A beautiful park and zoo in Göteborg, and it's free!…read more Slottsskogen was the highlight of my visit to Göteborg as well as one of my favourite experiences on my trip to Europe. I highly recommend it, and if you only have time to do a couple of things while in Göteborg, Slottsskogen should be a priority. The park is huge--perfect for a picnic or a game of Frisbee, and there is a zoo (one of the oldest in Sweden, according to the website). It's a great way to spend a day, and best of all, it's free!

There are paths for walking/running/biking, there's a giant pond with birds and little boats, there is an area with animals like ELK!, there is a playground, there is plenty of room for picnicking... and more! The location of Slottskogen is also fantastic - from one end you can easily access the botanical gardens and from the other you can head directly into town. Whenever I am in Göteborg, this place is tops on my list!

We came on a Monday and we only passed about 3 other people. Then when we got to the leopard exhibit they were being fed and it was very entertaining watching the leopards run over and eat. The animals I enjoyed seeing the most were the Tigers, wild dogs, the snow leopard, the Wolverines and the red panda. Furthermore, I really liked how much space each animal got in their enclosure. It's nice to see that these endangered animals get so much space in these very natural enclosures.

Anyways, it's a beautiful park, you can walk more than 10k steps just going one lap around the park. We took the route where you stayed with Dino land and then move on to the farm land and through to the bears and onto to the lions and Savannah area and then you end by taking the giant skywalk out. The park is kept super clean and the walkways are wide, so even if it's crowded there's plenty of space for strollers and large groups. We've been a few times now and when it's raining it's very empty, we almost had the park to ourselves when it was raining. The animals are all usually out and available to see, with special events throughout the day where you can watch them feed the animals and talk about them. However, if it is raining it seems like they don't have those events which was a huge bummer as we had planned our day around seeing the lions and bears eating but they didn't do the event and they also didn't post any signs saying it was cancelled. Most importantly, if you're going to get lunch the best option is simba grill. They have a great burger and fish and chips. The Savannah restaurant has the best view of the animals and the meatball buffet is ok, pretty standard, but the simba grill food is actually very good!

The paths inside the park are well-maintained and good accessable with wheelchair or with small kids. At the entrance of the park you find a time-schedule when the animals get feeded. There are a couple of shops and restaurants in the park, but it's not too pushy and disturbing. You will not feel ashamed when you bring your own drinks into the park. In the park you'll find a few playgrounds for smaller and bigger kids. All together a good park, nice to visit. One minor remark: All information in the park is in Swedish only. Foreighn tourists might have a language problem there.

Most games are 10 SEK for a game and the pinball is SEK5 for a game. During May and until mid-June you can buy a "all-you-can-play"-ticket for SEK90 on Sundays only. This is perfect! Because, honestly who are done playing after one token paid? So anyone lucky enough to be at Liseberg on Sundays now - you should totally buy this one day option! Actually, it is the only way to enter the Arcade on Sundays because all games are set on free play - except for those with prizes of course. Some of the games and machines are pretty worn and old, but there are a few new ones - I enjoyed the Harley Davidson, hunting and one of the racing games. The HD game is scary! You get an authentic feeling riding the bike and it feels like you're gonna fall off! Really! I guess this option made it less crowdy which was perfect, less children and no waiting time. But bring ear plugs! It is NOISY! Older people will get tired! ;) Tickets are bought in Spelhuset (not park entrance). They accept AMEX.
