Subjective: Having been to one of the original BAMBU locations in NorCal, expectations were set high, especially having known other franchise locations that didn't pull things off so well in terms of quality. Luckily, any fears I had were set at ease, not just with the first visit, but with multiple visits after for myself and friends. My go to drink is the #1 special- a refreshing combination of fresh coconut, pandan jelly, longan, basil seed, and coconut water- and it has consistently been done well, with all the fruit ingredients tasting fresh, coconut water not too sweet, and pandan jelly with the satisfying squish. My new obsession is the pandan waffle, which can take a while to get since they make it fresh and only have 2 waffle makers, but is oh so worth it to have hot and crunchy. Came here on a Thursday at 2pm. There was no line and the order was taken and made very quickly. I was in and out within 5 minutes. The Thai milk tea was perfectly balanced in terms of flavor. This place did a good job of making it not overly sweet for a standard drink. It was still a bit more than I like. They charge extra for boba which isn't uncommon almost $5 for a small ( around 16 oz) They have a huge selection I'm excited to try the passion fruit in the future. When I would want a refreshing fruity drink. Macaroons we're ordered. Flavors were fine again a huge selection. We had to wait for them to become fully unthawed. Which they instructed us to do so. I'm guessing they have to keep them fresh and without high turnover it's hard to control that to offer them "ready to go" Still it makes me less likely to get them again. And I love getting the pandan waffle, which is always made fresh after you order! This place is more for just a grab-and-go. I was so happy to see a Bambu location open up in West Michigan. I've been here a few times now and have not been disappointed. Thai tea as I've tried in Thailand, was very authentically sweetened but here, they made it without sweeteners ( condensed milk and evaporated milk). It's great! If you like it sweet, I'd made sure to mention it when you put in the order. Try to go for the large size since it's only $1 more. The service was pretty fast and nice too. The sauce would be delicious on plain white rice. For SuperBowl Sunday, my brother ordered the tamarind prawns along with the popcorn chicken. The only legit decent boba milk tea place in Grand Rapids area unfortunately. BAMBU is a chain that started in my hometown San Jose, CA. It was wildly popular for years for their quantity and "quality". I think the che is excellent and filling, a really hearty dessert on its own. But the milk teas/smoothies boba left more to be desired, however in GR, it's a ray of sunshine in this bleak, dark part of town. Nota Bene: -1 Star for having expensive prices like Cali! We're in Michigan :( sad face My first experience on a weekday afternoon was a little bumpy. Friendly service was less than stellar and the waffle iron didn't work for pandan waffle. Second time, went a lot smoother in service :) I was with my housemate and we were craving major boba after pho. I wanted to get 2 drinks- oolong sea salt and Thai, to save for later. My housemate got the mango smoothie. They messed up and made an oolong milk tea but let me keep that one and remade a fresh new one for me. Yay! They ran out of boba due to a rush of people that charged in right after us, and I subbed for grass jelly. Pandan waffle was alright, a bit more oily greasy that I thought but the batter was good. I think I had to high expectations for this place. What made me give this place 3 stars is because their "special" drinks didn't taste that special. I had the avocado drink and it didn't taste good at all.. I had to buy another drink just to wash the bad taste away. The other thing that I didn't like about this place was that when I wanted to but another drink(which costs 4.46), I couldn't because they had a $10 minimum for cards. So I had to buy 2 drinks. I've never heard of a $10 minimum for a drink shop for their card readers. Overall, if you're going to come here, I'd recommend you stick to drinks that you know you'll like. read more

Bambu is my favorite place to go to for dessert in GR. I always get the thai milk tea and durian smoothie. Thai milk tea isn't always consistent with its flavor, but the durian smoothie is the absolute best. The che here is pretty good too. Fingers crossed this place sticks around! read more

Props to Bambu for having quality boba and che! They offer a smaller selection than Bambu locations in California, but I cannot distinguish a difference in taste and quality. Coming from San Jose, CA, it gives me a little reminder of home in every cup. This has been my go-to place since I absolutely love Bo Dam (smashed avocado) drink, and Che Trai Cay (fruit dessert drink). They also have fruit smoothies such as lychee, avocado, jackfruit smoothie etc. Keep in mind that there is limited space for large groups, but the atmosphere is not bad to come chill/catch up with friends. Bambu has since atmosphere, however I didn't find their drinks to be the best. I decided on the Passionfruit Tea, and it really tasted like straight Pineapple juice with seeds. It was horrible!!! My boyfriend decided to get the avocado drink...and it tasted like they smashed a warm avocado into a cup and handed it to us. We were not pleased at all! My boyfriend decided to order another drink, due to not liking the avocado one, and not only did they make him pay for a new drink, but they told him we can't pay with card unless we spend more than $10! How do you expect to sell drinks that are around $4 each, but yet you don't take a card unless you pay $10?!?!?!? It makes no sense for a boba tea place. I would give it a zero star if there was an option. I called at 8:45PM to place a takeout order. I was told that they were closing in 5mins, so be there in 5mins. That was okay cause I was only 5mins away (just took an exit 78 from 131, so it was like 2 blocks away). She said OKAY to my order. Then when I arrived at 8:50PM, exactly 5mins, the door was closed. There was people in there shaking their hands told me to go and that they were closed. They didn't even care to open the door to hear what I wanted to say. I called again to ask to make sure that they didn't do my order. Didn't want it to be a no show. She picked up the phone, didn't listen to what I tried to say and said "we are already closed!" Well, I wouldn't be upset and disappointed if you told me that from the beginning. I know that you were closing soon, and everyone was trying to go home. Trust me when I say boba is my most favorite thing on Earth, and that Bambu is the place I love to get it from. Service is always friendly and quick, and I've never been disappointed by an experience here. Small cafe with kind of awkward seating, but don't let that deter you! Most drinks can easily be made vegan upon request, and the menu even denotes those for you. I'm a huge red bean smoothie fan, and am happy to have found somewhere that uses actual beans! Things here don't taste powdered and sickeningly sweet, in my experience. I would also highly recommend the food! The pandan waffle is absolutely to. die. for. Only complaint is that macarons come frozen, but it's not a deal breaker to me. All-in-all, awesome drinks, tasty bites, and good service. I tried the almond milk tea with sea salt foam today and it wasn't the best but i'm guessing it was because of the foam. My coworker bought the strawberry milk tea and it just tasted like pure strawberry juice with a bitter aftertaste to it. I definitely recommend some of their che though for sure.
