Great Hotel. Rooms are clean and spacious. Check in is at 4:00 pm, check out at 11:00 am. Pool area clean, but a bit loud due to the music playing whole day (mainly 80's). Direct Beach access, only 5 minutes walk to John's Pass Restaurant and Shops. No need to start your car.... (Private remark: who ever from the staff is driving that blue Stingray Corvette.... They s place is wonderful. Great location, just a five minute walk to John's Pass. Easy walk on the beach. The property is very clean and updated. Pool is beautiful and cleaner than any pool I've been too. The staff is amazing. Very friendly and always worked mg to make your stay awesome. I can't say enough great things about this resort. We will definitely be back. Also, they have a rooftop patio that overlooks the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. They are adding a bar and some food to it in the near future. I had a surprise vacation planned for my husband's 50th birthday, however due to the last two storms and all the devastation that the island and hotel suffered, especially the pool and hot tub I decided to change my reservation. I spoke with the front office, who were very accommodating and understanding, they went above and beyond to help me. It was clean place to stay on the beach but the price I was quoted and charged where way off! Also, I don't see on the website wh where this is a smoke free establishment even on balconies. As a smoker this was not acceptable. They also had signs with rules posted EVERYWHERE! I have never seem anything like this before. Don't do this and don't do that! read more

We have heard from multiple people now about the rude owner, Aaron. See the reviews below from Alexis and Brandon as examples. Apparently Aaron is rude, overly reactive, and hostile and fosters this behavior as well in his staff. (Note: Aaron claims to be the owner. Online according to the Better Business Bureau, he is listed as a manager.) Following the two devastating hurricanes that struck Florida, we have wanted to cancel the reservation we have next month. We have spent over a week trying to get a hold of the business. There has been no answer to our emails, the phone is not working, no alternative phone number given on the website, Facebook, or Instagram - although cell phones are reportedly widely functioning in the area - and no updates whatsoever after Oct 9 on the Facebook account until just yesterday. There is still nothing on their website. At the same time, we learned from a real estate friend in St Petersburg, whose neighbor is an upstanding business person in the area, who spoke to Aaron in person about another reservation, that he was hostile, said he can't cancel or change reservations, was unwilling to help with the travel agency they booked through, unwilling to help with a refund, and even tried to get the local police involved to get them to leave - all that so he can retain the booking charges (mind you, before the reservation has even began). What complete disregard Aaron seems to have for the impact of his behavior on the hotel's reputation. His customer service skills and comprehension sound abysmal. While we understand the stress and challenges implicit to natural disasters, the impact on business finances, and we want to support the area, we don't like that the place is managed by someone like him. We are going through other avenues to cancel our reservation and to not permit our card to be charged by this business, and we are going to visit the area later in the year but stay at a different establishment. read more

I was so looking forward to this stay, but I didn't get to stay. A friend of mine went out there to see if it was open since I could not reach anyone by phone. Did not want to arrive to find that hurricane Milton had consumed the hotel. I did not expect amenitiesl; I just wanted to be sure I would have a room. When I arrived however, because they did not like my friend, they canceled my reservation without contacting me and told me straight up i was because of how my friend acted. I get they might not have liked her but I am not her and I explained that but to no avail. I think it is very poor business practice on their part. Especially to not even notify me and only letting me know afteri stood in line to check on for 1/2 hour. Being that most of the hotels were either uninhabitable or full, I ended up driving around, trying to find a place four hours. I finally ended up staying at Crystal Palms, which is a lovely resort with really gracious people working there. Not sure if it is even legal for them to have cancelled me without notifying, me just because someone else they did not care for who was not on the reservation. I booked through super.com as of today, have not received any refund for this stay at all. The hotel says they never received payment and super .com says that they paid hotel and I have to get my refund from them. read more

My husband and I stayed 5 nights at this hotel. We did a lot of research before booking and ultimately picked this place based on the price and overall good reviews. We were pleasantly surprised from the start. The area at which it's located is very nice. Within walking distance to John's Pass (under .25 mile), many restaurants and shops. Around 1:30pm I called to see if our room was ready early and it was! Not a ton of parking, but you do get a free parking pass for your stay. We never had an issue finding a spot. We booked a beachfront room (I'd totally recommend the upgrade) and the view was breathtaking! Exactly as I'd hoped. We were on the top floor (room 411). The room was a nice size. I wouldn't say it was the fanciest room I've ever stayed in, but everything was clean and in its place. The manager did mention that they plan on renovating all rooms in the future. The kitchenette was a nice bonus (mini fridge, microwave, sink, utensils, cups, & plates). Maid service was done a little differently here. The maids didn't actually go into your room. Every morning you set out your dirty towels at your door which they replaced with clean ones and a check off list of things you might need (toilet paper, paper towels, etc). Everything was promptly delivered at 9:30am. On the 2nd floor there are 2 washers and 2 dryers. $2 each. Make sure to bring your own detergent. An ice machine is on this floor as well. You're right on the beach so getting to the ocean is just steps away from your room. Not very busy at all since there aren't any high rises competing for beach space. A nice surprise was that the hotel provided beach chairs, boogie boards, a couple umbrellas, sand toys, etc. All first come, first serve, but there were always plenty available during our stay. The pool was even better than expected. A decent size pool, hot tub, and a very shallow separate pool which would be great for kids. Lots of available chairs and a couple cabanas that you can rent. Lets talk about the renovations. Yes, they are building a huge new building behind what they have currently. Yes, there was construction noise during the weekdays. Did it bother us? Not really. I can't say we didn't notice it at times, but unless you decide to stay in your room or at the pool the entire day, it's really not a big deal. Construction should be done by fall. You can't knock the hotel for wanting to better their space! Even if you did stay at the pool the whole day while construction was going on, a lot of it was drowned out by the fountains around the pool and their music that was playing. The only con I can think of was the bed. I got used to it, but it was quite firm for my liking. I'd hope those get included in the renovations. Not really a con as I didn't care that much, but the hot tub was really just a warm tub...not much warmer than the pool. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be this way as it was warm enough outside or if it wasn't working properly. We walked to Lisa's Cafe which was a nice place for breakfast. The Candy Kitchen had ice cream and yummy treats. Sweet Brewnette's had THE BEST coffee. Castaway Taco Bar has great margaritas & tacos. We splurged one night and drove to Salt Rock Grill which did not disappoint. A no frills kind of hotel...clean and great location. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Decided we needed a little staycation on the beach and since I had an old groupon from here figured why not. When I called to make the reservation I mentioned I had an expired coupon but the paid value should still be good. "No problem" was their response and I got my beachfront studio suite without any hassle whatsoever. Check in was smooth, The desk clerks were super nice and helpful. They give you beach towels at check in as well as a parking pass. There are lots of rules at this property ($25 for lost key, $25 for lock out, no smoking on balconies, pool towels need to be signed for, zero noise tolerance policy) all put in place for the comfort of their guests and I didn't mind a one of them The room was very nice, large comfy bed, separate living room area (divided by a knee wall) gorgeous view of the beach, a kitchenette with frig, microwave , plenty of plates and glasses. The bathroom was standard but everything worked fine. There is a lot of noise through the doors, I could hear the road even with my door shut and being on the back (beach) side of the building. It did not however bother me at night once the traffic slowed down. With every amenity you could want, the gorgeous view, the nice beach area and the proximity to lots of great restaurants and bars, I'd come back here. Drove all the way out here just to be told upon arrival that they don't let anyone stay here that's under 25. Even if we have our dad stay with us they won't let us stay here, and never communicated that was a rule until we showed up. Apparently the owner makes up this rule for the month of march. Interesting how you can pick and chose who stays at your hotel, and when that rule applies. Extremely poor communication, poor service, and rude staff. They won't even let us park at their hotel for the day after driving out here and going through that huge fiasco. Would not recommend this unprofessional establishment to even my worst enemy. Place is horrible. Not much else I can say. The shower walls were covered with mold, the pool area was disgusting. No towels for the pool or beach area. When we approached the staff they blamed the customers for taking them to their rooms, that's why they didn't have any... I didn't realize the towel business was that hot of a commodity. The hotel also didn't seem to care about kids running all over the place at all hours being super loud. Do yourself a favor and find a better place. read more

Upon pulling up to the Barefoot Beach Hotel, I knew my stay was going to be amazing. The building is clean and easy to locate, with plenty of parking. Casey and Aaron -employees- offered us a room in their new building, which made our stay even more incredible. The room was immaculate and felt like a vacationers paradise; washer/dryer, full kitchen, huge bathrooms, and a beautiful balcony! Our view was picture perfect and we were steps away from a relaxing pool or a beautiful sunset. We loved this hotel because it is a 2 minute walk from the inlet and a large boardwalk with restaurants, bars, and shops. I will definitely be returning and recommend it to others! read more

This is my favorite hotel because it's literally RIGHT on the beach, close to St Pete, all of the rooms have balconies, when you are on your balcony you feel totally alone in an oasis, and because the whole place is very laid back. A beach hotel should be laid back. There are little cabanas you can sit at, basic beach towels they give you, the staff is friendly but they don't treat you like the royalty you aren't. The rooms are cute, and they all come with a fridge and microwave and little kitchen prep area. This is not a fancy corporate chain hotel. It's honest to goodness gulf coast Florida. And that is why I come here every time I go to the beach, which is a couple times a year. read more

Everything was nice until the next morning. We woke up and were gathering our belongs when we found what appeared to be bed bugs. Took photos of them and immediately went to the counter staff. They said the Mgr would give us a call soon. A few hours later we received a call from the counter person, he said the room was fully inspected and they found the bugs to "just" be young palmetto bugs. Nice, after googling a "Palmetto" bug found it to be actually be a cockroach. So we slept in two separate beds with cockroaches. This was no big deal after we called the manager who said bugs are common in the Florida area. No concessions were made what so ever to make up for the poor experience. Not offered anything, Just told not to worry". A formal complaint was filed with the health board. read more

To avoid what ended up being extreme Missouri cold, we looked into escaping to the Treasure Island, FL, area. We couldn't book the Sunset Vistas where we like to stay and opted for Barefoot Beach for 18 days. The rooms are small and appear recently remodeled. We had a microwave, refrigerator, ice available, laundry room available, a Television, queen size bed, and sofa with a pull out bed. There is a small pool which we didn't use as weather was pretty cool for us. It is not a Sunset Vista, but it had all we needed. The consumables were available by requesting needs in a packet set out each morning. The beach is of the fine sugar sand and the bay is almost reachable by jumping from the balcony. Parking is sufficient. There was a downside which us OCD can't understand, but I suppose is no big deal. We wanted to launder mid stay and carried our laundry to the laundry room only to find coin changer out of coins and no source for detergent. Upon asking, we found our only option was a grocery story. Packing up and getting our needs, we traipes with our new found quarters, laundry and detergent to the laundry room again to finish what could have been a short ordeal which took three times what should have been. Our thinking is if a laundry is available, resources to use it should also be available. So, a normal 5 star will only get 4 from us. read more

This is a beautiful, old school hotel on Madeira Beach. We rented a two bedroom suite for four nights in July 2018. Perfect space for a relaxing family vacation, and it is located right on the beach. Views of the beach from your room are complemented by the proximity to restaurants and shopping. Two pools and a hot tub are available on site in case you're tired of all the sand. This is a self-service space, which we really appreciated. No one on staff here will wait on you hand and foot. I personally find that annoying. If you want new towels, sheets, washcloths or other items, put your old ones outside your front door in the provided laundry basket. Within a few hours you'll have new ones. The furnishings are clean and nice looking, but not so precious that our little ones would easily damage them. Overall, this is a perfect space for a relaxing family vacation, right on the beach, with everything you need to make beautiful memories with your family. read more

The staff was not friendly at the front desk, the floors in the bathroom were covered in sand and obviously not cleaned when we first walked in, the bed was very uncomfortable and hard as well as the comforter (if you even can call it that), there tv was small and hung in a location not viewable from the bed, and the inside of the shower curtain was so covered in mold I had to pull it shut up by the curtain rod bc the rest of it was disgusting ( at first I actually thought it was dried vomit). Hotel was renovated in 2005 Hotel itself (we stayed in a beach view room) is fairly good. Like other reviewers state, don't let the outside fool you. Inside of rooms is fairly decent and not as run down. Hotel management and service was average. Nothing great. Had the smoke alarm chirping all night because of a low battery. Management really didn't show they cared to much. There are plenty of places to stay in this area. Can't say I'd recommend to a friend. We actually had a better experience and like the Crystal Palms Resort just on the other side of the bridge better. Granted it's not beach front, but the rooms are much nicer and management seems to be more engaged. read more

This place is awesome! I got a queen room with ocean view and it was perfect. Beautiful view, Room was in great condition and had a reasonable price. The pool area looks very nice as well. I will be recommending this place to everyone! There is a building in construction right in front of the hotel so Barefoot is hidden but all you have to do is drive behind it and there it is. The newly remodeled rooms are tastefully decorated and very clean, and we couldn't have been happier. We spent the entire day on the beautiful beach just steps from the hotel, and the swimming pool was great, too. My husband and I stayed at the Barefoot Beach Hotel on our trip from Key West through to Orlando (the scenic way). The place was perfect. We arrived in time to open a bottle of wine and watch the sunset over the Gulf. The room was clean and Cindy was good about leaving the key for us since we arrived after five. The walls are thin and you can hear your neighbor, but you shouldn't be spending a lot of time on your room when your in a beautiful place like Madeira Beach. We will be back. read more
