At the entrance we took some fun photos at the signs. I am not a military personnel and the only time I entered a military base as a civilian was in Fairfield CA many years ago at Travis AFB when my brother (US Army) was hospitalized and where he passed away. This Army installation was named after Henry Knox, the first Secretary of War. Fort Knox refers to the United States Bullion Depository which was a separate building from the Army base located at a far distance due to its high security. The impenetrable fortress was just a plain building but nonetheless a sight to see. When someone mentions 'Fort Knox' in a conversation or as an idiom now I can actually say I've seen it! LoL! Not so much for making Zoom calls, so it was good to be out here where there are power outlets and still in reach of the wifi. You do not need to be a resident of Hardin County to use the library or connect to the wifi. You only need to be a resident if you're borrowing materials. The main branch of the Louisville library located at 4th and York is in a beautiful building,…read morewhich, according to a plaque, was built between 1905 and 1908 and donated as a gift from Andrew Carnegie. While a gorgeous building, I can't properly rate it as I haven't used the library as a patron -- I haven't borrowed a book or spent time in there studying, so I don't really know how good a library it is. But as a tourist passing by, it was a good place to stop in for a look at the architecture and to use their washroom and fill up our water bottles, which was very much needed on such a hot day. The St. Matthews branch is close to a couple of my dogsitting clients and in the area of where my choir usually rehearses every week. Things I appreciate: The ample parking lot. The seating and reading spots and places. It is bright and modern. Things I don't love: Why doesn't my data on my phone work when I am inside this building? Why don't apps work or load well on my phone when I am on the library wifi in the building? Why won't my computer connect to the internet when I have connected to the library wifi? If I am here to just pick up some holds or to sit and read, its a-ok. If I am here to work on things...I can't understand why the wifi kills my devices' ability to function OR why I can't seem to get my data and hotspot to work inside this building, even sitting next to an entire wall of windows, not even deep in the building. That has been frustrating on several visits. Still...READ A BOOK y'all.

My 3rd born daughter was attending her first dance class across the road when we decided to explore the area. This freshly updated and nice library was open to 8pm so it made a perfect spot to to waste some time and have a bit of educational fun for me, my wife and other 3 daughters. Very spacious and well organized library. You walk In to a large area with computers and seating and the rest of the sections are around that area and clearly marked and separated making it easy to find your area. We had our younger ones with us so we found the adorably decorated young children's section in the very back corner and let the youngest play and look at books while we relaxed on the chairs. Overall nice library that offers everything from books, computer access, musical cd, dvd, blue rays and more. Very sleek and spacious and updated place. My daughter appeared to enjoy dance so this may become our hang out spot on days she has her practices.

It is of the newer model it moved from one part of Fairdale to another part more in the central part of town. It offers a wide variety of books movies cassettes and just an opportunity to go read and learn in private. I have taken my daughters here many times to play in to check out different books throughout the years. Library was easy to find and a very impressive facility. Demonstration kitchen with video display and audio were all great. Parking lot was fairly well lit, but did have a few burnt out roadway bulbs, which caused us to walk very gingerly off of the curb to our cars. Looking forward to future programming.

There is a decent sized parking lot but for that Books and Brews sale it was not nearly adequate. But for daily use, and for the author event, it was plenty ample to handle the patrons. It is clean and modern looking, bright and large and spacious inside. The back room that hosted the book sale and the author event is big enough for special events and has a wall of windows that give a pleasing view of greenery and plants outside. Makes you feel like you are in the middle of the forest. Staff at every LFPL branch are kind and welcoming. I can only assume I will be back here again soon enough, and you should pay them a visit too.

The exterior is futuristic, definitely not giving the vibes of a stuffy library. And the kids space really impressed me. The shelves are shorter, easier for little hands to grab books and there are all sorts of kid-size reading nooks to climb into. That is one thing that really stood out -- smaller spaces carved into the large indoor area of this library. Even with a horde of children running around, I saw several adults able to find spots to quietly enjoy a book. Parking may be a bit of a challenge for big events; we had to park across the street at the Target. But on normal days I bet the lot is easy to access. What a jewel of a space!

It's almost as if the staff and managers actually appreciate and know how to read. Could it be??? If only I could spend more time in Bardstown!
