This institution only cares about its undergrads and medical programs. Any graduate program outside of that gets barely any support, encouragement or fair treatment. This school is quick to take your money and even faster to treat you as if YOU are the one PRIVILEGED with going there. They don't invest the grant money they receive back into the programs, the faculty will protect its staff before the interest of its student, they will blatantly lie to you in order to diminish your rights as a student. If you are pursing a masters degree only come here to get a high enough GPA to transfer. They will take your money, sanity, and in my case my degree if you are not willing to sacrifice your rights and self respect as a student to fall in line. STAY AWAY FROM BARRY UNIVERSITY. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting the campus of Barry University last week. The property is immaculate and beautiful. I cherish the momemts I spent in the chapel. Everone on campus was warm and helpful. The security gaurd took the time to direct me to the building I needed across campus. I decided to walk instead of moving my car and I'm glad that I did. I enjoyed following the sidewalks to the large open courtyard where the chapel, admissions, and other buildings are located. It seems that Barry does not have that great of a ranking. I'm not sure why that is. If someone were looking for a small campus with low student population, Barry would be a good choice. I was just here to drop something off but would come back to attend an event as the campus is lovely. read more

I hope whoever wants to apply to this institution reads this review first. I completed my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and thoroughly enjoyed the content that was taught. I had an excellent time in internship and expanded my network of clinical therapists. BUT Barry is unorganized, unethical, and a waste of money. I had to constantly follow up with staff at the registrars office to ensure I had credits properly transferred over to Barry to ensure that I would not have to retake any classes. Not to mention, other colleagues have expressed their grievances about how Barry does not transfer credits for undergrads and students have to decide whether they should completely start over at university (literally having wasted their time and money for however long they were at Barry) or continue to deal with the school and their many flaws. I witnessed colleagues go through the program with ZERO guidance because there were supervisors lacked the skills to guide their students through the program. The campus is also old and decrepit. Food on campus is also terrible and the restaurants close early leaving students to leave campus (which is in an unsafe area) or spend copious amounts of money on Uber Eats. I would never recommend anyone to go. It is a poorly run business and does not value students. I would advise students to steer clear and attend either FIU or UM. read more

I graduated back in May of 2018 with a bachelors in mathematics and an associates in computer information science after I transferred from Johnson & Wales University (JWU) for the Spring 2015 term. This school has a very beautiful campus. The residence halls were decent. It also has a really friendly community. The dinning service provider is the same as JWU, Chartwells. However, the dinning service here is in the form of a buffet. The food can be better, but it has its days when food is really good. Almost all the professors are really friendly and willing to help the students out. Overall, the school is nice. There is always room for improvement, which they are willing to listen to feedback. I have been informed from recent students that the room selection process is now different, in the sense of which halls you could pick, than when I was attending. Therefore, I will only describe the conditions of the halls from when I was a student. Underclassmen Halls: *For D&D (Dalton & Dunspaugh), the Dunspaugh side has two people rooms and uses community bathrooms. *The Dalton side has two people rooms with shared-private bathrooms, as in a shared bathroom between two rooms. *Sage Hall has two people rooms with shared-private bathrooms. *Weber Hall consists of two sides, like D&D. One side has private bathrooms while the other has community bathrooms. This hall consists of single rooms with private bathrooms or two to four people rooms with shared-private bathrooms. The benefit of living in Weber is that it is right in front of the pool. Upperclassmen: *Benincasa Hall consists of single rooms with private bathrooms or two people rooms with private bathrooms. *Browne Hall has two people rooms with shared-private bathrooms. *Dominican Hall consists of two people rooms with shared-private bathrooms or suites of four single rooms with private-shared bathrooms. The benefit of living in Dominican is that the first floor has a fast food place (JuiceBlendz/Create) and a convenience store (C-Store). *Flood Hall consists of single rooms with shared-private bathrooms or two people rooms with shared-private bathrooms. *Kolasa Hall consists of single rooms with private bathrooms or two people rooms with private bathrooms. *MD (Mottram Doss) Hall consists of a suite with three single rooms and a private-shared bathroom or a suite with five single rooms and two private-shared bathrooms. Horrible campus, dorms are dirty, overcrowded, outdated, super small and food is horrendous. Academy is weak, teachers are ok, housing director Joshua Bell and everyone that falls under him like to pass the ball if try to change dorm or have an issue with housing. They don't care even if you explain this is affecting you. I tried for months to move my da to a different dorm, i was ok with paying extra for a single dorm but they said this was only given to those with a medical condition that warranted the need for a single dorm yet a friend was giving one simply because he asked at the beginning of the year, which by the way we asked too. If you don't care about about of this then go ahead and give your money to one unworthy school. read more

I do not recommend this school to anyone. The name recognition is horrible, and the academics are a subpar. I got both bachelor's and master's degrees there, and 10 years after graduation, it's as if I never went to college. I can only qualify for jobs that only require a high school diploma. can't say much about the school because I only came to campus for a charity event to support the Social work department. The event was a hit and the students and people I met were amazing. The campus has easy visitor parking on one side of the street. You can easily cross the street to find the building you're looking for. Campus was clean and well landscaped. It is a Beautiful looking campus. Every department I have visited so far has been extremely nice and helpful. I actually do not start classes till May, so we will see how all that goes. I love Barry University! I earned my Masters degree in 1993 and enjoyed the time that I spent learning there. My Professors always knew my name and I never felt overwhelmed by the size of the school. I went back a few weeks ago and was impressed by all of the new construction and improvements. The grounds are beautiful and the city of Miami Shores that surrounds the school has the most beautiful homes. Transferred here to finish my bachelor, worst mistake I made. I saw many signs from this school, but I decided to stick with it through everything. When I first transferred it started off with them lying to me saying they had my major, later on finding out that they didn't and I had to change my major. Second when I submitted my transcript they said most of my transferred credit would be fine, later on they kept telling me how some of my transfer credits didn't count. So I was basically retaking classes I already took, just with a different subject name but same learning materials. Housing kept giving me a lot of trouble. The RA's definitely had favorites, they don't treat everyone fairly. The public safety people they're annoying. Especially the ones at the gate, idk why they don't just put a system where students can just use their ID and have a different side for visitors so everyone don't have to go through it. They say students can have guess, and when you do have guess it's a problem. I did a year and a half at Barry. And I'm proud to say that I will be transferring to another school. Save your money and go to a public school. This school is definitely not worth student loans. read more

I started out at Barry, but ran as fast as I could after a year. The dorms were cramped, had no privacy (was in sage hall) and I didn't feel safe without a knife because the area was really bad. I heard gun shots from my dorm !!! The education quality didn't justify the price at all, even with scholarships !! I did what any sane person would have done ... Transfer to FIU where Barry's credits didn't even count for much except a few electives and maths. This makes me question their credibility if I had such an issue with transfer credits. read more
