Home course looking good. Fairways definitely getting that TLC. Some areas still need work, but compared to my last visit, it's looking real nyce... lol

Came here with my military buddies to try out this military Golf Course. Great place to play, no wait, very level wide open course, and you don't lose too many balls here. Unfortunately Cafe is not open and they don't have drink carts coming by.

We're late starters in the game of golf but, it's been 20 years. For years, I maligned golf as being the game for old folks AND not active enough. Well, I've been proven wrong...it's mentally and physically challenging. Yet, while playing this sport, you can still "stop and smell the roses" as you get to enjoy the beautiful scenery, fresh air, varying weather conditions, a park like walk that is at least 4 miles with varying terrain in 4 hours or less. Barbers Point Golf Course is a little gem for a Military course. Green fees are based upon military rank (active duty or retired) although, civilians are welcome. The fees are "reasonable" and similar to the municipal courses...we paid $26 per person for 18-hole play. Additional costs apply if you decide to ride an electric cart or rent a push cart while walking. The pro shop has a good selection of equipment, clothes and accessories with very friendly staff. This course is pretty straight-forward...by that, I mean the course layout is open with wide fairways, level lies, Kiawe tree lined hazard areas, and elevated holes that make you play them as targets to land on rather than bumping and running your golf ball. I also thought of the hole layouts as if I had déjà vu..long straight fairways or left or right doglegs that repeated yet varied distances. The course is in good shape with well-maintained grasses in the fairways and on the putting surfaces. Be careful as the course presents its hazards in the forms of sand bunkers or if you stray off the fairway, you will be caught up by the Kiawe trees or brush. I like this course...just got to hit 'em long and straight!

I have been officially bit by the "golfing bug" and LOVE this course! Just a few months ago, I had no clue what a fairway was, and if you asked me how the greens were, the only thing that would've came to mind was the pretty color of the grass :) This course here in Ewa is an awesome and affordable option among the many high-priced courses in the area. The first thing I love is the price, totally reasonable and their twilight rates are fantastic. My hubby and I golf a 9-hole twilight for $28 with a cart. Not bad at all for a fun-filled pau hana round :) The course is well maintained and for the most part, very flat. The surrounding wooded areas are pretty brutal, as those keawe trees make retrieving stray golf balls a pretty tough adventure. But lucky for me, I keep them on the pretty decent fairways unlike my hubby. The greens are well-kept and some of them are very generous in size. The course layout is a bit repetitive with either long straight fairways or doglegs, but no water hazards *yay* and lots of bunkers to play in. Oh, don't let me forget to mention the trees, lots of large trees! Nevertheless, I find it a great course to practice and it is always fun. The course pace is always casual, and it has a very relaxed feel with fellow novice golfers mixed in with lots of retirees with lots of time. Nice and slow. It's not usually a problem to walk-on without a tee-time during the week but it does get a bit busier on the weekends like most other golf courses. We can usually stick with our two-some, but we have been paired with other two-somes as well as individual golfers during their busier times. I found it a bit awkward at first, but I realize that most people are out there to have fun and it doesn't matter how good (or bad) you are. Someone else mentioned to be prepared to catch the whiff of the nearby sewage treatment plant. This is a true statement, but keep in mind that the more expensive course right down the road also shares the "breezes", but there you pay five times more to smell it :) I have not visited the driving range because I prefer a range with real grass but it seems well-appointed and it closes at dusk. The pro shop has everything you might possibly need with fair prices and somewhat friendly staff. The snack shop is also available with cold beverages and a large variety of snacks to enjoy there in their dining room or lanai, or to take along on the course. Basically a great all around course, and definitely a hidden gem. I am so lucky that we live only five minutes away!!!

my first time experiencing real grass range practice! i utilized the driving range twice during my stay in kapolei. both times there was plenty of space to hit balls for me and my mom/brother. there are two areas for putting practice, where we had friendly putting contests :) small bucket of balls is $2! full basket is $4 beautiful view free!

Course layout is nice. Course isn't hard but it's never really corwded. I come here often and the staff at the shop are great. This is one of my favorite courses to play at.

Is the restaurant at the golf course still open?

It is now open. It is next door to the golf course, but not an MWR restaurant so open to all. The golf course though is a DoD facility and requires proof of ID.

They were running a special for $225/player (normally $275) with a 10-day advanced booking. They need a credit card to hold the reservation and you pay upon arrival. We had a 10:50 tee time and everything ran on time and check-in was smooth. Once checked-in, you'll present your receipt to the staffer who will give you a small bucket of balls. They took our clubs at the parking lot stand and placed the clubs on our cart. We grabbed a few clubs and walked over to the grass range, which was in decent shape. The course is great for all skill levels because it's pretty wide open and very well manicured. The rough is cut down pretty low so even if you miss the fairway, you still gotta shot at it. Playing the blues, the course is pretty long but manageable. The greens were in great shape and bunkers were great looking, although luckily I didn't have to play out of any of them. While it's a well maintained course, I thought the layout was kinda boring and predictable. Lots of good views and photo ops around the course, although the course has minimal ocean views. We had some vouchers from our hotel which we could use at the pro shop but not the snack bar. We ended up with a couple of bag tags, ball markers and a logo ball (gift set) which they engrave your name in the bag tag which is pretty cool for $20 for everything. The rest of the pro shop is pretty pricey though. Overall, glad we got to play it. I think the price point is what would keep me from playing again, but it's hard to beat when it's less than 5 minutes from our hotel. We got paired with a great couple, shout out Chuck and Cindy who were also visiting. It made for a memorable and fun day out on the course.

Andrew is one of the best golf coaches in Hawaii for all skill levels…read more After not having golfed for maybe 10 years, I finally decided to get back into the sport. Prior to my golfing hiatus, I had taken quite a few lessons over the span of a year. My best friend was looking at getting into the sport, so I suggested that she take lessons to build a good foundation for her game. Unfortunately, it was difficult for me to find openings for the golf coach that I previously worked with due to his popularity. I had been using the driving range at Bay View to improve my game. It was there that I casually met Andrew Ka-Ne. I explained that I was looking for a golf coach and talked story with him to get a feel for his overall golf and coaching philosophies. We exchanged contact info and he texted me about his rates and availability. Andrew has the best hourly rates in Hawaii, and provides more instruction and support than other coaches charging double his rates. Simply put, Andrew is an excellent coach and his rates do not accurately reflect the value he provides. Andrew's golf philosophy is a nice blend of old and modern swing theory, supplemented by a strong integration of cutting edge golf technology (i.e. FlightScope Mevo+, swing cameras) and swing aides (i.e. wrist angle straps, alignment tools, ball striking tools, weight transfer board, etc.). Golf as a whole has significantly changed since the time I took lessons and, unlike other coaches, Andrew's view of the game is not stuck in the 1990s, 2000s, or 2010s. After sitting through a few of his lessons with my best friend and seeing her improve significantly, I was convinced that Andrew has a lot to offer. He is knowledgeable and encouraging and he has a very keen eye for spotting problematic swing mechanics. Andrew is very good at designing various drills to accomplish the same thing. He told me that every student learns differently, and it is about teaching in a way that clicks with the student's brain. Many other coaches are rigid in their approach and force their students into swing mechanics that mimic the touring pros (i.e. wrist angle must be exactly X degrees, rotation must be exactly X amount, spine angle must match [insert name] tour pro, etc.). This is not Andrew. He understands that people are built differently and assists his students with creating the most efficient swing within their own physical capabilities and utilizing their personal strengths. One of the things that I admire the most about Andrew is his commitment and dedication to golf. He will be around for decades to come, which is one of the main things I weighed when looking for a coach. Ideally, you want your coach to be available as you continue on your golf journey. This is especially helpful if you hit a plateau or see your scores flattening out. At that point, it is crucial to have a coach that can provide a series of "refresher" lessons to get you back on track. Overall, I think that Andrew has the most comprehensive approach to improving his students' games, and he genuinely cares about the achievement of his students. Without a doubt, Andrew goes above and beyond and exceeds all expectations.

His lessons are enjoyable and he makes golf fun. Other golfers have also approached me after my lesson to request Andrew's contact information. That's how good he is!
