We got there at 7pm and I'm glad we had the early reservation because it was a 3-hour dining extravaganza. Service is 5 stars! Absolutely top notch. We don't speak French and had absolutely no problem here. Notes.... 1) there is no menu 2) they can and do accomodate preferences and allergies... Love this since I'm lactose intolerant. 3) an open mind and an adventurous eater is ideal 4) be ready for an epicurean adventure 5) the chef is a creative food genius We opted for the 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing. It's a great deal for this high end dinner.... Total was 227 Euros for 2 people. Everything we had was good including the wine. But some were hits while others were... Hmm... "It's beautiful, but not my favorite". My favorite was the ravioli! It was non-dairy and seriously the best ravioli ever! The one thing that I found frustrating was everything was "blind". Meaning the food and wine were not described until AFTER you consumed it. Apparently, you are supposed to be good at guessing what you are consuming. After the first 2 courses, I was over it. I wanted to know what everything was before I started to eat/drink. But I played along to horrible results on my part since I got all the wines wrong and most of the sauces and seasonings. Oh well. Dinner options are hit or miss here but Akashi stands out as a cut above the rest. We recently dined here on a quiet Wednesday summer night. The ambiance is serene, clean, and inviting. The service was EXCELLENT. She was sweet, helpful, and very polite. The menu is simple: 2 types of tasting menus (54 euro versus 68 euro). Both VERY affordable, especially given the prices we typically pay in San Francisco. We opted for the larger menu. The menu is in French but our host was gracious enough to translate it in English for us. Again, heavenly service. The larger menu was as follows: - several small appetizers including a tomato type soup, mackerel toast, smoked salmon puff - shrimp and sweetbreads: AMAZING, Surprising pair. Perfection. - swordfish and peppers: light and airy, the swordfish was incredibly moist and delicate. - pigeon stuffed with foie gras: the gaminess of the pigeon was subdued by the foie gras. Fatty richness but overall very balanced - melon soft moist cake with chocolate bits and airy puffs: WOWW. Extremely delicate and soft, not overly sweet which I prefer. We did the wine pairings as well and they were matched perfectly. We cannot believe this place exists in Bordeaux. It's refined without being pretentious; very approachable! If you're visiting the area and need an amazing dinner place that serves exceptional dishes, please consider Akashi. We are sad we didn't find this place sooner.

We had the Takoyaki for entree - a beautiful ball-shaped snack filled with octupus. As the main course, I highly recommend the Chicken Okonomiyaki (however the vegetarian option is equally as good!) - a savoury pancake-style dish with amazing ingredients and sauce. For drinks you can have the traditional yet challenging to open Japanese lemonade or the amazing bubble tea with an immense amount of flavours. I was very generously given a free passion fruit/tapioca bubble tea! Definitely worth paying a visit!

The miso ramen was almost passable but the calamari yakisoba was laughably bad. A poor substitute for what is normally a tasty dish. The sauce is sweet and cloying and not nice tasting. Dépensez votre argent ailleurs! La soupe au ramen n'a pas de goût et le yakisoba a un goût bizarre (sucré, trop de sauce de soja). Pas bon!
