I dropped off my taxes to be done and was waiting for a phone call. I called to check the status of my return and I got sarcasm and attitude. She put me on hold, or so she thought and was swearing about me and "losing her mind". Once she realized I wasn't on hold, she hung up on me. I called back and I was told if I didnt like what she was saying I could come pick up my stuff and hung up on me again. I did nothing to provoke this and did not deserve to be treated like this. I then called and asked if Jacqui Wagner could please call me and she never responded. She obviously doesn't care the way her employees treat their clients! Jacqui does have a nice person answering phones and questions. I feel sorry for her! If you want to be treated with some common decency, I would not go this office!

I preface my review by saying I'm sure Lafata is the cat's meow when it comes to helping folks file…read moretaxes and get whatever refunds are coming to them (or minimize what's owed). My particular review is for another matter that I was requested to get advise from a tax specialist. Now that the "fun" part is done with the purchase of D and I's new home, part of my new fun is selling my existing home. To do so there are various fixes that need to be done to make it market ready. I don't have a lot of extra cash but hoped to sell some shares from a Roth I've been contributing to for well over a decade to help pay some of those costs. My mutual fund company is being extra cautious in selling the shares I requested. In a nutshell I can take back money I've contributed (assuming I've contributed for at least 5 years) but not money that was earned. On that end they sent me a list of all my transactions over the decade or so that I've contributed and suggested I talk to a tax specialist and seek their opinion as far as what I can sell. That's where Lafata comes in. I figured I would likely need a tax service in 2017 to help me file both a non-resident Illinois tax form (since for the time being I will continue to work at my company in IL) and a part-year resident Indiana tax form, so why not try to establish a relationship with a specialist now. I called them on the 12th and the receptionist was polite and transferred me to a tax specialist. But the tax specialist was confused on what and why I needed their help. I explained the best I could and finally he asked for my phone number and said he would call back later in the evening since he was currently busy with other customers. That's totally understandable since it is "tax season" now. But as of the 18th no call. The least he could've done was schedule an appointment for me to come over so I could show and explain my situation more clearly. I contacted another tax service and they were just as confused by my request but they did schedule a time for me to stop by and present my information. I have doubts about the other service as well but will reserve judgment for after my appointment.

ADAMCZYK AND FRANCE CPA (A&F) sent my tax return to a wrong person. Twice!…read more Here is how it happened the first time: I have asked them to email my tax return (I can hardly think of anyone who does not have an electronic copy of their tax return nowadays). So, I emailed them with the request, and they said they would do it. I specifically established the email communication because I wanted to make sure they have my correct email address. Somehow, instead of simply replying to my email, they typed it anew (and probably ignored the pre-filled pop-up their email agent or browser gave them), made a typo in the email address, and sent it to a wrong person. The email did not bounce because the email they used was an actual email address (with a live person reading it probably). The PDF file did not have a password (they did not protect it in any way), and anyone could read it. I was pretty upset about it, and expressed this to A&F. I expected that they would not charge for that return, but they did. I wanted to be a nice person and paid their bill. Moreover, I remained their customer, hoping such mistakes will not repeat in the future; A&F agreed that they would put the PDF of my return on a flash drive that I would mail to them with my documents. One would expect this is a pretty low-risk scenario and not such mistake should happen again, except they managed to send it to the wrong person again. How could it happen? Here is how it happened the second time. I have moved to another state (California) at the end of last year and mailed all my documents from my new home. I told them explicitly that I was in California. Before my final move to CA, I was using a temporary address (in Florida), and my W2's were sent there. However, nowhere in my communication have I asked them to send my documents to Florida. The next thing I know: my Florida relative told me that my tax documents were sent to FL. A&F mailed the return to that temporary address, not my current. California address. Because I have never instructed them to mail my return to FL, I have no idea what was guiding their decision. And, they already cashed my check for doing yet another poor job. Needless to say, I am no longer their client. I am highly concerned with the quality of services of this company. Information security is as important as the accuracy of the reports they prepare. I know that they submit the tax reports electronically; therefore they must have PDF copies of all returns (and hence their inability to provide them in a secure way is puzzling to me). If they keep PDF's on their computers, what is the guarantee that they will not compromise them with other customers? Clearly, the security of information is not on the top of their priority: in electronic communications or in those via snail mail. They may be competent in tax return preparation, and they may be cheap, but do you want to risk the security of your information by going with them?
