Barn & Charm is truly a hidden gem in Newhall. I happened to be in the area grabbing coffee and decided to stop by, and I'm so glad I did. From the outside, it looks pretty unassuming, but the moment I walked in, I was honestly shocked at how big it is and how much they have inside. This place is packed in the best way possible. It's a vintage lover's dream with so many cute, fun, and unique finds. From knick-knacks and home décor to jewelry, greeting cards, soaps, plants, and vases... they truly have it all. There's even a mix of quirky and slightly creepy pieces (those vintage dolls definitely caught my eye) which gives the store so much personality. All types of novelty fun things here. Vintage-New!!! I ended up spending a good 45-50 minutes just browsing, and you could easily spend even longer. I actually walked out with a few things, including the most beautiful opal ring that I'm absolutely obsessed with, and a cute little plant with a vase. If you're ever looking for a gift, this is the place to come. Everything feels unique and thoughtfully curated it honestly gives "Etsy in real life" vibes. The girl who helped me was super kind and sweet, which made the experience even better. Overall, I had such a great time here. I'm so happy I came across this antique boutique style shop, a true hidden gem! I found it on Yelp & let me say it's a super cute place, perfect for you next home decor or gift to give. They have a range of different items from soaps to decor to jewelry. Also these creepy doll heads super iconic, reminded me of pretty little liars haha! WOW, what a disappointment... ughhhhh.. first let me say, I love places like this, especially in a time when corporations run everything and it's hard to find anywhere that is not a chainstore or corporate knockoff. My family and I have spent a lot of money here throughout the years, it's a favorite of my grandmother's... she's a hip hip woman still and loves to support indie mom and pop shops that make the city unique. And like any good "indie"spot it has all the quintessentials.. cool location, vintage finds, unique artwork and antique gems.. . but like all hip spots they always have the one big cliche that's a bummer - you know, the aging bohemian cashier who is self-important, sluggish and and way too old to still be wearing a nose ring. It's almost embarrassing to have an attitude at such a pedestrian job but these type of characters have somehow convinced themselves that their job is "like super important." Hate to tell you, but you're not curing cancer sweetie. To the point, I used to work at a music shop in the valley which supported our lovely mentally challenged community and always gave them jobs when we could.. and you know those kids did the same cashier job this woman does, however, they did it with a smile and attitude that made people feel appreciated and want to return. It's a real shame because I like this place, I like the owner, she's always kind an friendly.. that's the only reason why I don't give it a 1 star but believe me it's not easy after such disrespect. The owner and her obtuse employee should keep in mind it's important to remember that people work hard for their money and when they're lucky enough to have some extra cash to spend and you're the business they spend it at, the least you can do is make them feel welcome. Their's nothing interesting or "edgy" about a 40 year old employee acting entitled, annoyed or put out when they have to "help" a customer. I thought taking the money was the easy part, no? Why anyone would chose to make my whole family feel unwelcome after spending over 100 dollars in your store is a true mystery. Regardless of how much we like your store, don't get it twisted... your unkept cashier is not making your place hip cause she looks a little crispy and acts condescending and smug. Look, if i was her age and still pushing buttons as my career I might be a little bitter too, but I'd still be nice to an old woman who lives on a fixed income and survived cancer. Don't worry though, we won't bother you again, I know it's a lot of work to be kind to paying customers. Merry Christmas. read more

After lunch with my friend, we walked over to this little store to check it out. I've been in here a few times before, it's a mixture of vintage and newer items with that cottage feel too it. A little pricy, but depends on what you're looking for. I came across this little section full of home made goodies, from chocolate to jam, to honey and tea. I ended up purchasing some loose leaf tea (white tea) and homemade chocolate fudge. They even had samples to try of all the goodies. I also ended up with a little recyclable bag from a brand I love, called 'natural life'. I love the saying that they have, they had a lot of really cute goodies so next time I stop by I might have to pick up a few more things. Also friendly ladies who work there and very helpful. The girl at the front register made me feel extremely uncomfortable after asking a simple question asking if the $2 used matches they sell were included in the sale they were having this weekend. She passive aggressively made it very clear that they were not and each match cost $2. I completed my purchase but damn that hurt my soul a bit. There is parking on the street and a small parking lot around the back of the shop, but in the center of the small shopping center. Experience: We were scoping out different antique stores in the area on Yelp and this place came up so we decided to check it out. If you like country charm, you're bound to like it here. They have a fun mix of refurbished furniture/accessories and new items and all are merchandised well. It's a much larger store than I anticipated when I first went in. On one hand, it felt a bit empty, but on the other there was a lot to look at. What I learned this week is how much I like painting furniture & more and how much I didn't know what I was doing. I had a splendid time in the Chalk painting 101 class with Carol. The 4 hour class flew by. I learned so much and will now need to convert one of my rooms into a painting room. Carol was delightful and knowledgeable. I can't wait to take more classes like the transfers and molds class. Besides painting and staining supplies, Barn and Charm is full of great finds: farmhouse decor, antiques, shabby chic 'n more. The women in my class were fun and the other woman working in the shop were a joy. I can't wait to finish my table. Before and after pictures to come. I always recommend barn and charm for vintage painted furniture and gifts. They have a variety of things in here. I am writing a review for this lovely store on my second visit. I purchased a table I eyed on my 1st visit and since it was still there it felt like it was meant to be in my home. But when I got home the two spots I thought the table would go just didn't work. It was too big by an 1in or so. I was disheartened and called to see if there is anything that can be done. Carol very kindly let me know about their policy but went above and beyond and offered to call the vendor would consider or figure something out. Laurie, the vendor, was willing! But... I moved the table to another spot and styled it and I couldn't return it anymore. Meant to be after all! But the whole experience was so positive for me that I went back and purchased a three tiered table that I saw and it was perfect for the spot that I got it for! I love coming here! They have such cute antiques. I love all their vintage tea sets. I just bought a whole tea set and china, they are gorgeous! I also got a beautiful lace tablecloth. I took my first workshop the other day. It was the IOD transfer tray. Enjoyed every minute! Carol is very patient, nice and great instructor. My daughter had taken the modern calligraphy workshop awhile back and also enjoyed the class. Besides the fun and awesome workshops they offer, shopping is great too. This store is really small store. Many of the items in the store are made to look vintage and are actually mass produced repros readily available at many retailers. There are simply too many of these types of stores, lacking authenticity. read more

I had started going to Barn and Charm recently because I found out they carried a specific type of chalk paint that I use to refinish furniture. What a cute and charming shop! And then I saw that they have different types of creative workshops which I immediately signed up for. Last night I took one and Carol, the shop owner was so kind, informative and very helpful.
