After reading the Yelp reviews for Bared Footwear promising nice shoes that were good for your feet and podiatrist recommended, I immediately made plans to get down there and check it out. I used to have orthotics and have a bit of a dodgy body so it piqued my interest. But mostly I thought their mens' shoes range could be the answer to my hospitality-worker husband's problematic feet and recent pain issues. He now has a really lovely looking pair of work shoes that won't kill his feet. Bonus for me, I found two really nice pairs of casual shoes for him that he equally loves. So while we didn't get them all there and then (shoes here cost between $200-$290 a pair) it looks like I will finally get to stop nagging him to stop wearing thongs out and get him into some decent weekend shoes soon! Wife win. The women's shoes range have flats, loafers and heels. Most have an ankle strap to hold you in and stop toe-clawing. I found them a bit bulky for what I'm used to, but they're super comfy and I think I'll probably end up with a pair of the loafer style that comes up higher on the foot and doesn't need the strap. Right now I'm holding out for their new season winter boots as I myself do a fair bit of running around on foot. The staff were really friendly and knowledgable. They assured us that if there were any problems with the shoes at all, we could bring them back and they can refit the insole to sort any issues. Apparently they get people bringing back shoes after years to readjust the sole - making the price tag not only worth the investment, but actually a pretty good bargain for what you're getting. The buckle actually broke on my husband's shoes on his first day of wear which we were pretty surprised by, but they fixed it immediately and gave him some free polish for the inconvenience. I've bought high heels from Bared and was stunned by its quality. Made of actual fabric (leather lined) it doesn't give you a long-wear (which I would expect from $250 shoes) and had stitches poorly done. The customer service is what makes me say that I'll never shop with Bared again. Take a week to reply, instead of helping with a refund try to sell more and generally don't seem at all keen to help. The fact that they don't do refunds was also poorly advertised on their website, so I only found out about it when it was too late. Such a waste of my time and money! read more

Don't look at the price tags first because they might come as a shock, if you don't know the reason behind them. Established by podiatrist, Anna Baird, these awesome shoes have been developed to optimise your gait, minimise foot discomfort and allow you to step out in style. My first experience at this shop was when a friend came to visit. She, like me is a shoe lover and was drawn to the pretty shoes in the window. We were at first both shocked by the price tags but soon understood why these shoes can seem a tad bit on the expensive side. We ventured inside anyway and she was attended to promptly. However, unlike regular stores, Bared really goes the distance to find you the perfect fit. The fantastic sales staff will actually measure your foot to make sure you get exactly the right size for your feet. Then you go into style and choose the material (they have a fantastic array of fabric, leather and patent option) for your dream shoes. But that's not all. They'll also recommend additional supportive removable foot beds and can advise you whether you should or should not use the detachable strap that comes with every pair of shoes. I have pretty great teeth. So great my dentist(s) keep trying to get me to do toothpaste commercials and tell me to only visit every few years. The tradeoff is that I have unbelievably awful feet. Before I turned 30 I'd had surgery on them twice (and I don't doubt there will be more to come). I know what "proper" shoes are like however, and for the most part, proper shoes are properly ugly. This is where Bared comes in. Created by a podiatrist, Bared only has a few styles of shoes, but with limitless colour combinations and professionals that know how to fit feet. In a time of terrible retail, I suspect Bared is still doing very well. The prices aren't bargain basement, but they're not hilarious either (particularly given you can have them made to order, and they're made in Australia). Someone truly amazing - yes I am looking at you Mac - introduced me to Bared Footwear a couple of weeks ago and I am truly in love. I am six foot tall. And klutzy. And have wonky feet. And fall over a lot. I don't think my choice of footwear in the past has helped much with my lack of coordination. Along with my stubborn refusal to get orthotics as I didn't want to wear Homy Ped shoes, I have suffered from sore feet for most of my life. The things we do for fashion, hey ladies? Along comes Bared - and it has literally saved my feet/life/style. Their range of shoes have been designed by a podiatrist to be funky, comfortable and good for your feet. What else could you want from your footwear? The store is decked out in cool wooden tones and asymmetrical displays. The staff is friendly and efficient. The range of shoes is impressive. They only have the one bricks and mortar store in Armadale (inner southeast) inMelbourne but you can order online, fear not! The day I went in there I was super excited and ended up buying three pairs of shoes - silver kicks (which I have been wearing non-stop since then), black parent brogues and black/silver ballet flats with ankle straps. They all look fabulous and are super comfy. I love them. Since then, I have also bought the leopard print ballet flats with ankle strap online. I once wore thongs in Canada all the way up to first snow. Not because I'm super cold tolerant or because of a dare, but because I really don't like wearing shoes. It's not that I don't like shoes, quite the opposite, it's just that shoe shopping sucks when you have feet like mine. Great arch support, super soft leather, different widths, grippy soles and unlike all the other good-for-your-feet shoes on the market, THEY'RE ACTUALLY PRETTY! Not many shoe shops still measure your feet and help you in and out of your shoes, but the staff at Bared actually insist on measuring your feet so that you get the perfect fit.
