The beef was burnt with zero actual beef flavor, the sausage was nasty and straight yikes, and why is there even ham on a burger? It's supposed to come with pineapple too (I ordered it without and they took it off, but still... why is that even a thing?). On top of the horrible food, their AC was probably broken because it was hot as hell inside. I might as well have just ordered the bread because everything about this experience was bad. Hard pass on the burger here. TLDR: don't come. Nasty and hot here.

An Absolute Hidden Gem for Authentic Flavor in Lafayette! If…read moreyou are tired of the same old, watered-down Tex-Mex and want a meal that hits you with incredible, vibrant flavor, you need to get to La Papa Loca. This place is easily one of the best spots in town for genuine Mexican and Honduran comfort food. The absolute star of the show is their namesake dish, The Papa Loca. Forget everything you think you know about baked potatoes. They take a massive, perfectly baked potato, load it up with rich butter, melted mozzarella, fresh cream, and your choice of beautifully charred, seasoned meats like al pastor or arrachera (skirt steak), all served up with crisp tortilla chips. It sounds like a wild combination, but it is pure, comforting magic. Everything else on the menu hits the mark, too: The Street Tacos: Served the right way with fresh cilantro, diced onions, and incredible homemade salsas that pack a beautiful punch. The Gorditas & Tortas: Crisp, fluffy, and stuffed generously with perfectly seasoned meats that are never dry. The Atmosphere & Drinks: The vibe is incredibly welcoming and down-to-earth. Plus, if you catch their happy hour, their 2-for-1 margaritas and micheladas are the perfect refreshing pairing to the savory, rich food.  The staff is always friendly, the portions are massive for the price, and the food comes out hot and fast. Whether you are hitting up the Johnston Street location or grabbing food to go, La Papa Loca delivers an authentic, satisfying meal every single time. Don't skip this place--it's a local treasure.

The chips and salsa were good, especially the warm chips and slightly smoky salsa. My husband really enjoyed his enormous steak burrito. Overall, a pleasant dinner with good service and generous portions. We'll might go back to try some other menu items.

However, I found this PERFECTLY portioned lunch called the Monterrey. It's basically a ~1 cup portion of a choice of protein (Shrimp and Chicken are my favorites), ~1 cup grilled veggies, and ~1.5 cup of Mexican rice. Also, their chips and queso are AMAZING.

I ordered a rice bowl and there were cucumbers and sour cream present. And not one ounce of flavor. Even after drowning the creation with leftover salsa and Tabasco sauce--yes Tabasco sauce because there was no Mexican hot sauce to be found. The birria tacos were a lot more palatable but the flavor of the consommé was overpowered by the amount of cilantro of lime. Decent chips and salsa for the table but it would take a lot to ruin chips and salsa.

Typical Mexican food, not impressive but plentiful servings and everyone at our table of 8 was satisfied. The cheese grits were delicious. Yes, I recommend this place! Cheers!

Again, for the portion and price not worth it. Overall good place. Just overpriced for the portions served and price. I've had as good or better for less.

La Espuela has held-up very well. See my fav's on prior reviews…read more Same owners & operation have a slightly more upscale place, "El Corazon", in the center of our City, just across Main Hwy from our historic Church. Espuela has slightly better prices; Corazon has a bit more comfortable seating. About a draw. At Corazon, parking lot is in rear. Also they now have SOME seasonal local seafood like boiled crawfish. Louisiana has law making restaurants post whether their seafoods are from Louisiana, or "imported". This somehow misses the customer's point; we are fine with seafoods from other states', as their products are from our own Gulf of American/Mexico, just not from the far east. The ceviche de camarrones here is not up to either Yucatan/Quintana Roo/Tamaulipas standards, nor our local quality. Other dishes we've tried are good to very good. Right off of the Ambassador Caffery Parkway, it used to be called the El Taqueria Louisiana Dollar #2 or something like that. I guess it's now renamed as El Cazador. Inflation unfortunately brings the pricing up pretty high which is $3.50 per taco. I used to read that it was 4 tacos for $5 back before COVID effed everything up. I had reservations about if I wanted to order here but the smells had me hooked so I did 5 tacos mix of barbacoa, cabeza, carnitas x2, and asada. The lady in the truck was super sweet and the food got to me quickly. Upon unwrapping and eating everything in the hotel room, I like how everything was packaged and they threw in grilled onions, and a serrano pepper for spice. The tacos tasted good; juicy meats with onions/cilantro accompanying it. While I'm not thrilled about the price charged, I can't complain too much as the taste is there. Cash only FYI. Maybe there is somewhat of a decent taco game in Louisiana!
