Two of them responded that they will "in a minute." They kept talking on the phone and made more phone calls on their mobile devices. I understood. It seemed like they needed a break. Upon the last five minutes of my wait, two Spanish-speaking guys walk up to the Spanish-speaking barbers on whether they were taking walk-ins. The barbers asked what kind of haircuts the guys wanted. After the guys answered, the barbers welcomed them in. That made me upset because instantly, I assumed racial bias as I am a dark-skinned Black man who is assumed to not speak Spanish or be Latinx like the barbers and customers. I am not Latinx, but I understand and speak enough Spanish to fit in places when I travel to Spanish-speaking countries. I used to like going to this barbershop for a couple years when the other barbershops in Flatbush and Ditmas Park neighborhoods had less than impressive barbers. I stopped going a few months before the COVID pandemic because I shaved my head and face myself. It looks like I should save my time and dollars and continue doing it myself until I move into a different neighbors with barbershops with less racist barbers.

No appointment needed, just walk in. It's cool that the shop's location is over 100 years old, but he's done a lot to overhaul it to feel modern. The overall vibe in there is not very inclusive as far as barbershops go but hey I just need a weekly haircut. My impression of this place is that it has good barbers that don't value their customers. On a couple of occasions I have come into this place in the evening and there are only 2 barbers there. The hours posted are Monday - Thursday 10am-9pm; Friday - Saturday 10am-10pm and Sunday 10am-7pm. Good luck getting a haircut on a slow day, (i.e. Monday or Tuesday) unless you know them personally. Barbers can never give you a schedule of when they will be in. You can call or text them but most of the time you never get a response. Once I asked what time will you be in on Saturday and I was told it depends how my Friday night goes. I find that to be an unacceptable response when you are offering a service. But hey others tolerate it and it seems to be their standard practice. It's sad that you have to chase down barbers to perform a service that they are being paid for. Maybe if they begin to lose their clientele then they will get their act together. For me I'm going where I am valued as a customer and advise you to do the same.
