After exploring the windy alleys of picturesque Bordighera, Italy (about one hour's drive from Nice), we decided to enjoy lunch at this hidden trattoria. Upon reaching the restaurant, one can't help notice the charm that radiates from its interior and covered outdoor patio. Garibaldi is the quintessential small Italian eatery that you hope to find in an Italian village.
The menu offers the traditional Italian fare of pasta and seafood dishes and it's a place where the locals convene during the weekend. To kick off our lunch, we ordered the Assortment of Cured Meats platter consisting of various types of ham from the region. It was simple yet a pleasing appetizer with fresh bread.
After the appetizer, we sampled the fried fish platter and baked cod with Ligurian vegetables. I found the cod to be tasty and flaky however the dish was soaked in too much oil. I ended up leaving most of the vegetables on my plate. The fried fish platter was prepared well and the variety of fish presented was impressive and representative of the region.
Overall, Garibaldi was somewhat disappointing considering the number of eateries in the area. If you enjoy fried fish, then Garibaldi is a good choice. read more
