Our Frigidaire electric oven stopped working on December 23rd while baking cookies. They burned despite perfect results earlier that day. Luckily, we caught the issue before cooking our Christmas turkey. I called several repair shops before reaching Barkman on December 24th. Justin answered, and after I described the issue, he confidently diagnosed it as a control panel failure without further questions. He quoted $300 for a new unit or $200 to refurbish ours, recommending the latter. Since Barkman closed from December 25th to January 1st, I had to choose between ordering a new panel that day for pickup on January 2nd or waiting until then to drop off our panel for repair, pushing pickup to January 7th or 8th. Either way, we'd be without an oven for a while. I dropped off the panel on January 2nd, confirming the 2-3 day turnaround. By January 8th, I hadn't heard back. I called on the 9th, and Justin admitted they broke the housing and were waiting for a replacement. He never informed me of this delay. When I expressed my frustration, he had no response. He said the part was in Winnipeg and should arrive that afternoon--but it didn't. I called again, and he said it would come the next day. On January 10th, Justin called to say it was ready. I picked it up, paid $200, and asked if they had confirmed it was faulty. He said yes, which reassured me. After driving an hour home, I installed the panel and tested the oven. It still overheated. I called Justin just before closing. He backtracked, saying the issue was likely something else. I reminded him of his certainty and that he never recommended further diagnosis. He agreed to refund me on Monday. On Monday, when I called for the refund, Justin asked me to return the board. I reminded him that they broke the housing, causing the extra delay. He said nothing, processed my refund, then muttered sarcastically, "That's the last time I try to help a customer." When I questioned him, he mumbled, made an excuse, and hung up. I called back, hoping to speak with someone who cared. I reached Esther, but she dismissed my complaint and deflected. No manager was made available. If this were my business, I'd want to know how my employees treat customers. A simple acknowledgment of my frustration would have helped. Instead, my only recourse is this review. Oh, and I later realized the control panel cover was broken. Justin never mentioned this. I didn't bother reporting it--I won't deal with them again. Trust is everything in business, and Justin repeatedly failed to be honest. I wouldn't recommend Barkman to anyone. read more

I was having a problem with my 4 year old refrigerator freezing the fresh foods and called this business for a repairman. He came out and while he was checking behind the back plastic panel of the freezer I heard a loud cracking noise, and he said he was just checking for ice build-up. He said there was none so he determined it needed a main temperature controller for around $400. After he left the fridge started to slowly warm up. We agreed to replace the temperature controller and he came out and put it in, after he left the fridge completely warmed up and wasn't working anymore. Called him back and "oh my, now you have a leak of refrigerant in one of the sealed lines, no use to fix that!" I asked him to take back the very expensive part, but can you guess what's next? They can't take that part back b/c it was installed. I completely believe the repairman accidently broke one of the lines on the first day he came to diagnose the problem, and I believe he put that temperature controller on the fridge knowing that it was not going to work. Unfortunately this company has a monopoly in the area and is basically the only appliance repair shop that will travel to more remote areas. Sad isn't it? read more
