One of our best meals in Lyon, even President Marcon dined here on the same night we were there…read more Its upscale, especially if you eat indoors. Lots of suits and well dressed people (dresses, jackets and slacks, etc). We had come after the Women's World Cup so was a tad under dressed, but they were polite and kind and said it was ok to dine there. PLAT: A few got the salad lyonnaise. The lardons are huge, it's a meal in and of itself. The croutons are crispy and butter nuggets of delicious carb. The poached egg is done to perfection. The lettuce is frisse so it delicate. They have a plat and entree size, and the plat was generous (it was a deep bowl!) The burrata came with ratatouille, which was also generous in portion. It's very rich, oh so creamy and cool and tasty. The ratatouille had a nice deep rich tomato base and the vegetables (in cubes vs circular slices) had a nice structure to hold up well to the creamy cheese. Also shareable. Last plat was the foie grais pate. That crust is so buttery, flakey and delicious. The pate was equally good. It came with cornichons and salad on the side. This was sharable too, but I didn't ;) ENTREE: The star entree was the poulet (chicken) stew. It's 100% comfort food that you can't stop eating until everything is gone. In addition to chicken, there were carrots and potatoes. The beef tartare was wonderful, rich, robust, little bit of heat (I think tabasco?). It was also a generous amount. It came with sliced potatoes. The steak and potatoes came with a rich, brown sauce to drizzle over the steak. So, so, so good. Between the chicken stew sauce/gravy and the brown sauce, there were so many delicious flavors around. Last entree was the sweetbreads, so tender, perfectly prepared, very delicate. MUST SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT. If you are a chocolate lover, the chocolate financier (cake) was so rich (think ganache) but not overly sweet. Chocolate lovers will be transported. As it was during a blistering heatwave through parts of Europe, I went with the meringue. Light, airy, crispy with the sweetest strawberries and raspberries. I'm not the biggest fans of raspberries but these seem to have sugar filled in the center (it didn't, but that sweetness was so perfect). then there is the marshmellow/praline/ice cream dish, which I have no clue what the name is. We saw it coming out of the kitchen and knew we had to have it. GET IT, again, this is if you want something other than chocolate. If you love chocolate and can enjoy a rich dessert after a spectacular meal, the chocolate cake is out of this world. the one thing is that the menu only has the plat/entree. For drinks/dessert, the waiter reads it off to you from memory. The challenge with this is you don't know the prices until the bill comes.

The service was lovely, the large banquet style room was beautiful and the food was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic meal in Lyon, you will not be disappointed.

Le Bistrot de Lyon - Was in the table for literally 3 min. I am the only one who got an olive. A single olive.

Instead of going to any of the restaurants I painstakingly researched before coming to Lyon, our…read moretravel buddies decided to ask our hotel to make reservations for us. This is what led us to Le Bistrot de Lyon and it's incredibly bad food and service. We were sat by a very nice woman and there seemed to be good potential. I was wrong. Service here is abysmal, even among French standards. We ended up just getting up and taking silverware from other tables and water that was staged on the bar for servers to take to tables. The place is decorated well with interesting décor and furnishings. It's very old world French bistro and that's pretty cute. I wasn't very hungry so I just ordered a salad but was pressured by the server that it wouldn't be enough food. Maybe if they hadn't removed the olives they placed on the table literally 3 min before (and I had 1 olive), I wouldn't need extra food. I'm a grown adult and know how to eat but I succumbed and ordered the white asparagus soup to go with my goat cheese salad. It wasn't a salad btw, it was a wheel of goat cheese sitting on inedible leeks with a few pieces of diced tomato and mache. Luckily the croutons that came with the soup paired well with the goat cheese because they forgot to give us bread until the last couple minutes of eating. The asparagus soup was disgusting. Terrible texture. Absolutely zero flavor. I added so much salt and it still tasted of nothing except for the rancid nuts/seeds on top. She also told me it was going to be a cold soup. It was hot. Another glaringly gross item we got was the tartare. I've never had such a bad tartare in my life. And it was hard to eat without bread but like I said before, they only brought it when we were about to complain. I would absolutely not recommend coming to this place.

I chose the veal shank and the chocolate brownie. The salad never came so we had to ask for it. It could be that they misunderstood because I didn't actually ask for the salad because I thought it was included and all I had to do was select the entree and dessert because there were options under those categories. Either way, the meal was just ok. I have to agree with the other reviewers, it was not flavorful, in fact I know I didn't finish anything on my plate and don't really recall the meal. Service was just ok too.
