As a buyer of vintage/antique items, I thought the Emporium (both locations) And their sister store…read morethe fair would be a great place to shop. Boy I was completely wrong. The owner has stuff so overpriced that I wouldn't recommend anybody purchasing anything from the store. Most items you can find on eBay cheaper with shipping. I went to the fair and there was a Virgin Mary marked for $30. Yes, she was vintage. However upon closer look her head was decapitated and glued back. Not even a smooth glue job noticeably broken. I offered 5/$10 for it which is reasonable for a significantly damaged item. The owner's response was it was originally $75 so he would only go down to $25 seriously? Go ahead and keep decapitated Mary and I wish you the best on selling it for $25. Owner is obviously just in it for the money Or completely delusional you pick. Support if you'd like but Buyer beware! Make sure to check Google lens before you purchase.

As Lake Charles residents, homeowners, and supporters of local small businesses, my husband and I…read morewere excited to check out The Emporium's new spot on Common Street. Unfortunately, our visit was overshadowed by one of the most uncomfortable and baffling customer service experiences we've ever encountered. While browsing--calmly and respectfully, I might add--I was simply checking out a stack of pots, one of which appeared to be a Magnalite. I wasn't throwing them around or causing any damage, just moving them to see the branding. The shop owner approached and commented that he "heard all the ruckus" and wanted to "see what was going on." I let him know I was just inspecting the brand and restacked everything neatly before walking away. A few minutes later, my husband and I, an Army veteran, were looking at a military medical transport box. We were discussing its potential use for hurricane evacuations, and yes--it's a metal box with latches, so there was a bit of sound when we checked the seal. That's when the owner stormed over and abruptly told us, "Don't touch that,". Did he think a) we would break it b) we didn't have the money to pay for something we broke? It was then followed by an aggressive, "You two are the loudest people I've ever encountered." We were stunned and frankly confused by the hostility. We paid for a vintage Coke crate we'd picked out and left. We will not be returning, and we'll make sure to avoid supporting any future ventures tied to this owner.

I had a terrible experience at this place and if I could, I would give it a zero-star rating. I…read morebrought in some stylish, clean (freshly washed clothes) to sell or exchange, but after waiting over three hours, the staff refused because of a "strong food odor." -the clothes had no sent what so ever. - They claimed the clothes weren't really cleaned, and I always feel unfairly treated and scrutinized as a Black woman at this establishment. I have friends of color who have had the same experiences and been given similar excuses by the staff, so I'm not surprised by this revelation

I can give this business NOT ONE STAR. SEE THE BOTTOM PLEASE. I HAD TO GIVE IF ONE STAR TO POST…read moreAD. It is absolutely not as advertised on the website. The website is under a business umbrella and has 4 different business that are listed. Plato's closet at 2902 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, LA 700601 is the location I am addressing. They were dishonest, said some humiliating remarks, and profiled you by age and only the beginning. The stock was horrible and very worn looking even though the website says "gently used". That would be funny if not so untrue. The clothing was faded, shrunken and VERY used looking. A complete tour of the store was done. I spend weeks going through clothing, shoes, jewelry, and scarves. ALL were neatly done. We went to the store and was turned away because our items were in plastic bags. I did not know that. I was told they would have to be in tubs or bags to be recycled. So I said I had 2 pairs of boots in my car in their boxes and asked if I could leave them. I did. I was texted about 2 hours later. Here's the kicker. I had seen a faded yellow t-shirt on display in the window. I bought that and took to the counter. I have names and texts still until now. I bought this old faded looking yellow t-shirt for $8.00. What did I get in return for the 2 expensive pair of boots. I got $4. and some change. I was SHOCKED. The young lady was stone faced. So I went home and redid all of my clothes and put them neatly in tubs that I have. I had 2 paper handle bags with scarves, shoes, a couple of hats and a few miscellaneous items. I have pictures of ALL. The jewelry was all done in separate jewelry type plastic bags and then into a larger Ziploc and all sealed, plus were all lableled on the outside of the Ziplocks. I put 3 layers of tissue paper on the top of each tub before I left them. I also told them if they would rather I break up the amount of items I had and leave them at different times I would so the amount would be less to go through. I was told no, it's fine and left them. Please view the pictures I will attach. Obviously they were mostly undisturbed. One tub had a tear in the top tissue paper and one was gone through to some extent. The final tally after going back when texted I received $42.71 cents. I WAS BEYOND SHOCKED. My clothes never see the inside of a dryer. They are hung to dry and then put in a fluff cycle. I only dry sheets, bedding and towels. SO I ASK YOU DID MY CLOTHES LOOK GENTLY WORN? Absolutely and some were EXACTLY NEW, NEVER WORN. I repeat new and never worn, never dried, were not faded and shrunken. I had been PROFILED because you are made to SCAN you DRIVER'S LICENSE THROUGH A DEVICE BEFORE LEAVING ANYTHING. They texted me in about 2 hours again and I went back to find out the huge amount of money she begrudgingly gave out. I turned around and asked the person with me "Do you believe that". "I can not believe it". I WAS MORE THAN SHOCKED. They just shook their head and said "Let's get out of here". All the tubs were taken back out and put in our truck and we left with all of that MONEY. Another kicker here. All the young lady said was "Some of the men's shirts were kind of older." Let me give you an example of where I buy some of my clothes. I am a very small person. MAURICE'S, CATO, AMERICAN EAGLE, BUCKLE, LIFE IS GOOD, MARSHALL'S, DILLARD'S , KOHL'S PLUS MOSTLY FROM BOUTIQUES FROM DOWNTOWN AREAS WHEN WE TRAVEL. CHEAP? NO SO NOW I WILL ATTACH PICTURES. PICTURES SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. ALL ITEM LISTED ON WEBSITE ACCEPTABLE. SOCIAL MEDIA IS ALSO VERY USEFUL. NO STARS
