The owner Dawn insulted and mistreated my 11 year old daughter. I brought my daughter with me to the gym and had her sit in the waiting area. I brought her hoping that the kid's boxing class would motivate her to join. To my surprise Dawn kicked her out she expected my kid to wait in the parking lot while enduring 110 degree weather. Her exact words were "Can't you read this gym is for members only.....are you hard of hearing get out." I confronted Dawn about her behavior towards my daughter and she became very defensive. I told her I was canceling my membership and leaving Dawn, being disrespectful yet again said "fine take your dumb kid and get out." At this point I was infuriated and yet Dawn got in my face....lol as if I was going to physically hurt a senior citizen she did come very close. What a shame that Barry's has been around for 40 years and the owner feels entitled to talk down to people. I should have known Dawn, was very curt until I became a member. She even made a comment about her members being mostly lower income Hispanic kids. Maybe, she feels, that her non-for-profit gym is doing us a favor. Listen, as consumers we pay for a service I've been to other boxing gyms in Chicago, L.A, Vegas, Ontario and I have never experienced this treatment. And I'll be an idiot to pay anywhere where my patronage is not appreciated. I don't care if you've had high profile boxers train at your gym it's the everyday member that keeps your gym running. I give 2 stars, because I liked the coaches and the gym has everything needed for training. Maybe, it's time for Dawn.
