We were a little surprised to see the gate and fence in the small dog area badly mangled. Not sure if that was vandalism or vehicle damage, but it looks terrible. One other thing bothered me a lot, and that was the crabby self appointed guardian of the small dog area that cross-examined us the minute we entered the pen. Her shockingly rude and inappropriate behavior left us flabbergasted. It seems that keeping our dog leashed rubbed her the wrong way. Lady, who are you to sit there like the Queen of Sheba sitting on her throne and have the audacity to tell us what to do? Lady, first of all - you don't know our dog, and second of all - we don't know the other dogs, so what makes you think you have the right to talk down to us like a kindergarten teacher admonishing her kids for putting the yellow crayons in with the reds? What makes you think you have the right to tell us (and I quote exactly word for word) "maybe you shouldn't be here". Other than that, we had a very nice time.

Love that the small dog park and big dog park are the same size and that they are right next to…read moreeach other so the dogs can run back and forth across the fence with each other. There is plenty of parking for the dog park which is great and most people know to drive slow and carefully in the area. There is water, but with covid, it is best to bring your own water. We love that the whole area is grass but there are a few spots that get dug out by the doggos. Our pup loves it here and loves seeing all the dogs. Most people are doing a great job of social distancing as well.

Well, maybe your design plan would include plenty of open green spaces, baseball, soccer and lacrosse fields, basketball courts, maybe a few walking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, a Fitness Station, a skatepark, two ice cream trucks, an all-inclusive boundless playground, and a gazebo for groups and barbecuing. And you'd probably want an easy to find location with a few different entrances and parking lots, right? Well, if you're looking for such a town park in South Windsor, CT, look no further than Nevers Park, because it has all of the above plus more. Today was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of activity going on at Nevers today. The playgrounds and splash pad were packed, there was a big group at the gazebo barbecuing lunch, we saw plenty of well-behaved dogs on their leashes, and we saw one cute little guy shooting baskets on a Munchkin-sized hoop that must have been four feet off the ground. We walked a leisurely loop around the property on their wide flat paved trails which took us to their ball fields, playground, splash pad, skate park and fields. What a wonderful park!

There is a cool basketball shooting area with poops of different heights. The splash pad is really the selling point during the summer. It's clean, offers seating with Adirondack chairs in the shade and sun, and a variety of different water play activities. We love having play dates here and there's always a lot to do. We haven't ventured over to the field area or the skate park, but I'm sure those are fun as well.

We saw a few baseball fields, tennis courts, a dog park, lots of pretty flowers, a very nice swimming area, and took a nice leisurely stroll on a flat wide newly cut grass walking path. We didn't see a lot of people out there today, but we did see a whole bunch of butterflies, birds and a bunny rabbit perched ahead of us on the path. He skedaddled when we got close. We also heard the public address announcer for a little league game across the lake, and he was a hoot as he did his best Michael Buffer imitations as each new batter came up to bat.

Mill Woods is on our family local park menu. There is a kids' play area. It doesn't have the best…read moreor newest playscape or other equipment, but it's pretty good and I think it may be the most shaded kids' play area around. That makes it a great choice for hot days and a not so great choice when there is morning dew that needs to evaporate from the slides, etc. There are two nice baseball/softball fields, a skate area, a soccer field, a basketball court, tennis courts, mostly flat walking trails through the woods, a bocce area, a pond, a gazebo, a dog park and more. I've seen all sorts of birds including a bald eagle and hawks. Mill Woods is definitely worth keeping on your park list.

This park is on 162 acres; it's a farm, trail, and education center…read more The coolest part are the barnyard animals and large garden. They are open all year round so it's a nice spot to take the kids or yourself to. There are three miles of trails too; don't forget your duck boots, we went after rain and it was muddy but fun nonetheless. There's even a half mile of that trail that is handicap accessible. There is a discovery room that has reptiles, amphibians, and a parrot! There were plenty of parking when we went. A great spot to explore for sure!

Even though most of the facility was closed, it sure scratched our cabin fever itch and provided a very nice place to get outside, walk around, and breathe some fresh air. Although the Indoor facilities aren't open at this time, you can explore the park grounds and trails as we did today. We want to come back when things are opened up because this looks like an awesome place with tons of fun things to do. It was pretty cool seeing people snowshoeing today, we never saw that before.

This 137-acre property is a wildlife management and training area for hunting dogs. The Farmington…read moreRiver runs besides it and it was a farm that was purchased by the state in the 1970s. The dirt road going into the area is a little conspicuous. The road was very narrow and had potholes that could take you to Australia; just drive really slow. There's a paved bike trail right beside it too. When I went, I parked on the first parking area to the left. I walked down the dirt road (which was muddy due to rain) and saw a huge pond to the right. The pond was clean and pristine with a little beach. There was a long walking path near a giant field that was being mowed the day I went. I saw other people walking, walking their dogs, and even a kayaker. The park was quiet and very serene. There are many recreational activities to do there; hunting, fishing, hiking, and kayaking/canoeing. The main use for this property is field trials; hunting dogs are trained for speed, style, and locating/retrieving of game. The field and water are crucial for this type of traning. When there are field trial trainings, the park will be closed. There is a schedule you can check online to see if the park is available for the public. During the fall and winter, it is advised that visitors and their dogs wear orange vests due to hunting season; however, discharging of ammunition is allowed daily. Overall, it was a lovely area to take a stroll! We had a fun time walking and relaxing by the water.

The Vine Hill Creamery building was remodeled to become a clubhouse and storage. There's definitely quite a bit of history here. There's a large pond and a smaller retention pond next to it. The Canadian geese were everywhere so watch your step with their poo. There's a baseball field, soccer field, and basketball courts. For summer recreation, there is a splash pad and pool. On this visit, we went to the playground which had two playscapes; one for younger kids and the other for older kids. There were picnic tables throughout and a short, paved trail. Overall, we had a fun time exploring the park and it's a nice quiet place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

What will you find in Beachland Park?…read more A huge pond, lots of geese on the grass and in the water, soccer fields, a baseball diamond, basketball courts, a swimming pool, splash pads, very pretty scenery, and two playgrounds. There are all sorts of jogging and bike paths that snake through the park including one that took us clear out of the park into a residential neighborhood and then onto New Britain Avenue near Pepe's Pizza. Just a heads up to keep your heads down and eyes peeled on the trails and paths. There was a lot of goose poop on the trails, and I suppose you can't blame the geese for that. But we also saw a lot of canine poop that you can blame the selfish, inconsiderate, slugs of human beings masquerading as dog owners who can't be bothered to pick up after Fido does his thing on the walking path. Shame on them....
