I found myself sued by my ex-husband 6 years after my divorce frivolously so, but also contrary to what my divorce agreement states. No lawyer on earth should take on a case such as this as it was entirely made up out of lies and most clearly went against the prior agreement. It can also not be won. But such lawyers exist, making up cases that arent there and convincing their client that there is something to get. They do that because no matter if they win or draw, they get paid. The opposition did their best to delay agreements by filing motions and letters ect for a hefty continuing fee and muddying the waters with ever made up claims. I found myself at the wake of this situation and have to say, the entire Barber Team (Elizabeth, Rachael, Nicole, Adriana) was excellent. They never sought to increase my fee's by responding to claims that needed no response. They kept it short and to a minimum. The opposition in true form, continued making up claims, writing more letters, only pretended to be amicably, in the meantime always planning for court date and filed after 6months worth of "letter feeing". On Court day, the opposition also had a plan to dismiss the case after incurring all fees to all parties based on a loophole. Joel was a step ahead of them and their dismissal was dismissed! I found that it's entirely irrelevant how ugly a lawyer can write letters. To me, this is not practicing law, it's keyboard courage. It all comes down to them really knowing their stuff and Joel does. Even loopholes have to be used appropriately. When not applicable, they cannot be used. I was so impressed with Joel's foresight. Joel know's what he is doing and he can argue. I enjoyed watching him make sense of all the muddy waters the opposition had been conjuring up. He remained on point in all relevant matters and I can tell you, I never imagined a day in court can FEEL THIS GOOD. Being validated by Joel doing a fantastic job separating lies from truth but also by the judge. Without Joel arguing the way he did, without his team doing a fantastic job and without the kindness of that office (Elizabeth, you could not be any nicer) , this would not have happened. Truth remained true that day and I liked it a great deal!! In a field such as this, where it's all about disagreements, constantly so... Choosing the right attorney for a divorce is not easy, I do not think anything with a divorce is ever easy. Working with Joel Barber and his team on my divorce made the process as easy as they could for me. Joel's style is a refreshing mix of directness, truth, and reality. I always felt support from Joel and the office and never felt like the truth was ever something that was bent ever, like you hear most folks say about attorneys. COVID hit and the courts shut down. While we waited, my ex and I worked together to find the cheapest and fairest way to get this settled. We worked on our own agreement and brought it to Joel and the office. Katie took the lead and helped us rework the agreement to meet the court guidelines. The amount of patience that Katie displayed while she answered all the questions that my ex had on the paperwork was truly remarkable. Joel Barber is a ROCK STAR!!!! I am a good guy, that just gets in to trouble here and there. First time I used Joel it was for a DUI, I was looking at 6 months in jail for a 4th arrest with a DUI, and Joel saved my life, and got me no jail, and just had to do a program. Now was the 2nd time I used Joel to save the day and once again like a super hero, got my case dismissed where I would have had to do 1-3 months in jail. Joel abuses clients. He is awful. I was vulnerable and scared and he took advantage. He pretends to be your professional attorney and friend and then abuses the privilege. I paid ahead of time and paid in full. I figured out he was going through my personal texts, emails, computer somehow. It was frightening. Despite his need to hack and stalk his own clients for what reason I will never know he FAILED to find hidden assets and uncover hidden businesses by the opposing party. I also saw that he was taking credit for the opposing attorney's work and then charging me for it. He lies about client cases he has taken in the past. Clearly, I am not the only one.
