What we found was a high-end (read: well-crafted but fairly expensive), somewhat generic (read: could have come from Pottery Barn/Restoration Hardware/Crate & Barrel/West Elm) home decor store. While I appreciate that style for anchor pieces like sofas and end tables, I'd definitely rather fill a glass lamp with my *own* found seashells than buy one pre-filled. I wasn't all that surprised to learn, then, when composing my Yelp review, that Saturday Afternoons is a small Ontario chain. Because nothing in the Bala outpost seems particularly Muskoka specific like so many other home goods stores 'round these parts.

I have to admit, I'm not a shopper when it comes to vacation spot stores, but, this place captivated me. It's really that cool! I had to drag my kids out because they were working on a puzzle the store set out for everyone to join in. The prices are beyond fair, so much so that I purchased items here that would have cost more online. I strongly recommend visiting this business if you are in the area. :). Have fun here, seriously, it's not often I write reviews like this. This place is worth visiting. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

I love that the "gallery" is located in the otherwise unused alleyway between the Balacade (Arney's father's arcade and longtime Bala institution), and Pizza Nova. I love that everything is agreeably priced. I love that you take your purchase into the Balacade where Mr. Arney, Sr., rings you up. I love the reclaimed duck we brought home, with a Muskoka granite rock body and ladies Spalding golf club for the head.
