Ever put a piece of bacon in your mouth so perfect you cried? I have here.
Stepping away from my first ever experience at Barahonda, I checked the time and was blown away to see that 4 hours had passed since we were seated. This is my favorite restaurant on earth.
Inventive with traditional flavors, exotic but made with local ingredients, fancy but cozy...I could go on. Come here when you have the time and desire for a true European style dining experience. They provide sample menus of what's available on their website, usually consisting of a 4-5 course meal and something more extravagant with 10+ courses.
Words can't really describe the delectable food/art, so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. The flavors and textures are as bold and varying as the pictures. On my most recent trip, I had a foie gras cake topped with burnt orange marmelade. On prior trips, I've had the single most memorable food item in my life: a cube of what I think was braised bacon served in a perfect light broth in a tilted wine glass with condensed smoke. I literally had a tear come out of my eye!
The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, situated on the second floor of a wine production facility in the Spanish countryside. You'll need a car to get here, about a 1 hour drive from Alicante. The service has always been professional, but note that you'll want to bring a set of Spanish skills as well.
I could go on and on about this place, but all the rest of the information you'd like to know about is on their website. read more
