I love bars, and I'm a serious sucker for sandstone, the king of all building materials. Aesthetically perfect and historically significant, sandstone makes anything bad-ass and beautiful . . . and you should see what it does to Bar 100, a marquis destination in an area awash with ye oldey timey boozers. Huge, high ceilings, darkwood floors, light streaming in through giant windows, and a penchant for partying that blows the pants off me damn near every time I go there. The other month it was their birthday party with art installations and live entertainment, today it was the Superbowl, with 50c buffalo wings and the game on a colossal 3.5m big screen. Had lunch here last week, and we sat in the outdoor section which was almost too bright. The atmosphere outside was pretty good even for a mid week lunch though I imagine it would pick up on the weekends and really shine. I had the trio of sliders - beef, chicken and pork. Which sounded awesome on the menu, and which look great in the photo, but what you don't get from the visual is that they were quite dry. Did I mention how bright it was yet? One of our entourage had the Gamberi pizza and really ended up regretting it, because it was mucho grande on the garlic and poco pequeno on the prawns. I also regretted it as I was forced to endure 63 minutes of death by passive garlic breath as a participant on a conference call later that day. Travelling inside to get drinks we were greeted with a dank dungeon dimly lit by magenta neon sleaze. I'm sure I spotted a raised dais, all that seemed to be missing was stripper pole steel. Returning outside again I was reminded just how bright it was. My eyes struggled to readjust, and it seemed almost ridiculous that there wasn't some sort of trendy sail or shade set up to block the obvious saturation of sunburst that this outdoor patio was forced to endure... Was I burning? Was I burnt? I had to swap seats to ensure shady coverage, and it wasn't until we'd been there for literally 45 minutes the wait staff decided to show off the electronic shade cloth they'd decided wasn't worth using till most of us were lobster bisque red. So how was the service? It wasn't what you'd expect from a restaurant but is maybe indicative of a bar selling bistro style meals. Everything came out at different times. Would we go again? I can almost bet we will, but no doubt we'll skip the garlic, ask for the shadecloth straight up, and leave our expectations at home. priceless tip: Bring sunnies (and maybe even a hat) if you plan on sitting out the back of Bar 100. read more

Not the bar but the restaurant downstairs, we couldn't find it as it's under a different name, but otherwise a fantastic place to dine, really great pizza, not thick and doughy or really thin and crispy, was just right and the toppings were perfect, and entree was great too, loved the suggested wine also, and really reasonable price for the location, great service too that really knew what she was offering, definitely would go back if we are ever there again! read more

Barr 100 is one of the few bars at the Rocks. Came here few times at different days and different times. Saturday early afternoon the place was not really busy upstairs - good place to catch up with girlfriends , have a yummy cocktail (their wine was good too) More people were downstairs in outside area. Friday and Saturday night is a different story. Once we had to line up but was worth it. The music was great. They had live band and a DJ and the place was packed. Ordered daily special burger & pizza for only $10 each. Great price, substantial size and tasty. Also ordered pork belly, but not highly recommend dish unless you like heavy fried pork belly. Bit too oily and too fried for my taste. There is seating area outdoor, ideal for group. Several heaters located outdoor area, so good to be out during winter time as well. Only downside is that there are people who smoke outside, so if you hate the smell, then it might be better to stay indoor. There are some great specials and happy hour deals throughout the week, so check out! On the menu, it said tuesday is cocktail special day, so good to check out if you want creative unique cocktails! A great place to grab a lunch at when strolling around a sunny day in the rock. Its just a short walk from Circular Quay and you will enjoy your food best on their patio. Its a nice elevated place which will provide you with some sunshine if you arent afraid of getting fried. Menu comprehends a wide cariety of dishes, but its not to fancy or advanced. I would suggest going with their flatbread to share, which is served in a funny way and plenty of food to the both of you. Service is good, but you order by the counter and then served by the table. Didnt get to try this place later at night, but i heard it should be a great spot to grab a few drinks at to start it off. And also some days, stay and play an all nighter here. Casual food in a nice package is a spot on description that wont make you disappointed. So if you are in the rock looking to recharge, give this place a try! read more

Bar 100 is in a great building that's on a great location so a couple of us thought it would be a great place to kick start our Friday night on a long weekend, and grab a quick meal as we settled in to our 3 days of R and R. The general bar/ restaurant area has a nice modern, relaxed feel to it. There was a live singer somewhere in back, and although we couldn't see her from the entry she sounded great and added to the easy going atmosphere. Confident we would easily unwind we sat down to dinner and that's what this review is about - my dining experience. The first thing we realised when we were seated is that the speakers feeding the music are directly over the restaurant seating, so when milling around the bar the music is an enjoyable addition to your conversation but when sitting down to eat it stops it. As you can't see the band, you are left looking at one another around the table while listening to them. Thankfully they were good, so even though conversation was out of the question we could enjoy. The next thing I realised is that the head waiter (or boss man) was standing within a metre of our table, and although we could not hear him it was evident that he was not at all happy with what was going on at several tables (including ours) as his very jerky pointing and animated facial expressions when talking to waiters made it abundantly clear things were not going well in the dining area. I understand that this guy was just trying to do his job, but whoever planned the seating and the kitchen so that he is facing the restaurant as he does it needs to think about how difficult it can be for guests to have fun when it's abundantly clear the staff are miserable. Opting for a healthier choice, I decided to have the lamb and haloumi salad for dinner. At about $20 The promise of slow cooked marinated lamb, with freshly pan fried haloumi had my taste buds dancing in anticipation. Unfortunately what arrived was as disappointing as the seating. Cold shaved lamb and cold, rubbery haloumi were mixed in with sliced tomatoes and lettuce. The tomatoes were floury so I left them alone, and the salad had no dressing so the lettuce was just lettuce. The lamb was okay, but like any cold, shaved meat it was quite dry, and the haloumi was really chewy. I was starving so I got through it, but it was dry and chewy and needed a lot of pepper to give it flavour. Unfortunately all of us ordered the salad and found it wanting, so I can't elaborate on the menu. For me, the highlight of dinner was the house Cab Sav which was really good, and most of the wait staff were friendly so although I would never recommend Bar 100 as a place to eat, I will go back with a crowd of people and try the bar only experience in future.....if we are lucky the same band will be playing and we can sit out back and enjoy them while we drink. read more

A bar with a great vibe right in the middle or The Rocks and next to the International Terminal. Just a short walk from Circular Quay. The food isn't too bad but by no means good. For the location and what you're paying you are getting a decent meal but the presentation and quality of food does lack something. Lots of daily deals with an otherwise good menu. The service varies greatly depending on who you get served by; Supurb to woeful. Caters well for strollers and groups large and small after you get past the stairs. read more

I accidentally stumbled across Bar 100. I didn't know it existed and I'm not sure if I entered via the front or back but one thing that I do know is that I'm glad I did enter! After walking up the stairs from what I now realise is the back (I think!), I did a quick lap around inside and out and was happy with what I saw. Me and my companion decided on the outdoor area which basically over looks the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Cirqular Quay. We grabbed and drink and as you do, read over the menu. There was so much to choose from. The chicken and haloumi cigars and the mini wagyu beef burgers caught the eye although from the share plates, bar snacks, pizza and main menu's I'm sure you'll find something you can sink your teeth in to. There's even a cheese platter if you so desire. So now that you know this place exists, it's worth a pop in! read more

The main bar hosts a house dj and a large dance floor, perfect for a great night out on the town. The staff are friendly and welcoming, making sure our glasses were always full... the only thing that really matters when you are out at a bar! My boyfriend and I came here as my parents gave us a Living Social voucher for Christmas. We started with a cider on the terrace. It's a nice spot even though the Overseas Passenger Terminal obstructs the view to the harbour. The sandstone building is pretty to look at and the area is open and spacious and good for large groups. We then ventured inside for dinner and ordered a seafood platter and bottle of sauvignon blanc. The inside area is more upmarket and quiet than outside. Although one of the walls is covered in fluro trees which is a bit strange! The seafood platter was nice, we particularly liked the whole barramundi and salt and pepper calamari. The upstairs bar didn't look that nice when we walked past so I would stick to the terrace and restaurant if you come here for drinks and/or dinner. They also have weekly specials like $12 burgers (instead of $20) on Mondays and $12 pizzas on Tuesdays. read more

The food is typical drunky fare -- you don't know any better and it doesn't matter, because by the time you're eating it's smashed-o'clock. I've grabbed lunch and a drink here a couple times as well. I would have rather eaten dog food then had the dinner that was served. All three pasta dishes that were delivered were terrible. We ordered the shrimp, crab, and fettuccine chicken and they were all awful. Then we wanted to get moving to try another restaurant and the waitress took 30 minutes to get our check, she was trying to give a discount when we stated we didn't care and just wanted to leave to try somewhere else. Sandstone, awe inspiring expansive, intimacy is void here at this mammoth space called Bar 100. I take a booth seat and await my company and attempt to move the little black mushroom stools with my foot while I am talking on the phone and hit hard ceramic - ouch. Ignoring my stupidity I take everything in. Slick professional staff, large windows still reminiscent of the days bygone as the Mariners Church which have monolithic views of a towering cruise ship blocking any potential view of Sydney Harbour. There's an impressive large DJ box in a corner and I imagine this place would get packed to the rafters. Within 10 minutes this imaginary thought becomes a reality. Suits, tourist, possibly visitors from the cruise ship seem to flow in together as I race to the bar to order my lemon, lime and bitters to beat the queues. Yep I'm up for a wild night with this choice of poison. My friends call as they are already in the area called 8brothers about to order food. Surprisingly without a map I find this bar and it's equally packed, we talk amongst ourselves and decide to hit the Chapel bar after an hour or so. And I use to think that the Establishment was massive - it is a dwarf in comparison. Overall a big beautiful space, the music is starting to amp and hey I think whatever night you're up for it will be big one here at Bar 100. read more

I came here for lunch with my partner. The service was incredibly slow and unfriendly except for the doormen and food runner. After waiting half an hour our food came, my burger was ok but the patty was dry as cardboard. My partners steak which he ordered medium came and was cooked thoroughly well done. After sending it back and ordering it medium rare and waiting another half an hour the steak came and again was overcooked, dry and tasteless. Would recommend Opera bar on the other side of the quay and to steer clear of this place. Ripoff, dull and unfriendly. read more
