am treated, firstly, as a human- and then a "customer".

I think UNLV will continue to ascend as a respected university. One big detraction is the airplane noise, especially the overnight take offs and landings. It is hard to get 8 hours sleep no matter when you go to bed. There are loud takeoffs and landings from 11:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and then again starting around 5:30 a.m., with nonstop takeoffs from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. The UNLV Administration should ask the FAA and LAS to restrict use of the North runway during sleeping hours. The planes should use the main East/West runways which are mostly over industrial areas during this time. Being jarred awake on campus by airplanes during sleeping hours is a deal breaker for many people. Its one thing to tolerate it during the daytime, but when it interferes with sleeping, its not something that many can adapt to. The school should tape the airplane noise during these overnight hours and present this to the FAA and Clark County Commissioners, if necessary. Let the decibels and times of day speak for themselves. Interrupting the sleep of thousands of residents for the sake of cutting a few minutes of flight time is not a fair tradeoff.

We especially loved the library and the book store. (The walk from the strip wasn't terrible either... area between strip and here is a bit sketch though). Unfortunately, the UNLV degree he graduated with is not being used... not saying college isn't worthwhile, but perhaps a little more guidance would have been helpful. (Not like I can say anything, I have a useless Bachelor's degree as well.) I wish I could add more but my husband really loved his experience here at UNLV.

Throughout my time here, I witnessed many positive changes that directly benefited students and enhanced our learning experience. The faculty has been incredibly supportive, advocating for students' concerns while maintaining transparency and accountability. They provided the necessary resources for those willing to take initiative in their education and seek help when needed. Dean Green, in particular, actively listened to our feedback as nursing students and implemented meaningful changes that improved the program. The instructors were dedicated to our success, guiding us through complex nursing concepts and ensuring we were well-prepared for clinical practice. Hands-on experience in both the skills lab and clinical rotations was invaluable, allowing us to apply what we learned in real-world healthcare settings. These experiences truly reinforced our critical thinking and patient care skills. Overall, my time here was a transformative journey, and I am grateful for the education, mentorship, and hands-on experiences that have prepared me to begin my career as a nurse. For students who are committed to their success, this program provides the tools and support needed to excel. I've made long-lasting relationships with faculty, and students from different terms and programs and look forward to staying in touch :)
