Would give 0 stars if I could. Last Friday October 17th I brought in my 9 year old pug for routine comprehensive exam. I dropped him off at 10 am and 10 minutes later the service desk called me and asked me if I would like to do the dental cleaning as well. I said yes go head. (the worst mistake i've ever made in my life). They called me at 2 pm and said everything went great results are good. Then at 4PM I get a frantic phone call telling me to come as fast as I can. I want answers. They have still not given me any answers to how my dog just suddenly dies when he was fine. They told me when he was coming off Anesthesia his heart rate suddenly started dropping and they gave him shots of Epinephrin and something else to no avail. I want an investigation I am contacting a Lawyer to take this to court if need be. My pug was FINE when i dropped him off that morning. Some neglect or something you guys did that murdered him. read more

Went 12/24 with cat for one tooth issue. Said suspected stomatitis. Went to another vet, had tooth pulled that I came in for and said cat had some of the cleanest teeth and didn't even need a dental! Said no signs of that they said, which is what I thought!!! Never going back! read more

HORRIBLE! DO NOT DO IT! THEY SUCKER YOU INTO A WELLNESS PLAN. It is Nearly impossible to cancel even though they tell you that you can cancel within 2 days and make it sound easy, it's not at all. I ended up paying $400 for an office visit blood work an antibiotic and shampoo. I had a free office visit coupon and they told me I couldn't be used since I canceled the wellness plan. The nurse And doctor were very nice, but you could tell. They only want to sell you the wellness plan that is their main goal. read more

I had to take my cat here for emergency care because my regular vet doesn't have weekend hours. My cat's spay incision was wide open and infected. Dropped my cat off at 9 am, did not hear from anyone until 2:30 pm. Was told they couldn't staple the wound closed bc the infection needed to drain. They prescribed my cat a pain medicine and an antibiotic which cost $80. When I picked up my cat they told me they hadn't given her either medicine yet, she just sat there in pain for five hours. I took her to my regular vet today, Monday. They stapled her incision immediately, gave her a dose of pain meds and told me they sell the exact same medicine for less than half what Banfield charged me. My vet also said it's unheard of to not close up an open wound like that. My cat suffered unnecessarily and I got price gouged by this place as well. Very dissatisfied and will never return. read more

Okay pet owners............my little Bentley who is 14, old for a toy poodle, has been the best little man you could ask for BUT has geriatric problems, READ THIS THROUGH IF YOU ARE GOING TO PETSMART/BANFIELD!!!!! He has had a recent emergency vet out of town visit for shoulder/joint either dislocation or injury ($450), he has a constant cough, he has both hip joint arthritis and at times falls down limps etc., his penis decides to enjoy the sunshine for days on end, he pulls out his own fur in the spring, summer and fall causing scabs, incessantly licks his paws, has cataracts, is almost completely deaf, has dementia - literally will forget why he is outside to go to the bathroom and just stare off into space, has accidents on the rugs but this morning an accident in the bed. Unless he was severely in pain and medication didn't fix it OR incontinance was starting to become a problem. This morning we made the painful decision to have him put to sleep and had the sadness that comes with that decision of losing a family member. My son, took him to PetSmart upon recommendation of a friend as being very accommodating and sympathetic through this process. As we are mourning, the vet calls me to say that she could not sleep at night if she were to put him to sleep because there was not enough reason to do so. She began grilling me about what we had done and what his issues were etc. and basically called me inhumane for wanting to put him to sleep!!!!! I explained that I was an office nurse for 10 years and that I was well versed in his issues. The expense and maintenance was more than we could do and he was in pain if not. She sarcastically told me that it was treatable and I should have to get the medications. I asked who would pay for them and take care of him because he can't be left alone a majority of the time????? Surprisingly, I only said one profane word that starts with a B and ends with it......... I am not only mortified that our family has to go through this, but becoming more LIVID by the minutes that anyone would do such a thing. We now have to bring him back home, make that painful decision again or wait until tomorrow for another vet........... Besides complaining on a YELP review, what would ya'll recommend? I just recently brought in my pets for an exam and the service they got was outstanding. I will be bringing them back for sure. The doctor did a very well job of explaining to me what she did, and what is going on with my pets. I definitely recommend coming to this location. They are very friendly over the phone and in person. My cats do not like strangers but these employees took care of them and made them safe/comfortable. read more

I've been going to Banfield in Monroe, NC for several months now. I have 3 cats, all under 1 year old. My experiences with Banfield so far have been great -- the staff know my pets and show real concern for their care. As a new pet mom, I brought in my second cat (a delicate soul -- he has had issues with coughing/sneezing, urinating outside his box, not eating due to an infection) and I was able to bring him for care, often times without an established appointment. I plan to continue taking my pets here after their first year. I know it seems pretty "corporate" with the office being inside a Petsmart, but the staff really does not make it feel that way. We took our cat RED to the Monroe NC office March 21st. Our cat had been refusing to drink and eat and was acting sick, she had vomited and I felt that she was probably becoming dehydrated. She was our favorite cat of all time, so we felt it was urgent to get her to the vet on a Sunday morning, otherwise we would have waited until a Monday. After about 4 attempts the girl finally talked us into taking the wellness plan as she felt the doctor would want to run all those test. I feared my cat was severely ill and questioned it she would live to use the plan. The Vet came out and reviewed her blood test results and noted only the blood sugar was a little high, probably from stress of being at vet, and said her blood looked good and she seemed to be in good health. She also stated that the cat was able to stand and was purring so she wondered why we were concerned. We told her she was acting sick and not acting like herself. I didn't feel that she thought the cat was very sick. She said she could give her an antibiotic shot and some fluids since I thought she was dehydrated. We took the cat home feeling that she would get better. The cat continued to act sick even though I was giving her fluid with a dropper. My cat died the following night and we are so very upset. I feel like if I had taken her to a different pet hospital she might still be alive. To make matters worse we were stuck with this un-needed plan and this high bill. We felt overly pressured to get the wellness plan and that pressuring us to buy the plan was more important than making sure our cat was well . We are so upset that we thought we were doing the right thing by taking her to the vet, and feel that her sickness was not handled correctly and now we are left with this big bill and have lost our most beloved cat. She use to run greet us at the driveway like a dog, and then cut to go into the woods like she was playing a game. It is now almost unbearable to come down the driveway and not see her waiting. I just wanted you to know we thought the vet should have noticed that the cat was dying. I feel like they downplayed her being sick so they could sell us the plan. We went back to Banfield to cancel out plan and they said we had to call the number to cancel the plan, they didn't even seem to care our cat had died. We still had to pay a large bill. I feel that since I had a coupon for the first visit free we should not have had to pay that amount. When we cancelled they refused to reimburse us for the coupon amount. I have to tell you, our first visit to Banfield was extremely disappointing. I feel like they were more concerned with convincing us our cat was fine so we would buy the plan than they were with helping our beloved Red. I think we should AT LEAST be reimbursed for the amount of the coupon considering our cat's illness was not taken seriously. We would not have taken our cat to a pet hospital on a Sunday morning and paid $461.00 if we felt she was not that sick. I will NEVER take a sick animal to this place again. A pet owner should never have to feel the pain we have felt over this. I feel like it was a horrible mistake for us to take our sick cat there and she may have lived if we had taken her to another vet. read more

take my two dogs, a puppy and a 2 yr Dachshund mix to the Banfield in Monroe, NC. I am glad I decided to take my pets there. On the first visit the vet tested the dachshund and found she had heartworms. She told us of the options to do outpatient or inpatient procedures. We don't have much money, so we chose outpatient. They put her on the special wellness plan which is 40 a month. The first treatment visit was 90 dollars to put her on the plan. The most expensive visit was the one where they ran tests to make sure she could withstand the heartworm treatment. That was over 300 dollars. After that the treatment visits went significantly down, from 100 to nothing. We chose the outpatient option and it saved a lot of money. Our puppy Caillou came down with parvo. The Dr. Borrell was very patient and realistic about the illness. She said we could treat her at home but she would require constant care. She gave us anti nausea pills and an antibiotic. They added in 4 days of IV fluids and the price was a little over a 100 dollars. I was surprised. Every day for four days a tech would come out in the blazing sun (it was 100 degrees on those days), and give Caillou a subcutaneous IV so she would have more fluids. They gave us a script for 1 can of the special dog food for intestinal problems. We bought one can ( it was about 2.50), she didn't like it so we didn't buy anymore. Overall, Caillou's care came to less than 250 dollars. After that we were able to put her on the wellness plan and that cost 70 dollars for one month and enrollment. She is going through her shots now, and we haven't had to pay a dime. I am satisfied because they have been so gentle and caring with my pets. When they are sick a tech calls to see how they are doing. The place is clean. The wait is never long. I have no problem with dropping off my pet. They call me first if the bill is going to be higher than I expected. The reason I left off a star is because no place is perfect. read more

My mom's Pom has been misdiagnosed 4 times for the same thing at this Banfield. He has had some sort of an ear infection for months and after 4 visits and 6 different medications, it still was not cleared up. She took him to another vet and they diagnosed him correctly the first time and his infection is cleared in one ear and he has 1 more week of drops for the other ear. He had been miserable for months until now. He is finally back to his normal happy self. I used to take my Havanese to this Banfield, but no more. The last time I was there the vet was more concerned about my dog getting a haircut rather than his persistent coughing and gagging. Apparently the one inch length of his fur was too long in her eyes. (For the record my dog sees Sara at Dog Gone Beautiful every 6 weeks) But still, isn't that a personal preference? Both of his parents had fur down to the floor, as do most Havanese. I took him in for a cough, not for her unprofessional and unwanted opinion. There used to be a Dr. Johnson there that was great! But the 3 vets they have in there now are uncaring and incompetent. Truly the worse I've ever been to. read more

I wish there were an option for 0 stars. I took my 17 year old on Wednesday to get her shots. She had not had shots for 14 years but I was adopting a new cat and thought I should get them. I was not warned of any side effects or precautions with older cats and vaccinations. Hindsight being 20/20, I have since learned that older cats don't even need vaccines and if they have them, should be given one at a time and 3 weeks apart. My cat was a very high energy, adrenaline rush kitty - completely spastic most of the time! She was barely 5 pounds but a small framed cat so normal for her height/build. Upon entering the exam room, I placed the carrier on the table and the vet tech reached in and jerked her out by the nape of the neck. This is a cat who hides in the corner most of the time and never comes out to meet new people. She hasn't been out of the house in 8 years, only to move to a new house. Had not seen the vet in 14 years as I didn't realize some vets will see them without vaccines. Perfectly healthy cat with absolutely no health problems her entire life. The vet tech then proceeded to put my cat down and hold her down - NOT a good idea with the Taz Devil that she became. She had never bitten or clawed at anyone in her 17 years - but she came out Wednesday! The tech had no idea what to do, threw her on the scales, let her go when she bit her (did not even break the skin), then the cat fell to the floor and landed on her head. She backed into the corner and growled continually, then hissed when I or anyone else got within 2 feet of her. We somehow got her back into the cat carrier so that we could talk. Vet said she could sedate her for her vaccines - I agreed after asking the risks of sedation. AT NO TIME WAS I INFORMED OF THE VACCINE RISKS UNTIL AFTER GETTING THE DISCHARGE PAPERWORK ONCE THE SHOTS WERE ADMINISTERED. We left her there and went home, asked for blood work, physical exam, claw clipping, and some matted hair removal. She had a coat like an Alpaca that would matt once a year - would not let me brush her much and sometimes I got lucky and was able to clip the mattes off. I picked the baby up about 3 hours later - she was still growling. The vet said they could not get her sedated enough to do anything other than vaccines....I said thanks, paid my $150 and left. Returned home with a groggy kitty, to be expected after sedation and the trauma she endured. Moved her box downstairs and let her rest. Noticed Thursday she was having trouble walking, thought it was soreness/stiffness from shots. Friday she was no better and Saturday I was worried. I called the vet, could tell they wanted nothing more to do with her after she scared the staff - how do you work with animals all day and you cannot handle a 4 pound 14 ounce cat? Vet said just to let her rest and that it didn't sound like the vaccines were causing it - to take her in if I thought she should go - well, that's kinda why I called....to ask whether I should bring her in. After the horribly traumatic episode and stress on Wednesday (for her, not me) - I was not taking her back to that vet. My normal vet was closed by then and closed Sunday, so I thought I would wait it out. Sunday she barely walked and I looked up house call vets on the internet - called one to come to the house on Monday. Kitty had not eaten much since Wednesday but was drinking water and peeing in the box. We woke up this morning to find her dead in the closet. Can I blame this on her being 17? Maybe...but she was a completely healthy, spunky, energetic cat prior to the Banfield visit. I believe she would have made it at least 5 more years if I hadn't chosen to vaccinate her. I realize that Rabies is a state mandated vaccine and I "had to" get that one. But the other shot? The 5-in-1? I am writing this so that other adult cat owners KNOW THE RISKS. If you HAVE to give them shots, then do it one at a time and spread it out over the course of several months. i ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO YOUR RESEARCH - I cannot believe as much as I research that I didn't! I should have read and studied prior to going in - BUT I also feel it is a vet's responsibility to inform pet owners of associated risks and I was not notified at all - just that "sedating a cat has the same risks as sedating a human." AT NO TIME were risks associated with vaccines ever mentioned to me. Is it Banfield's fault? Well - perhaps if they had handled my kitten more gently and she had not been dropped on her head...I would not have been so stressed out, neither would the kitty, and we would have been able to sit down, talk, and discuss vaccines. I was never offered individual vaccines in stages. I didn't even know what vaccines were being given. I had no idea what all of these shots and vaccines do to a 17 year old, not even 5 pound kitten when administered as a WHAMMY! My sweet crazy kitty would still be with me tonight instead of the tears down my face. read more

I never had a problem with Banfield. Loved the puppy plan they offered. I had gotten my bby husky 2 yrs ago and because it was my first time buying a dog from a breeder I took him to Banfield immediately in Wilmington, NC. The staff were A1 friendly cared offered advices would definitely go to them. Now, today I went to the Monroe location since I moved and got a new puppy at the last min. I work all day and when I finally was able to leave work early I took him to Banfield. As soon as I got there, a lady got to the front asked what I needed. Told her everything new puppy bought from unknown breeder want to make sure he is checked up. She said do you have an appt I said no she said well we are fully booked make an appt tomorrow. Told her I couldn't come tomorrow I work all day my family have different schedules so I told her it's okay I'll just leave and call in appt. she then said with an attitude you can make the appt now for tomorrow so many times. I told her no I need to check my schedules. I told her I would just go somewhere to get him the dewormers she then said make the appt now or just leave him here and pick him up whenever you're ready. At this point, with her attitude I said no I'm good I will just leave she repeated herself again trying to force me to leave my dog I then said hey can you please just respect my decision and then she backed off and said oh yes yes. We all have bad days and good days at work but customer service is what gives them a job to go to. Never going back, but hey I went to another dog clinic nearby and they attended me right away despite being busy with smiles. read more
