Plan some time to look at the scenery before eating. The restaurant itself is in an older building and nicely decorated. I visited as part of a large group, so we had a reserved room upstairs and ordered our dishes in advance. I also have no idea how much it cost, but I am guessing it was not cheap because the service was good and the waiters were dressed in black tie. There could have been better organization about who had ordered each dish and where that person was sitting, so that the staff did not have to ask about each dish (especially as many people did not remember what they had requested). That said, the staff was good in dealing with the unplanned. I had opted not to have a starter because both choices were things I cannot eat (and I felt it would do me no harm to skip a course), but after I had waved away both options a waiter asked about it and the person sitting next to me explained my dietary restrictions. A starter that I could eat appeared shortly thereafter. So although the menu for our group was limited to two choices for appetizers and desserts, and three choices for the main course, the kitchen was adaptable. As you would expect, the menu leans toward seafood and fish options. Everyone was served champagne as we sat down, white wine with the appetizer, and the option of red wine with dinner, plus tea or coffee at the end of the meal. There were hors d'œuvres of cheese sticks and cheese puffs with ham, bread rolls with butter, and an amuse-bouche of beet and crème fraîche. My appetizer had several components: jamón serrano, vegetables on a piece of bread with olive tappenade, and a third item which I've forgotten. My main dish was duck in a red wine reduction. For dessert I received a selection of pastries (which I had planned to skip) which consisted of ice cream, macroon with buttercream and fresh raspberries, chocolate mousse, mille-feuille, and chocolate cake. Once we had finished as much of this as possible, we were brought additional sweets, with one plate for every four or five people. This had a chocolate macroon, a macaroon, two soft meringues, something with chocolate and nuts, and a tuile. I quite liked the duck, and the butter which accompanied the rolls was delicious. The dessert was also tasty, in particular the ice cream.

When it comes to hand-scooped, I always get Kinder (your childhood Kinder maxi bars have been gloriously reincarnated in ice cream form) and apricot. The latter still blows my mind with its tangy, holistic recreation of eating a ripe, freshly-chilled apricot. As for the soft-swirled flavors, I typically stick with classics like vanilla, chocolate, or pistachio. **Don't forget you have to pay first at the little white stand off to the side of the actual ice cream cases. And keep your proof of purchase; they'll ask for it before scooping your ice cream.** Before paying, choose your vehicle (cup or cone, also available in chocolate & chocolate and nut coated varieties), number of scoops, and additional toppings or sauces. ALWAYS ALWAYS ask for the fluffy sweet mousse that is their fresh chantilly cream. Most of the time their registers allow either cash or credit card, but I'd bring cash just in case. Igloo is only consistently open in the summer, so their employees are usually pretty young. Most of the time, the service is fine (they'll definitely remake your ice cream if they mess up). Only rarely have I found myself face to face with someone who was very silently, and very obviously, resenting me for being on vacation.

Summary: Modern french cuisine for old people. Much…read morepotential, but not perfect. I love that the chef prepares a daily menu based on what can be found at the market each day, including an appetizer, a fish or meat main course, and dessert. Pick 2 for 15€, or all 3 for 19.90€. They also offer several a la carte options, but it seems everybody gets the menu of the day. The decor is modern and whimsical, I especially liked the glass floor with the beach diorama below. The one waitress working the room was attentive and eager to please, although not fluent in English. Lucky for us, our French is okay, and our menu reading skills are top notch. Today's menu: Amuse bouche: sliced salami, smoked salmon mouse on a thin crust, and ham and melted cheese between toasts. Not especially daring nor avant garde, but tasty enough--a good indicator of the meal to come. Appetizer: herbed chèvre layered between apple slices and a side of arugula salad. Gorgeous presentation. The plate was drizzled with a lovely basil pesto as well as aged balsamic, and the cheese had surprising curry and cumin flavor on top. I'm not usually one to complain about too much cheese (ever) but the ratio was off on this dish, even if the goat cheese was superb, the quantity overwhelmed the apple slices. Main course: Wifey had the duo of fish (salmon and whitefish) in a beurre blanc sauce. The fish was cooked PERFECTLY, although a little over salted. It came with ribbons of cooked carrot and zucchini, as well as a spinach soufflé that I thought was lovely but she didn't care for. I had the lamb stew, which I liked, but wifey found off somehow. It came with green beans that were past overlooked, and mashed potatoes that were lumpy and lukewarm, despite the hot plate. It also came with a quenelle of finely chopped mushrooms that were delicious. Dessert: chocolate 4 ways: ice cream, macaron, flour-less cake, and mousse. The ice cream and macaron were fine, but the mousse seized up and was grainy beyond acceptable. The cake didn't taste much like chocolate, compared to everything else on the plate it was forgettable. I'm pretty sure we were the only people there under 60, so maybe the overcooked veggies and unadventurous food is cooking to their core audience. I was hoping for more, maybe my expectations were high after reading all the 5 star reviews. The bill for two came out to 70€ including drinks and tip.
