Her shockingly rude and inappropriate behavior left us flabbergasted. It seems that keeping our dog leashed rubbed her the wrong way. Lady, who are you to sit there like the Queen of Sheba sitting on her throne and have the audacity to tell us what to do? Lady, first of all - you don't know our dog, and second of all - we don't know the other dogs, so what makes you think you have the right to talk down to us like a kindergarten teacher admonishing her kids for putting the yellow crayons in with the reds? What makes you think you have the right to tell us (and I quote exactly word for word) "maybe you shouldn't be here". Other than that, we had a very nice time.

St. Brigid St. Augustine Partnership School has been closed for almost five years. The rear of the former school has a nice sized dog park. It is fenced with the rules posted on the outside of the fence. The rules are pretty standard. My pup and I were the only ones here. The park is divided into two parks, one is for little dogs, which is where we were and the other is for larger dogs. Jude had such a fun time running around, and of course sniffing every single corner. There are a lot of wood chips all over the park, which undeniably ended up all over Jude's hair, and eventually all over my car. There was a bench which I sat at, and he came under, once he was ready for some shade. The West Hartford Dog Park is a nice park to let your dog run around and play.

There was MDC Police that patrolled the area when I was there. Parking was plentiful when we went on a beautiful spring weekday. There were clean porta potties onsite. There were trails in the woods and out in the open; the trails were paved and gravel. It is opened daily from sunrise to sunset and closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. There were two trails; 3.4-mile loop red trail and 2.0-mile loop yellow trail. We started off with the gravel yellow trail that has a slight incline. Then we got onto part of the red loop which was near the bridge overlooking the water. We saw a couple of deer in the woods, geese, and turtles in the water. This is where we walked on pavement. Some of the trees were marked by type. The trail was busy with walkers and bikers. Overall, I really enjoyed the hike/walk and can't wait to go back.

The WH Reservoir has been my peaceful playground and refuge since the '70's…read more Hard to believe that State Connecticut had a planned to construct ring highway through the hills beside the Reservoir. Following public protest and legal battle(s) the project was shelved indefinitely back in the 70's. This was also about the time, vehicle traffic was barred on many of the back MDC roadways. What was left, beautiful network of paved and foot beaten paths. Everyday day of the week, the public are welcome to walk, jog, saunter, bicycle these mapped trails. Mountain biking has been throttled down significantly due to excessive wear and tear on the wooded areas. Biking still remains popular long designated routes and in a one-way pattern (for everyones safety). Pedestrians: Please mind the painted walking path, eyes on drifting into the bike path - that way ALL will enjoy. Kilkenny rock has been one of my favorite destinations (refer to an MDC map) this is a nice overlook of the Hartford sky scape. Trails also connect from the Farmington Avenue entrance across to Route 44 passing over Avon Mountain. GPS and one of my favorite apps "All Trails" are helpful even to a season chap like me.

The new pavilion is impressive--the park group worked to provide a comfortable spot for dog owners while the dogs play. Water is available to the dogs is owners pump it form the available well or they can bring their own. Poop bags are provided but owners make the $$$ of keeping up the park less if they bring their own bags. PROBLEM: CERTAIN OWNERS REFUSE TO PICK UP THEIR DOG'S POOP, LEAVING A MESS FOR OTHER USERS OF THE PARK. NO REQUESTS TO PICK UP YOUR DOG'S POOP HAVE BEEN HONORED. A fabulous place for the whole family, trees, grass, sun, shade, and the playground will be updated eventually The funny thing about the park signs is that they are small/over grown, or too old, and the large one on Kendall Street actually faces across the street, looking into trees and shrubs. No one is going to find that park opening easily :)

If you are coming and it's winter with snow in the ground, DO NOT come unless if you are driving a truck with four wheel drive or snow tire. Otherwise you will be stuck and can't get out. The roads are dirt road and they are not plowed. This happened to me as I took a risk driving a sedan in, kind souls at the playground accompanying their kids helped me to dig my car out of the snow. I would never want anyone else to go through my traumatic experience. It's a nice park I think, at least my dog had a blast there. There is a golden doodle that frequents here and he has a ton of energy and is a goof, my dog loved him. There is a picnic table to sit at. I dont recall there being toys there since it was the winter when i was there and the ground was covered with snow. There is only 1 section no small/large dog area.

I have lived literally 2 miles away for 10 years and never knew this place existed. I joined a…read morekickball league and went last night for my first game, and was surprised, excited, and shocked all at the same time. This park is massive, and there are amazing views of the city of Hartford. There is plenty of on-street parking, several fields for games, and just wide, open spaces. I'm looking forward to coming here weekly for my games, and also just to explore, have a picnic, or just to play!
