Show up and sit down. Within 1 minute they will be offering you food ready to eat. Steak or pork or shrimp empanadas or this or that. It is all good. Also the drinks are great and the draft local beer is great. I don't know half of what I ate but it was all excellent and for the price I am stuffed beyond what I normally want; but the food was so good I had to keep trying more. Can't wait to come back on my next visit to this city. Word of wisdom from a local was to arrive after 7:30pm. They gear up even more "tapas-style" food options later ok n the evening as more locals show up. Don't pass this place up. Several of the host and servers spoke great English and were very happy to help explain things. read more

This place was a great find! Whenever I travel I try to find a place where the locals go and Bar Coronel came through in the clutch. When you order off the menu, your best bet is to start with a few apps and let the waiters take it from there. They will come by every 5 minutes or so with a new platter for you to try. I was expecting to eat light and I left the place stuffed to the gills - great food, very friendly staff. I speak very little Portuguese but can the Brazilians can generally get by on Spanish spoken very slowly. The only thing you really need to know is "chopp" which is a draft/tap beer in your choice of claro o oscuro, basically a lager vs a stout. The dark pint is excellent served to the brim and allowed to settle as the head separates from near the bottom. Ambiance is typical Brazilian open air corner bar with tables inside and out. It was starting to fill up on a Monday night by 9. I can only imagine this place on the weekend! read more
