I don't like to give bad reviews however I have had one of the worst experiences at Bloomington…read moreFamily Dental. The actual service itself was just okay, I did like the TV's with cable. However, I don't think they did as good as my previous dentist but he is in Omaha. What really turned me from this place are their business practices. After my services I had to pre-pay 100% of my bill even though I came in early filled out the paperwork and gave them my insurance card. The gal at the front desk said the reason they do this is incase the insurance company denies coverage. I just had a cleaning and basic x-rays, they are covered! So in order to not cause a scene I paid and left. A week later in received the Explanation of benefits from my dental provider. As expected it was covered 100%. I called the office the gal said oh yes we saw that but we didn't send a check out because most people like to use the money for their next visit. Hmmm.... She then proceeded to tell me that she can't send a check out until the end of November (my appt was Oct 13th!!). The end of November comes and goes, no check. I finally call back on December 12th they still did not send it! And the girl told me they only do checks once a month at the end of the month. There was no way I was waiting another month. She told me she will have to go out of her way to ask the doctor (PS, Dentist-not a doctor) if he could do a special check for me. Seriously, it has been their mistake the whole time, a special check for me. Last night I finally received the check, it was short $13 dollars. Bottom line, they suck! They lost my families business and I will continue to tell people about how terrible their business practices are.

Because of my former dentist taking on too many patients, they were unable to schedule appointments…read morein a timely manner. I cracked a tooth, was in pain, and needed an immediate repair. As a result, I found Bloomington Family Dental. I was able to get a same day consult and next day repair by Dr. John at Bloomington Family Dental. Not only was scheduling quickly a lifesaver due to my pain, but Dr. John was able to give me an inlay, not a full crown, and saved a larger portion of my tooth. Dr. John also does same day crowns having the technology in his office for the same price as offices that give you a temporary and make you wait 3 weeks for the final, unmediated repair step. Dr. John was also a lot more gentle than I had experienced by my prior dentist, and he checked in frequently with me during the repair to make sure I wasn't in pain. Dr. John also had other advanced technology, like enhanced imagery. The office staff was very nice and friendly. They made a point to understand my benefits and discuss the cost with me before the procedure as well. I did pay that day, but only partial payment due to the anticipated benefits from my insurance. The cost was right in line with what I had paid previously, even with the same day service and advanced technology. I recommend you give Dr. John and his team a try!

Contrary to the name of the practice, it does not feel like your typical small town dental office…read more I come from a family of dentists and have been to multiple small town practices that prioritize patient first care over profit; however, this is not Smalltown's philosophy (at least their actions). I wish I would have read the other low reviews on Google and Yelp prior to my appointment. I agree with others, Smalltown Dental's prices are high. Don't assume insurance will cover it. Ask for pricing and cross-check with your insurance coverage PRIOR to care. I was billed for a service I don't believe was necessary that was not covered by insurance rather than a new patient visit. I have NEVER been to a new dentist for the first time and had to pay for a new patient comprehensive exam out of pocket even if there were areas for concern. When I addressed the office about this, I was met with resistance and no real effort to make it right. They appear to be fine losing business because they are up-charging everyone else. Not the quality of care or interactions that I have been used to with true small town family practices. It is clear they are over charging so that they can make money from patients on top of payments from insurance. When called on it, they say that it is due to the fact that insurance is paying less and less and that they (the dental office) needs to pay their bills too...and yes, this was actually stated to me by the office manager. Maybe they can try lowering their bills by getting rid of the goodie bags. Patients don't need coffee mugs with the dental office logos on them...instead they deserve affordable care. I do believe they have control of their pricing instead of just blaming it on insurance companies. Everyone was nice; however, the dentist was disengaged. I was shocked that at a new dentist visit, the dentist didn't even take the time to try to get to know me or discuss anything regarding my care. The dentist's analysis did not align with the feedback that I got from the hygienist. If you are tempted to try this practice out due to the name, be wary of their billing and insurance policies. This practice focuses on profit over patient which is not what I am looking for. I will be seeking out a true small town practice that is not just trying to make a dime.

Our family would like to personally thank Dr Elaine Dossett and her wonderful staff at Aspen Dental…read morein Bloomington, Illinois for the exceptional care and compassion that they showered our 85 year old mother Helen with during her recent visit. It's not often, we are sure, that a dental team encounters a patient who has had the same pair of dentures for 57 years (yes, 57 years!) and has had no real dental care during those years. Dr Dossett and her team went above and beyond to allay our mother's fears and make the whole denture experience one that was not only calming, but fun as well. She took the time to carefully explain the whole process to our mother and answer our myriad of questions. And we can't say enough about the genuine love and caring displayed by the whole dental team. It was as though they were treating a member of their very own family. The final dentures that Helen received not only looked amazing, but fit wonderfully as well. Now our mom's beautiful smile is even brighter and she can eat with confidence! Dr Dossett and her team as Aspen Dental in Bloomington, Illinois are truly one of a kind and should be recognized for their outstanding work. They are the model that others should emulate for extraordinary patient care. Sincerely, John and Cathy Poplett and James Poplett on behalf of our dear mother, Helen Poplett

I took both of my children here for cleanings and it was a great experience, I felt comfortable despite my personal dental anxiety. My son had a total of eight cavities that needed to be filled, fine I was expecting that. We got 4/8 cavities filled. My daughter had cavities as well and I was told that I needed to see a dentist that specializes in children. The name of the office they gave me was not in network with our dental plan, so I was back to square one of finding a dentist for my youngest child to see. When I was able to see a dentist that specializes in children, I was told the work that was recommended was not necessary and she only needed her molars filled. I decided we needed to find an office that would tend to both children I also wanted a second opinion after my husband took my son for his second filling appointment and brought up some concerns about previous fillings that had been done and were hurting my child and felt loose. At the second appointment, the doctor blocked my husband from seeing what was going on and simply told my husband "we will take care of it." To our knowledge, nothing was done and our son came out saying the tooth was no longer loose after he had been telling us it was for 2 weeks prior to the appointment. I had asked the dentist if it would be better to just extract the tooth since they are "baby molars" and was told that he would have them for the next 2-3 years and a filling is necessary. At our second opinion appointment, I was told the fillings that were done were very large and one was already chipping (the fillings have only been done for a month and a half at this point.) I was also told that the molars that were filled would be falling out within the next year. And the other fillings that "needed done" by this dentist, were not necessary since they would soon fall out and are not causing pain, and 2 of them were small and superficial. I was also told that my son had an overbite and would eventually need braces, which was never told to me by the dentist in this office. I feel like I spent money on fillings for no reason if they are only going to fall out within the year, after being told something different at Hershey Dental. I am disappointed in taking advantage of a kid, and putting my child through unnecessary pain. And for what? So you could make money? Don't take advantage of people who already fear and have anxiety about going to the dentist. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Hershey Dental.
