As i said, friendly staff, the nicest I've met in any hotel to be honest. Its just a pity they are working in such an old hotel. Upon entering, you think, "Yes, this is a quality hotel". That ends when you get to your room. While the bed is comfortable, trying to get any sleep is quite difficult. The walls are paper thin. I could hear the people in the room across the hall opening a crisp bag!!! And if some one burnt the toast in the restaurant at breakfast, it sets off all the fire alarms in the hotel!! Not the way i like to be woken!! I can say i wont be staying here again. But thats not because i hated it, the staff made it enjoyable. WIFI is free but works at a snails pace, if at all sometimes. I stayed here because i got a cheap offer on Groupon. Other than that, there are cheaper places nearby that are far nicer. Also, the food is not cheap, a 3 star hotel charging 5 star prices. €29 for 2 chicken sandwiches and 2 cups of tea. A bit much!! Needs a serious refurbishment and fast!

It has the added bonus of a spa and pool area. It is almost next door the historic and famous Bantry House. As a previous reviewer has said, the staff are the makings of this hotel and they certainly are charming, friendly, helpful and just so lovely with their local accents and friendliness. In fact, you are made to feel almost at home the minute you check in. We arrived very early at 11.00 am and couldn't believe it when they said that they actually had a room ready for us if we wished to check in and this was despite the hotel being fully booked the previous night. On the downside, the place is so shabby, oldfashioned and rather grubby, that it needs a major makeover and modernisation to make it more presentable and comfortable. Bedroom was very ordinary but very clean as was the bathroom. Wifi is free but pathetically slow. The bar area needs serious looking at - everytime the door opens, a breeze blows through the place as it seems to be opposite the main entrance. Then there's a room right beside the main bar, that's set up more like cafe style with tables and chairs, and absolutely no atmosphere whatever or even comfort! There is a separate bar with a separate outside called Hannie Murphy's which seems to cater for musical type shows and step dancing etc., but not suitable if you want a quiet drink! Food was excellent, we enjoyed a really good dinner, with a fairly good choice of courses, and a top class breakfast, full Irish of course, served with delicious brown bread and an ample supply of same. Staff in the restaurant were, once again, so lovely and highly efficient, no sooner were you seated and they were there taking your order and bringing fresh pots of tea or coffee etc! Highest marks to all the staff but it would be wonderful to see the place being updated and refurbished. I understand the Hotel is in new ownership now for the past few weeks, so maybe this will happen very soon. A wonderful, but fairly ordinary hotel in a superb location - a short drive from the truly amazing Sheep's Head peninsula in West Cork.
