The linguine carbonara caught my attention when I grazed over the menu. I've learned over previous trips to France, two of the safer bet pasta dishes at a French eatery including spaghetti bolognaise and spaghetti carbonara. Reliably, the pasta dish I ordered at Genève did not disappoint.
First, I loved the presentation of the dish. Like authentic carbonara dishes, the centerpiece of the plate was a raw yolk served in a quarter egg shell. I was also fond of the balsamic vinegar "signature" on the right side of the plate.
At first taste, you could tell the pasta was homemade. The carbonara sauce was rich and decadent, and the entree was topped with a healthy amount of bacon and garnished with fresh parsley and grated parmesan. I soaked up the lingering sauce with some slices of French baguette afterwards. With reasonable pricing (the dish was approximately 8-9 euro) and a trendy ambiance, I would recommend Le Grand Café de Genève to any tourists strolling through Lyon.
