Mother on the other hand has bought books, toys and fancy-dressware for work (she works with children!) and it's always dirt cheap. The book section is probably it's best asset. I think the shop could do with a face lift or at least a little wash down.

Actually, they sell musical instruments, sports gear and other outdoor related gear. Weirdness galore. I think this is a pretty good shop for sports gear but I was kind of creeped out by it and didn't really comfortable enough to spend much time browsing around.

I only recently discovered that Sue Ryder was a national charitable organisation, I had thought, perhaps due to the quaintness of this store, that this was a locally based charity. Still, it's funded and run by locals. The staff are quite possibly the nicest I have ever encountered, nothing is too much trouble and they're always so, so grateful, to the point that I am shamefaced for just buying a copy of Wham! for a quid as a joke for a friend. I usually visit charity shops for books: university texts and leisure reads, and Sue's has never really been of use, I don't think books is it's forte, but there's always lots of kids toys (no not for me) and beautiful doll's houses (yes, for me) and if you look through there's often some designer clothes mixed in. I once picked up a stunning hat for the races in here: very Audrey Hepburn!

But this charity shop? I too have been turned away from donating perfectly good, clean & saleable stuff. Every time I've been it just seems like a drop-in coffee centre for the workers & their friends. Heaven forbid that anyone actually do any work as a volunteer! I now donate to Crosby Housing next to the POst Offioce, they take anything & are GRATEFUL for it.

The Cinema Support Shop is one of the best Charity Shops in the area. Run by Jean and John you always get a welcome and the atmosphere is happy and friendly. Donations are always welcome there. The shop is so well presented and has made a tremendous turn around in such a short time. Without the Plaza Support Shop the Plaza Cinema would not survive so I urge everyone who values the facility in our area to support both shop and cinema. We live in a great Community one of the best communities in the Country. So please eveytime you have a clear out bring it to the Plaza Cinema Support Shop all will be most welcomed. However, it is, if you can compare charities, one of the most worthy. Jospice is entirely run by volunteers and raises money for the St Joesph's Hospice in Thornton. Jospice provides care and support for the terminally ill and their families and is a very popular local organisation... so I don't really understand why locals dump their unwanted rubbish here.. Have a look, and give where you can. The staff are so lovely and very grateful.

I have not actually bought anything from here as I seldom shop at charity stores; I often don't find any item that attracts me with the exception of Oxfam on odd occasions. I have however, donated items of clothing to Shelter which were all in good condition. Even though it was no big deal, the woman who took my unwanted items did not even smile or kindly acknowledge my donation which I thought was rude. This gave me the impression that she was just expecting this to happen. After this experience, I would never donate anything else here again. Places like Oxfam would always appreciate a donation no matter the size or quantity of the item(s).
