I absolutely looove Bánh mì (Vietnamese sandwiches using French baguettes), so you can imagine my elation when we first came across the Bami House (FYI: I only review the one on Schellingstr.). This narrow and little but colorful eatery shows a lot of potential in offering all various types of Vietnamese cuisine (aside from the almost eponymous highlight) like pho and sticky rice at decent prices. The dining arrangement is unpretentious, set up like a hole-in-a-wall eatery with the classic Asian plastic stools, where one basically squats, and cheap plastic tables.
Of course, on my first time coming here, I had to order the Bánh mì sandwich but with a twist of getting the beef steak and avocado. Not the typical (I think?) Bánh mì but it was absolutely flavorful and delicious. With a homemade passionfruit lemonade, I left the place a happy camper...almost.
It would have been a perfect 5-star experience for me if the service wasn't so bad. The staff are just nonchalant and flippant that it does make one not want to come back again. I would usually take more stars off for this type of horrific service, but I do like their Bánh mì/lemonade combo a looot that I am willing to be more patient and put up with their attitudes (and I also do sympathetize a bit with them given how busy and stuffy this place gets).
Overall, I would admit my review is a little biased due to my love for this European-Asian fusion delight, meaning if you do not care for this sandwich, then you might have a different dining (and most likely worse) experience than mine. read more
