Desperately needed an affordable hair cut and time out after an exhausting few weeks in Brisbane supporting a critically ill relative in hospital. After Googling, I decided to risk Barber Girl - BIG mistake. I couldn't wait to leave the salon after the most unpleasant and disconcerting experience I've ever had in a hairdresser's chair. The barber was painfully slow, nicked my ear with the clippers, ripped out the hair roots with the scissors ("it's the most effective thinning technique") and left me with a painful burning sensation across the back of my neck after shaving. The pain grew steadily worse after I left and, by sun down, I was alarmed to see large blisters and red welts had developed on my neck. I took painkillers and tried to soothe the area with a cold washer, to no avail. The next day, the back of my neck was covered in large embarrassing, open, weeping wounds - not ideal when visiting somebody in ICU. I showed a professional hairdresser who said the clippers must have been misaligned and had "chomped" into the skin, leaving it at risk of any number of infections (including hepatitis and HIV). This was more than just a bad $41 haircut ($11 more than I pay my regular barber), plus I had to pay again for another cut a few days later to fix up the crooked neckline, uneven sides and "helmet" look. After emailing the owner, she eventually replied and offered a free cut, which I couldn't use as I'd left Brisbane. After more emails, she agreed to refund the cut (but not the second cut I had elsewhere to fix up the mess or any compensation for distress) and I provided my bank account details. I'm still waiting for the refund. Disappointing. Cut and burned. read more
