Kind of a small station for such a busy city. Our train pulled in from Firenze at around 10 pm, but…read morethere were quite a few people milling about at that time. We exited the station towards the taxi stand, by the time we got there the two cars that had been waiting got fares and sped away. We stood in the queue for a few minutes, hoping a car would pull up, and after several minutes, one did. By then we had a line behind us, of travelers also waiting for a ride into the city.
Note, they did have quite a few of the rental scooters, which I briefly considered before realizing a) I am too old and was too tipsy to work one of those; 2) we weren't familiar with Italian driving laws and iii) we had no idea where we were going, and navigating a new city at night while on top of a rental scooter just seemed like a terrible idea.
The station was much busier the next day, when we returned for our trip back to Firenze. They have a few benches along the tracks, but not enough for every traveler waiting for a train.
Also, huge kudos to the station worker who sought us out as we waiting at the track for our train. There had apparently been an announcement that the train we were waiting for had been moved to another track, which we either missed completely or heard and didn't understand. Thanks to her we caught our train and made it back to Firenze on time.
