I've had two haircuts here. One with Leo and one with Kyle. Made appointments for both. Both were excellent haircuts. Very professional. I will definitely go back. read more

Made an appointment here, showed up 5 mins early. Waited 45 minutes to leave without a haircut enough said.

Always friendly. Always a great haircut. I usually get a straight razor shave which they do well. Maybe three hot towels (and light head and face massage), good shave, moisturizer, then cold towel to finish. Very relaxing and refreshing. Tip these guys well! read more

Basement Barbers - Barbers Near Me - North Reading, Massachusetts

Very disappointed in this place. I wanted to get my beard trimmed for my wedding shower this weekend. I heard mixed reviews on Basement Barbers. I had called around 9 AM to see if they had any availabilities around 10 AM. The guy said no and basically just hung up. I contacted a friend and he told me I had to book an appointment on Booksy.com. So after the first bad customer service experience I tried to give them another shot. I booked it for later that afternoon. After a few hours went by I noticed that my appointment was still unconfirmed so I decided to call to see if it was confirmed or not. The guy told me he'll call me back in 10 minutes. Right before he decided to hang up I asked him if he needed my number call her when she then said yes and I gave it to him. I never heard back so obviously this business does not need any new customers. read more

When I moved to North Reading, I was traveling back and forth to my home town Worcester for a haircut 2-3 times a month because I couldn't find a legit barbershop around North Reading. After Yelping and then IG, I founded this place. Decided to do a search on IG and founded Tyler. Watched his videos and was amazed by his work. I decided to book an appointment with him on a Friday morning. When I first arrived, I was greeted by Tyler and was seated right away. Told him what I wanted and not did he only cut my hair the way that I wanted but did an awesome job! I think I have founded my new barber. Overall experience, Tyler is a must have barber! He was very friendly, outgoing and treated you like he has known you for awhile. His skills are outstanding. He will listen to you and will do an awesome job! Definitely will come back. read more

So another Saturday another disappointment. This would be the day I'd get to the Basement Barbers & receive a haircut. I work until 2:00 every Saturday and drive by the North Reading location. 2:40 I roll into the parking lot, closed...again. Hours on the door say open till 3:00. No biggie, except this isn't the first time. I live in Middleton so I call that location. I ask if they're open until 3:00? 'Yes we are but we're technically closed right now.' So how about this. Don't put concrete times on your website or locations. Maybe change it to 3ish? And, don't answer the phone if your not planning on accepting paying customers. Use your answering machine. This was the 3rd & final time. One star only because I have to. Good day. read more

Awesome barbershop cutting edge and puts the service back in getting a new hair style. I really love the unique feel of the place kind like a college handout but with class. read more

This is a 4.6 star place . # 1 haircut, beard trim . Nice open area neat organized. Barbers are friendly great with the kids. My barber Brandon , took his time , hit the details. I wasn't paying attention watching sports but my hair was cut short before I was asked is this length good. It was a little shorter than I usually have it . But when you are as good looking as me and Tom Brady a bad haircut is not going to have any effect. Seriously Brandon nailed my cut .is a perfect look . It put my wife in a trance , For a little fun and romance ! read more

Hey Alex, This 5 star review is specifically for you bud. I wanted you to know how much we all appreciate you bashing us on yelp. Being your neighbor in business it almost surprises me. We're all sorry we use grilled chicken in a wrap you assumed would be fried. It 100% deserved you throwing the food at one of my staff and accosting them in front other customers. I'm sorry that after the second time you treated my staff in a way that was borderline threatening I asked you not return. As for the OWNERS and other staff at basement barbers all I can say is top notch guys, respectful, considerate and polite all come to mind. Thank you for being great neighbors and customers this past year and merry xmas from all of us next door! read more

My son carved his head slightly with dull kids scissors....Barber JAY had to come to the rescue a week after young 5 Year old drew got a stylish haircut ! The end result of Jay's mater piece is evident ! "good job jay" !!! read more

Conflicted. Like the kid who cuts hair but this place is TORTURE. There is no hustle - they chat with all their friends and with 5 people waiting over an hour just stand around and shoot the...breeze. Customer service is non-existent But for this one kid I would never step foot in there again. After 4 years kind of had my fill of it. read more

I got a pretty lousy haircut. All i wanted was a standard "business" haircut. He also charged me $4 extra dollars over the $16 basic haircut because he had to use scissors. He didn't seem terribly comfortable with them and ended up using the buzzer all around my head anyway. They have a pool table and lots of TVs, but I'll be looking for a new shop. read more

I recently moved to MA and was in need of a good barber shop who could deliver a good fade. I visited a couple and they were pretty good. Ironically, at one of the other barber shops I heard about Basement Barbers. Once located literally in the basement of an office building, the shop recently moved to their new location at 20 Main Street (in the CVS shopping plaza). Anyways, I have to say that this shop is really great. I have had two barbers while there (one of them Jay, who I think is the owner). Both of them were top notch. And the haircuts coming out of the other chairs were just as great. These guys do fades, line ups, shaves, and even designs (if you are into that). While you're waiting for a cut, there are flat screens around (usually on ESPN or a sports game), a pool table for a quick game, and always good music. Price is right too - $15 for a cut and they have some deals too for a cut and a shave. I will be a regular there and I highly recommend the shop to others in the area. read more

An excellent barber shop with great prices and an urban environment. I've had 5 different cuts so far with three different masters. Every time it came out to be exactly what I wanted, with sharp execution, attention to detail and great conversation. I have found me a new trusted barber shop that is a short sweet ride from Andover. I highly recommend Basement Barbers. read more

I am very picky about who cuts my hair as I have been burned plenty of times. Today based on the reviews I decided to give "Basement Barbers" a try and I was very pleased with the results. I went in for a cut and beard trim...at $22 the prices are lower than high-end and fairly competitive with prices in the area. The barber took his time and I never felt rushed even though customers came in after I sat down in the chair. As I said before the results were fantastic...I highly recommend this place...I plan on making this my new regular spot! read more

I'm so conflicted with this review because these guys really do a superb job with haircuts. We've been taking our 3 boys (now 11, 8 and 7) to Basement Barbers for the past 2 years and I've always loved their work - especially on specialty hairstyles and designs, but I'm fed up with the poor customer service and disregard for our time. We had an appointment yesterday that took me 3 days to make because every day that I called this week the guy who does designs (Jay) wasn't in and they couldn't access his calendar (appointments are required for designs so we couldn't just show up). Despite the appointment we ended up waiting 30 minutes anyway because he squeezed someone in and then he told my 7 year old he couldn't do the player numbers he asked for because he had another appointment (not our fault you took us 30 minutes late) Then he charged me $66 for 2 designs even though every single other time we've gone he's charged $50 for 2 designs - talk about capitalizing on the Super Bowl!! I've referred so many friends here for designs but I'm done with it. I've been able to overlook the sometimes inappropriate conversations and music for young ears because I get it, it's a barber shop, but simple customer service is not that tough. Answer the phones when you're scheduled to be open, have a computerized calendar for appointments, and when you have appointments try to actually take the customer somewhat on time. I also noticed after they updated their price sign in the shop that they now supposedly charge $3 for an appointment!!!! If you're not going to hustle and keep the haircut moving (many of these guys stop frequently to chat with each other, answer their phones, talk about the tv programming, etc.) then don't charge for appointments - many of us don't have an hour and a half to wait for a walk-in haircut. I will say if you do have all the time in the world to hang out here, you won't be disappointed with your actual haircut - these are talented guys. Such a shame they can't be on time and have some better customer service. read more

You can't beat this place! Been going for years, never a bad haircut, ever. Real pros.

I can usually count on getting a good haircut. Lately, with the addition of a couple new employees the noise and language has become to much. Yes, it's a barbershop, but that doesn't mean it's ok for the barbers to constantly swear and yell at each other. read more

My son has been getting consistently good hair cuts here for about 2 years. The last two visits have made me realize we need to find a new place. One of the last times we went with my 10 year old son there was some questionable language (I wasn't the only parent with a child there either). I looked past that since I know you can get a quick quality hair cut here. However my most recent visit resulted in us sitting and waiting for more than 30 minutes. A few people came in a had called ahead (note: you can call ahead and get your name on list to bypass the wait). I was ok with the people that were taken ahead of us until one kid walks in and said he "thought" his mother put him on list (they took him) and another mother saying her son had a graduation and they couldn't wait. In all we should have been the next person taken but instead had 4 people go ahead of us. Left without a haircut and in need of a new barber. Bummer... read more

This place only has 2 good barbers the owner is horrilbe lets buddies just come in and step first in line when people have been waiting for a while. Hes rude to his customers and could care less whats going on around him. Just feel bad for the guys who can really cut. Great place if it wasnt such a hang out vs a barber shop read more

That young guy Tyler takes care of me every Friday night by appt. I always get out of work late so he always holds me down with my time slot. I make sure to see him before I hit the city so I can look cute af for the night. read more

New to the area and found Basement Barbers while stopping at a nearby store. My hair was cut by Dave. He and his partner -- who had just gotten done cutting three kids' hair -- were both professional and polite. Dave took his time with my cut and worked with me to make sure it was what I had in mind. I'll definitely go back again. One thing: you guys need a bigger sign! I never would have seen it driving by from the road. read more

This review is for one of my favorite barbershops in the USA. I have been to roughly 20 different barbershops in the last 6 years due to traveling I had to do for business however MA in general has been the main place I live on a regular basis. I have been going to Jay for at least 7 years, since he was in his original spot in North Reading. I am probably in the top tier of pickiness when it comes to haircuts and Jay always goes the extra mile, extremely well versed with the clippers / scissors / straight blade / doesn't matter. Never once have I been uncomfortable in the shop. I know the other owner Brandon as well and he typically cuts my sons hair. I have also had cuts from Kyle / they're all great and super friendly. Cleanliness is also something that's super important in a barbershop and this place is super clean all the time. I read one of the reviews on here that's negative and is clearly made up and most likely from a competitor, too bad people have to make up things about a business that is the furthest from the truth. They're also now open on a Monday which is cool too, been here over 50 times and I've sent over 10 of my friends here as well. The price is great considering you don't have to get two haircuts to get one great one if you know what I mean. No one enjoys waiting to get a haircut and then when it's over regretting that they got one. Super friendly and super awesome shop. -Nathan McCarthy read more

just got my haircut by shawn... i said keep it long up top wheats he do chops most of it off down to less then an inch when it was 3 inches. second i ask for a thick combover line guess what it's so thin you can't even see it. looks like shawn just wants to get home on friday. so will i be going back to basement barbers? yes will i be going to shawn again? NEVER worst hair cut i've ever gotten in my life oh plus to mention the 3 1/2 hour wait not worth it and i recommend if you care about your hair don't go to shawn because he will mess it all up.
