This is THE farmers market to go to when you need just about any sort of produce. Or something…read moreextra... but the regulars are Simmons, Janoskis, "the farm family", near Wood street bakery (fridays) and Pitaland, who have a fantastic variety of produce/herbs/plants, "the older guys" down towards the kettle corn (this doesn't arrive till June) Then you have food vendors- like Acou try Style Pizza, shaved ice, local honey, Coyne Family meats, the fudge lady, etc sorry I cannot name them all! Fridays only in May, then Things start rolling in June-August. Best part, this goes until November; it's covered, mostly enough parking except be prepared when corn season hits. Last Friday, the first market, Janoskis brought, French carrots, fennel, Sorrel, plants, tons of lettuces and cabbage- just to name a few. The AMAZING wood Street Bakery had their fresh breads, cinnamon rolls- so much good stuff that's hard to choose! And a new vendor came selling beautiful tulip bouquets. This has been a family favorite stop for over 20 years that we've lived nearby.

You could get in and out fairly quickly if you knew exactly what you wanted. We arrived a few minutes after 5:30pm and there was a bit of a crowd already, but not the same magnitude of farmer's markets in the bay area. We only picked up a few veggies and fruit, all fresh and crispy, though one of the ears of corn we got had some smaller kernels compared to the rest of the bunch. Also managed to get some baked items, some gifts to take home, plus freshly cooked chinese dumplings! Besides the fresh veggies, these were a highlight considering there isn't much local asian food to choose from and definitely some of the better made dumplings I've had. Not too salty and not too oily. Great place to pick up a quick dinner or some last minute veggies.

Also a lot of options and different price ranges depending on your budget. The bigger relationship the better the deals so just keep going and get those veggies.

A GREAT DAY INDEED!…read more While visiting the city of Akron, I knew that I wanted to visit one of the local farmer's markets since I have a full kitchen at my disposal. We woke up early and drove the 30 minutes to the town of Canton. As we exited our vehicle we noticed that the market was rather small and we chatted with one customer who said that there wasn't much being offered today. She went on to say that things are slowing down since the market is scheduled to close in a couple of weeks. I was very pleased with the greens, (turnips, red and green lettuce). They almost look to good to eat. The produce was great but we were limited as to how much we could purchase. If you were at home shopping at this market, there would have been a blood bath! The prices here are equivalent to "free" and I was actually embarrassed by the total cost of the vegetables. If she had had a tip jar on the table, I would have definitely blessed that jar! As we made the rounds, we came to a vendor sampling the most delicious chicken sausage ever!! We definitely bought two packages of that sausage. We finally rounded out our visit by purchasing some nectarines and organic veggies. I can't wait to dig into that sausage and those veggies! Today was a great day at the market!

Best selection of local produce anywhere in the area. Their strawberries are so sweet that you…read moredon't need to add sugar. They also sell a delicious blueberry angel food cake that's way better than shortcake, but they have that, too. Sugar snap peas, and sweet peas are also very sweet that you can eat them raw right out of the pod. They have many baked goods that are absolutely delicious. Baked bread, large selection of different types of cookies, large selection of different kinds of pies. Both ones made from sugar, and others made from Stevia. They have jelly and jams made by the Amish, as well as Amish made cheese. You can buy eggs, and meat as well. They are open all year long, but they obviously have a larger selection of locally grown produce in the spring, summer and fall. They have greenhouses, so they do grow things in the winter, but best time to visit is spring through fall. Their spinach is very dark green and the leaves are sometimes bigger than my hands... Nothing like you would see at a supermarket. They have multicolored carrots coming in colors of yellow and purple, as well as orange. You don't have to buy the multicolored carrots and you can just get orange, but I know different nutrients are in different colors of vegetables, so I like to get the multicolored carrots and multicolored potatoes. Sweet corn is also very sweet; so sweet that you don't need to add butter and salt. My chiropractor in Boardman told me about this place, and I thank her every time I see her because I never knew it existed. If you are getting your produce at a supermarket during Ohio's growing season, you are really missing out by not getting it here. Everything tastes so much better when it's homegrown.
