There were only 10 Batman comics total, with just two different issues priced at .50. Everything else was $4.95 and up. When I asked about the .50 comics, I was told, "Oh, we had a bunch for the holidays." Misleading ad. Won't be back.

The store is well organized but maintenance needs to come in to clean the escalator and repaint since it is pretty dirty in some spots which is normal over time but looks like whoever is in charge of regional upkeep maybe hasn't noticed on their visits that this store needs so deep cleaning in some high foot traffic areas. Calvin and the whole crew are super friendly, caring, and--this is clutch for bookstore folks--great at helping readers find books they'll love. The curated collection in the main room is truly well-maintained and sourced, and they've got a ton of catalogued backroom-stock, too, so if you don't see something, be sure to ask for it! They've got a convenient ordering system and text me when my books are in. They buy used books for credit in the store in the form of a point system that is easy to understand. They have local authors and publishers (present company included!) in the store on a regular basis and especially on Sugarhouse Art Walk nights. The music is chill (instrumental math rock was on last time I was in the store, yay!), and the vibe is comfortable. Most importantly, I felt welcomed and like I could find a book for me in CBE. Yelp has the address correct, and it's located in a little strip mall next to the Walking Comfort Store and across the lot from In-N-Out. REVIEW: I visited Utah and knew I needed to prioritize a visit to Deseret Book. The selection and setup are incredible! There's so much to choose from, including books, artwork, stickers, figurines, etc., etc. I could have spent hours here. Truly. The service was pretty good, and oh, how I wish I lived closer to one. Of course, there is the website to purchase items, but there's nothing quite like the experience of perusing a bookstore and enjoying the vibe. This was a great visit! One of the owners, Andy, came over to help us and I can honestly say he was a true blessing. He wasn't just knowledgeable about the items in the store, he radiated compassion and calm. He listened to us with such patience, offered thoughtful guidance, and shared insight that immediately put our worries at ease. In a moment of heaviness for our family, he gave us peace, reassurance, and even a sense of lightness about this stage of life. This shop is so much more than a place to buy things... it's a sanctuary. We walked out not only with meaningful items for our mom, but also with hearts that felt lifted and comforted. Upstairs are two different areas-including a fabric store which has a ton of fun fabrics for you to choose from. These are not the same fabrics you will find at Jo-Ann's or anywhere else that sells fabric. The other business upstairs is a framing shop, that has mostly religious pictures-both original and prints for sale. They will also frame anything else that you bring in and did not purchase here. The two women upstairs were very friendly and welcoming, and made me feel like an old friend. If you are looking for a gift, there are plenty of options, and even non-denominational gifts for people of all ages. Plus, the store is such a peaceful place to just browse.

But I looked up to the second floor and could have sworn I saw bolts of fabric lining the walls. But this is Deseret Book, right? Up the stairs I go, and sure enough that place is packed with fabric. Maybe technically the thing is a Mormon Handicraft, but there it is under the same roof so I'm calling it part of Deseret Book for now. Here's the low down on the fabric: it's really cute. Like, super darling, adorbs, and totally quiltworthy. Polka dots like crazy, paisley, stripes, and lots of flowery darling things.
