It's totally non-profit and volunteer operated, with proceeds going directly to a local mission -- unlike other "non-profits" in town, who spread dollars across a corporate hierarchy or pump revenue up to a national office. The shop is cluttered, so expect to do some digging. When you find something you like, the price tag will be next to nothing. I picked up an oxford cloth button down for a buck. First, she told us that the dress was "one of a kind; we've never sold it before, and no one else will have one like it, and it just arrived yesterday." She even got it out of the back to support this statement. However, after we'd made the (non-refundable) purchase, my daughter's friend sent her a picture of herself in the exact same dress, three weeks beforehand. Hmmm. Since Heat Ball gowns are required to be unique, part of our decision was based on her statement, which turned out to not be true at all. In addition, we were told that all dresses that had been on the rack for more than 2 weeks were 30% off. Obviously, since this one had "just arrived," it would not be part of the sale. But after learning that her friend had actually tried on this very dress three weeks earlier, we realized we should've received that quite substantial discount, but did not. As we were trying to decide whether or not to purchase the dress, I told the owner/manager that we'd like to step out for a minute and get a snack and discuss. She said, oh no; we're closing in 2 minutes. We foolishly let this rush us into an immediate purchase, then later checked the store hours and learned that they were scheduled to be open for another hour. And finally, when we were deciding whether to purchase this dress over another much less expensive alternative, the owner told us that this one would end up being far less expensive once alterations were made. This couldn't have been further from the truth, and my alterations professional couldn't stress enough how complicated an alteration this dress proved to be due to its fabric, pattern, and overall style. She gave us a discount, saying she felt bad for us being misled by The Royal We and having already paid so much for the gown.
