While I appreciate Base Vevey's approach to a less-environmentally impactful hotel, there are some things that worked - and some things that were, well, pretty poor. On the plus side, the rooms are clean, bright, quiet, and well-furnished for an extended-stay type of hotel. The staff were helpful and welcoming. The kitchenette area was equipped with a 4-burner electric stove, half-size oven, half-size fridge, dishwasher, and kitted out with assorted cookware and tableware. On the downside, there's very little space in the bathroom for your toiletries; there's no tissue paper (so unless you have your own, you're using toilet paper); and while admirably providing bulk dispensers for liquid body wash and shampoo, there's no wash cloths provided to lather up with the body wash. (Also, the body wash and shampoo provided refused to lather up - you just didn't get a clean feeling after a shower.) I can live with all this - but the worst was the heating system. The room started out on the warm side for me (about 22.5C or about 73F) and after tossing and turning under the blankets, I went to the thermostat to turn it down a little. I put the setpoint to 20C - unaccountably, it started rising to 23C, then 24C, and then alarmingly, passed the 25C threshold! (that's 77F and counting). After trying repeatedly to reset it back to a lower temp, I gave up, found out how to turn off the heat, and opened the window to cool off (it was about mid-30's to low 40's F outside). This certainly went against their environmentally-conscious credo. A definite fail. read more
