This is not so much a review of Mel's, but of Dave, a barber that works out of Mel's…read more I have been a loyal customer of Mel's Barber shop for almost two years now and have had the pleasure of Dave cutting my hair for almost the entirety of that time. Long ago I was on a search for someone who could give me the hair cut I was looking for...that of a modern pompadour. I could tell from Dave's own hair and the collection of Pomades at his station that he was the one to try at Mel's...and I've been a loyal customer ever since. Dave provides consistent cuts, good banter and a good price. If you are looking great clipper work, a beard trim or straight razor shave...seek out Dave, he won't let you down. I can't speak for the other barbers...so put your name down for Dave.

They had a totally separate kids waiting room with games and books that kept my son entertained while he waited his turn. He had his hair cut by Sandy who was just awesome. So friendly and she kept telling me (and my son) what a well behaved young man he was. This means the world to me because Ronin is autistic and his mood varies greatly. It was nice to have someone appreciate him for the boy that he is. They also had free plastic fireman hats for the kids post-cut, and lollipops, gum, and for the adults Kenny had brewed some amazing Kona Hawaiian coffee! The cut was $15, with tip, $20 (Happy New Year) but well worth it. We'll be back!

Don't bother with Headlines barbershop by Sunlake off Oakstead…read more My son had an appointment with Joel at 4:45 at the Sunlake store. As I was walking up Joel was returning and said he needed 15 minutes. I walked in as he took a customer and seated him at our appt time. He said it would be real quick. The guy had a beard and almost no hair so how long could it take? 30 MINUTES later my son said let's go. I walked over to Joel and said we were leaving. He actually seemed surprised. I told him that I had yelled to get my son out the door to be on time as I told him being on time is important. Joel said he was done (didn't look like it as the customer wasn't moving) and I replied at that point I didn't care. He then offered to cut for free. I didn't care. NO APOLOGY, NO EXPLANATION. I'm sure everyone got an earful how unreasonable I was after I left. I hope that guy you gave our time to is a repeat customer and tips well, because we will never return. This is how to tank your business. I am more than happy to spend more money else where.
