I have done a number of focus groups here and I always leave happy. After all, I get paid to share my opinions about something that I know about. They pay with debit cards that expire in 90 days, but they never last that long in my pocket. I prefer cash payments, but the debit cards work everywhere except if you want to buy something online. There are a number of suites located on the property. They are all smartly and comfortably decorated. Usually, there are granola bars and water to snack on while you wait for the focus group to start. Like most focus groups, someone is watching you from behind a two-way mirror, recording your responses, and you are giving your opinion about the product, or company. Fill out a profile questionnaire so that you can be matched to appropriate focus groups. I can't wait until my next group. read more

I did a study with them a few years back and it was great and I got paid... But the last couple years I feel like I go through many questions of screening just to be told I do not qualify. The thing that bothers me is that all of the questions are so specific, that I feel like they are just collecting the answers they need just from the screening questions. I only give Baltimore Research one star because I cannot give them a zero. I have completed several 'prequalification surveys' in the past and never, not ONCE, have I 'qualified.' As others have implied, it seems as if the 'prequalification survey' is actually the information they are aiming for, and they get it for free this way. I also asked a couple of years ago to be unsubscribed from their list, yet I am still getting emails from them soliciting my participation. If they were a legitimate organization they would know from all of the surveys I have completed in the past if I qualified for their mythical survey, or at the very least they would tell me what the qualification criteria are and I would decide. Nope, I am calling this a scam. read more

This used to be a great company. I have been registered in their database for at least 15 years and participated in about two studies per year. They have a nice facility, paid well in cash (later with a Visa gift card), provided drinks and rice krispy treats. If the study was long they would provide a boxed lunch. They used to call people from their database or e-mail notices that they had a study about "such-n-such" subject. To see if you qualified, they would ask a few questions only about the study subject (10mins max). How times have changed. Baltimore Research now uses their database to call you and waste your time answering survey questions to make money only for Baltimore Research who gives the completed surveys to another company (i.e. Swagbucks, Ipsos i-Say). You get nothing. What is worst is that lie and tell you that they have a study. --That keeps you on the phone. They ask you a few questions about the study but then ask about your household income, family members, education, and race. Information that you gave them when you registered. After spending up 30mins answering questions, once you answer the last question they say "... you don't qualify for the study" or "...the study dates for people with your qualifications is full", or "The study manager will review you answers an get back to you". Baltimore Research is a good thing gone bad. read more

This review is geared toward anyone considering being a participant in a Baltimore Research focus group. I qualified for a study after I went through a 20+ minute survey over the phone. In addition to this call, I also completed an optional homework assignment which took another 20+ minutes to complete. I work in Columbia, but I made plans to drive all the way up to their Towson facility in order to participate in the survey. When I arrived, I was asked to complete more paperwork. The survey was supposed to start at 7pm, but as of 7:05pm myself and three other participants were still in the waiting room. Around 7:05pm, the other three people in the room were called to go into the panel, but I was left behind. It turns out that Baltimore Research sometimes overbooks their panels. Apparently, the client only wanted 3 participants. Not once during the process was I told that I may not be able to participate in the panel. I saw no mention of this on their website, in their email communications, etc. Granted, I was still paid for having shown up on time, but I was still aggravated that I had gone out of my way to come to Towson in rush hour traffic to participate. If you're considering participating in a Baltimore Research panel, consider the amount of time you may spend on the qualification survey/call, a possible homework assignment, driving, paperwork when you arrive, etc. Knowing that you may be turned away, is worth it? Typically I have great experiences coming to this location as it is plenty of parking and right off the exit. However I did have one sour experience that I know next time hoe to protect myself. I did an online Study and was given a user name and password twice with two different links. When I clicked the link it didn't even allow me to log in it took me directly to the study. I completed it and was waiting for payment a month later as directed. No payment. I kept calling and I was told I didn't complete the study there was no record of me doing it and they would not issue payment. The supervisor at Baltimore research, Ms carter didn't have an answer other than I was sol. I chalked it up as a loss and life experience but that's foul how no compensation was offered for my time especially when I have email traffic about the completion of the study. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would! I have wasted a total of three hours carefully and honestly completing their surveys/prequalifying questionnaires. Three times I have been informed that I am not eligible to participate, after all my time and hard work invested; no reason given whatsoever! I feel like so many of the other non-participants and past reviewers for this place - You spend your valuable time providing honest, insightful answers to their extremely detailed and specific questions. I believe that this company gets (and I suspect) uses your information completely free for its own purposes and rejects you over and over, and over again! I am so utterly frustrated and disappointed. Talk about a complete lack of respect and integrity! I would advise anyone to steer clear of Baltimore Research! The word "scam" comes to mind when I think of this place!... HUGE THUMBS DOWN!!! read more
