I was perusing through the ask Toronto room on Reddit and found out about the Mill Pond Gallery…read morewhen someone inquired about a gallery that showcases local artist. They were wanting to buy work for their new place. I looked the place up and realize that they were doing a exhibition of local artist. So I decided to visit. It was in a ranch style home that was converted into a commercial gallery. I spoke with the curator and an exhibiting artist. I enjoyed the gallery and the works on display. I was here the other day with my cousin's husband, who like me, loves visiting these kinds of spots. I've been looking for a vintage stand mixer for a while now, one of those indestructibly- built ones from the 1960s or 70s from companies which no longer make them, like Phillips, or Sunbeam and with metal parts (not plastic- the fact that they are super heavy is how you know). I don't want Kitchenaid or whatever. My cousin got a Sunbeam one for $50 from the 1950s and it's still going strong. I didn't find what I was looking for, but the fun of these kinds of places is that it never hurts to look. This place has stalls and stalls of old vintage stuff and at a fraction of the prices bearded hipsters with man-buns will charge you in Toronto. Paintings, Depression-era glass glassware and dining ware, fine bone china tea cups, Waterford crystal, nested Pyrex mixing bowls. You just have to know what you're looking for.
